Liked it!

Well maintained facilities. Great for kids (jump pad, pool, mini golf, playground). Friendly staff and nice little front store for kids purchases. Very clean. Stayed one night for a concert. Liked the size of the grounds (not huge). Mature trees and lawns at each

Small but nice

This is probably one of the nicest KOAs I’ve stayed at. Great privacy walls between the back in sites… it is close to highway, but it’s fine at night

Great experience

The campsite was awesome, really big site for us, almost too much space for a double tent. Staff was super friendly and helpful, and the facilities were well maintained. Only downside was the road noise.

Nice Koa with lots to do

Came for an Airstream convention. They were able to accommodate us in their conference rooms due to rainy weather. Summer would be fun there with lots of activities to do for children.

One of the nicest and friendliest KOAs you'll find!

Although this KOA is closely adjacent to US 50 as it enters the Grand Junction area, it is spacious, super-well-kept, nicely located for access to both Colorado River bridges (29 Rd. and Hwy 50), just a few minutes from charming historic downtown, and extremely close to great Asian food (Dragon Treasure), BBQ (Snooks Bottom), and Mexican food (Azteca). The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the facilities are immaculate. We couldn't be happier with this KOA.

Lots of amenities!

We stayed here in the tent camping spots for two nights. The restrooms were clean and the site had a light over the picnic table which was really nice for setting up in the dark. The highway noise could be a little loud at times, but generally it wasn’t too bad to get a good night sleep.

The Standard

All KOA's should be as nice as Grand Junction, unfortunately we all know that's not the case. Wide fenced lots, with fire pits and picnic tables. Very clean park that shows pride of ownership, they obviously give a crap about their parks image.

I use this location as a ft RVer when doing shopping or vehicle maint in the GJT area. Nice KOA with big shade trees. Big pull- thru for big RVs and nice cabins of several sizes. Tent spots are limited. Showers clean, staff very friendly.

Not the choice for tent campers.

Lots of highway noise makes this one rough for anyone not in an RV or trailer. The road is busy all night long and the campground is right on it. It’s clean, has a small pool, mini golf and playground for the kids, showers and a small store. Staff is friendly.

This was our first KOA experience and we were very pleased. Hosts were friendly, our site was small but well kept. This KOA has a pool, mini golf, dog run, and general store. Facilities were clean and in good shape. Close to the highway, so some noise, but not e Pugh to ruin your time. Best part if this KOA is being close to Colorado National Monument!! One if our favorite places we’ve ever been!

Nice campground by the fairgrounds

Very nice campground! Very clean, with courteous staff. We had a back-in full hookup. Site A8. It came with a patio& a small patch of grass. Sites& roads are gravel& well maintained. Pool was closed for the season. Low lights at night was nice. I hate those mercury vapors! Some road noise, but quiets down at night. We actually heard the neighborhood rooster crow in the morning! We camped at Grand Junction KOA Holiday in a Travel Trailer.

As expected.

Typical KOA. As expected. Close sites. Level ground. Nothing super memorable but I appreciated having a couple dog runs available plus a playground the kids really enjoyed. Plus the grass patches next to each site were a great addition when it could have simply been all gravel like some other grounds we’ve been to.

A good place to rest up and refuel before setting out on your next adventure.

This KOA is exactly what you’d expect for an RV park right off of a state highway: small campsites, close quarters with your neighbors, and a county fairgrounds right next door with loud music and horses whinnying most of the night.

RV sites have water, sewer, and 20/30/50 amp electric hookups. Sites are mostly level gravel. Some have small grassy areas and patios with brick pavers and a fire pit.

The staff are super helpful and friendly. Laundry is in the main building, open 12-9. Don’t wait until the last minute to do your wash, as about half the machines were out of order when we visited and the last load of laundry must be started by 8pm. Propane refills are available on site. Campground is less than 2 miles from City Market grocery store and gas station. Approximately 40 mins from the Colorado National Monument.

Clean & Level camp

The campground is very clean and level. It’s great for us to be able to get on WiFi to work. Hope you want to get up early because the rooster in the distance woke us up early. Lol The fairgrounds is next to us & they have a loud speaker and some sort of horse competition that started at 8 am. There is highway noise also. It was good for us because we wanted to stay close to town. We are in a tent trailer so we hear more noise.

Ranger Review: Primus Essential Stove Set at Grand Junction KOA

Campground Review:

At first arrival, we were intimidated by the fact that the Grand Junction KOA sits adjoining the Mesa County Fairgrounds. But aside from the occasional whiff of horse stalls and a short interlude with music over a loudspeaker, you would not even know it was there, at least on a weekday.

We spent two nights at this KOA in two similar, but unique, capacities. The first night we rented a "rental RV", which sits on a foundation at the campground. This was awesome and we highly recommend reserving the rental RV's if you plan to stay here. There were two bedrooms - a queen and a twin bunk - and a futon in the living room. There was a TV in both the living room and bedroom (much to our kids' delight), and a full kitchen and dinette. It was very clean and comfortable even though it is an older RV unit. Plenty of storage, and outdoor gas grill, a porch, and A/C rounded off our first night's stay, along with some pizza delivery from Dominos!

The second night we stayed in a 2-bedroom Kamping Kabin. We have always stayed in the single room Kabins before, so it was nice to have more space and more privacy, especially since we had our nephew along with us this time. As usual, the cabin was clean and updated. This one also had one TV in the main room with a queen bed, then a second bedroom with two bunk sets. A/C was welcome because it was HOT during our stay. The 2-bedroom Kabin has a huge patio, fenced in lawn area, gas grill, and outdoor table and chairs. It is policy for no cooking inside these cabins, so the gas grill was a special treat.

This KOA is very close to two National Park Sites, Colorado National Monument, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. These have been on our Bucket List for a few years, so it was nice to finally have the chance to spend time in this area. After spending the day exploring, we spent the evenings splashing in the nice pool on site. As with most KOA's, this one also rents the pedal carts and has a game room area, outdoor movie theater with nightly movies, mini-golf, and a playground. Take note that the playground is not well-situated and has a "scary steep slide" according to our kids. Plenty to do right on site for those seeking a calmer day or night at the campground.

Product Review:

For a video summary of the Essential Stove Set, please see our complete YouTube video: https://youtu.be/hJx9FhRn4WQ

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, we get products to test from time to time, so on this trip we took along with us the Primus (www.primus.us) Essential Stove Set in order to have a quick way to make dinner after a long day exploring National Parks. It did not disappoint! We went from hungry family to fully fed in under 30 minutes. Dad and the boys manned the gas grill for hot dogs, and I whipped up our favorite go-to camp meal: Mac-n-cheese! Since we had traveled from the Black Hills all the way to Western Colorado, we were happy to receive such a lightweight, small product to test on the trip. At less than two pounds and under 9" wide and 5" tall, this stove slid right in the back of the car between the cooler and the suitcases!

Lighting the stove was quick and easy, like it had already been lit a hundred times. No lag from air in the lines, and hot immediately upon lighting. I had the water boiling before the boys got one hot dog on the grill! All-in-all, to boil the water, and then the pasta, took about 15 minutes. We like our pasta Al Dente, so for some it may be more like 20 minutes, especially at higher elevations, but I still beat the hot dog crew and everyone was impressed. As for clean-up, it was easy. I simply warmed some more water in the pot, and washed with dish soap and a sponge. This stove is going to be with us on all of our future trips!

A few of the nice perks of the Essential Stove Set:

-Comes with a lid/frying pan/serving plate that is versatile.

-Lightweight (37 oz) and small enough to fit in a backpack for longer trips.

-Uses gas available from most sporting goods and outdoor retailers (including Wal-Mart).

-Instant heat - no waiting for a burner to warm up. Also instant off- if the kids come running through, you can flip it off and the heat stops (just remember the pots will be hot).

Nice KOA - beats paying for a hotel!

We stayed at the Grand Junction KOA when driving cross country from CA to NY a few years back. We drove to Grand Junction CO after a long day of hiking and tubing in Zion National Park - we arrived very late, and without a reservation. Even though it was after hours, we were able to choose a tent site then pay for the night at an iron ranger at the front office.

Our site had a patch of green grass to set our tent up on, as well as a picnic table and fire pit (that we never utilized, we just set up our tent and fell into our sleeping bags). The sites had little log fences separating the spaces.

The GJ KOA had very nice, clean facilities - having a hot shower in a clean locker room was a great way to start the morning. Wifi was available, which is always a plus.

The campground (kampground, haha) is pretty far outside of Grand Junction, and is in an industrial area, so we were initially a little sketched out and hesitant about stopping, since we were two women in their early 20s traveling alone. But once we got inside the campground and saw the layout of the grounds, we felt very safe and secure.

We were glad we decided to stop at the Grand Junction KOA, as it was a nice, clean, and safe place to stop for the night. KOAs are not my go-to type of campground for camping, but they are an easy, safe, and cheap spot to stop for the night if you don’t want to spend money on a hotel.

They Gave My Site Away!

I was passing through Grand Junction on a trip north from Montrose. I called ahead to make sure they accepted tent reservations since their website was not working very quickly. The person on duty in the office said they did and they would hold a space for me with my KOA email I had on file from use at numerous other KOA campgrounds.

I drove up and arrived around the time I had let them know I would be there only to find out not only did they not reserve my space with my email but they didn’t even document I had called earlier in the day. The poor guy who got me that afternoon didn’t know what to do. He looked at the caller ID and saw I had in fact called and just kept apologizing because there wasn’t a spot left at the campground that night.

I called to follow up with management the following day and the customer service itself was terrible. I ended up sending a complaint to KOA corporate about it.

From what I could tell the campground looked decent but unfortunately the incident stopped me from being able to fully appreciate it. And I felt so bad for the guy working that evening because he seemed ill equipped to handle anything of that sort.
