    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Humboldt County Fairgrounds RV Park and Campground offers 66 drive-in sites with water and electric hookups, sanitary dump station, and full restroom facilities. Nearby, Riverwalk RV Park provides spacious sites with water, electric and sewer connections, plus amenities including a heated pool and laundromat. Shoreline RV Park in Eureka features level RV sites with full hookups, accommodating larger motorhomes with big-rig friendly access. Sites are generally well-maintained with concrete or gravel pads, though spacing between units varies by location. Most parks in the area allow pets and provide picnic tables at individual sites. "Full hook ups and walk into town! Super quiet on a Monday with only 3 other RVs there," noted one visitor about the fairgrounds location.

Advance reservations are recommended during summer months and holiday weekends when coastal parks fill quickly. Several RV parks remain open year-round, including Redwood Acres RV Park which offers sanitary dump facilities and 30-amp service. Road access to most parks from Highway 101 is straightforward, though travelers should note that Fernbridge provides the best route to Ferndale for larger RVs rather than more twisting secondary roads. Parks near Eureka offer convenient access to services, while locations along Avenue of the Giants provide more natural settings with some tree cover. Cell service is generally reliable near populated areas but may become spotty in more remote locations. A camper noted, "Access from Fernbridge off of 101 is best as the other roads are very twisty for all but the smallest RVs."

      Humboldt County Fairgrounds

Good place for a few days

Plenty of room for all RV’s large to small. 30 & 50 amp power and water. Clean restrooms, heated and free. Many long term residents. The spots are level, it felt safe enough. Quiet. Close to Ferndale, which is Must See. Access from Fernbridge of of 101 as the other roads are very twisty for all but the smallest RVs. Camp host was great! Short drive into Eureka. Patriot Gas has a car wash for big rigs. Not really a photogenic campground. Very open area surrounded by fields with cows, farms and trees in the distance. Used the RV dump as I left. It’s by far the worst RV dump that I’ve used. It works, but needs a complete rebuild. I suggest requesting a spot with full hookups.

      Humboldt County Fairgrounds

Nothing fancy, but convenient to Ferndale, and quiet

I stayed here twice for a total of eight days. Many long-term Residents give the place a seedy feeling. Ultimately it is safe and secure. And well managed. The bathroom is clean, heated, free showers and the combination is changed weekly. Large grassy area with good spacing between most RVs. I was in the middle of the campground for short term parking. Because of recent rains and some soggy areas I had to overnight campers close to me. 30 amp and 50 amp power and water at each side. The largest downside to this place is the RV dump station inside the fairgrounds. It’s the worst one that I’ve ever used. It needs to be completely rebuilt. No ultimately it did work. Great location to the picturesque town of Ferndale California. Also a convenient location for exploring the Lost Coast area. 12 miles away from Eureka California which has a Costco and Patriot gas station on the south end of town has a car wash that can accommodate RVs.

Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination

      Peaceful and Quiet

Park was mostly empty and very quiet. Plenty of full and partial RV hookups (generators are not allowed) and tent spots. Very clean facilities and well maintained. Friendly staff. Walking distance to the river and has a small enclosed dog run. Excellent WiFi. Weak Verizon and no AT&T service.

      Clam Beach County Park

      Sand Beds

There are 9 sandy campsites with picnic tables and fire rings. There are two permanent vault toilets and a one clean portable are available. There is running water. Large pull through parking spots are convenient for campers/RVs.

Campsites are divided by logs and offer no privacy from each other. There is beach access from the campground. The beach is large with sand dunes, marsh, beach grass, and drift wood. Wooded hills and shrubs surround the campground.

3 stars due to proximity to freeway, you can see and hear vehicles; as well as lack of privacy. Also near a local airport, the campground directly under takeoff path.

Located near many great attractions and not far outside of town. 25 dollars a night makes this a cheap alternative to the Private and State Parks in the area that are often booked up.

Please leave the campsites cleaner than you found them.

      Happy camping!

      Very convenient location!

Less than 30 minutes from the Redwoods and the beach. Walking distance to target and a gas station with diesel. Very well kept yards, bathrooms, showers and laundry. Plus the full hookups are so convenient.

Burlington Campground — Humboldt Redwoods State Park

      Quiet stay in Redwoods

Walking distance to the visitor center and other great hikes. Dog-friendly, clean restrooms/coin showers, and relatively private sites - some more than others. Beautiful surroundings!

      Quiet stay

A mix of full time, seasonal and overnighted. Pull through sites. Shower, laundry room. Free Wi-Fi has a weak signal so if you need a strong signal it won’t be found here. I stayed here through the winter and fell in love with it.

Abalone Campground — Sue-meg State Park

      Best of both worlds

Campsites are in several loops in a lush green forest right next to the ocean. No hookups but pit toilets, trash pickup and water. Fire rings and picnic tables. Clean, beautiful park, sites run the gamut from small to large, including doubles and pull-throughs. Spectacular scenery. Hiking trails in the forest as well as lots of rocky beach. Would def stay again.

      Benbow KOA & Golf Course

      Different but to be expected

Wasn’t impressed by the long term population that seems to be residing there. It was quiet though and over all a decent stay. We spent 4 days there. The WiFi sucked and they put us in the far back. Stay closer to the front if you can in the premium spots. We didn’t know the difference. Non premium is in the way back, no fire pits and spotty WiFi.

    Guide to Ferndale

RV camping near Ferndale, California offers access to the Eel River watershed along the Humboldt County coastline. Winter visitors should prepare for significant rainfall averaging 45 inches annually, while summer camping brings cooler coastal temperatures ranging from 50-65°F. Many campgrounds in this region remain open year-round with varying levels of amenities depending on proximity to major highways and towns.

    What to do

Redwood hiking trails: Within a 30-minute drive of Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination, you can explore multiple state parks featuring ancient trees. "The Avenue of the Giants if you have some extra time. You'll end up right in Myers Flat and see some amazing forests along the way."

River access: Camp near water at Samoa Boat Ramp County Park where you can enjoy both beachfront and water activities. "Remote from town but water 360 degrees. You can hear the ocean while looking at the towns across the water." The park sits about 200 yards from BLM Samoa Sand Dunes, making it convenient for water recreation.

Local attractions: Visit the historic districts near your campground for unique experiences. When staying at Redwood Acres RV Park, you can easily access "Eureka Historic District with many beautifully maintained Victorian Homes. You can Journey through forest, dairy land and Elk country to other beautiful locations like Ferndale and Crescent City."

    What campers like

Quiet environments: Some campers appreciate the peaceful settings available near Ferndale. A visitor to Stafford RV Park noted, "Nice RV park, everything was clean park, bathrooms and showers as well as a good wifi signal." Similarly, at Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin, campers enjoy that it was "Quiet except for the very occasional road noise during the day, extremely quiet at night."

River views: Several campgrounds feature waterfront sites. At Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination, a camper mentioned, "Our site backed up to the Eel river with Giants redwoods everywhere. The grounds were super clean and quiet. Just hung out at the beach the whole time."

Convenience to town: Many campers appreciate locations that balance nature with accessibility to services. A visitor to Humboldt County Fairgrounds RV Park and Campground found "a tranquil spot with ample space, offering lovely views of farmland and sunsets" while still being close enough to attend local events.

    What you should know

Advanced planning: Book early for summer stays or event weekends. A camper at Humboldt County Fairgrounds mentioned, "While traveling to Redwood National Park, I discovered the Kinetic Sculpture Race and the oldest Memorial Day Parade were also taking place. I sought last-minute camping reservations nearby."

Weather considerations: The coastal influence means variable conditions year-round. Sites along Avenue of the Giants generally offer better protection from coastal winds than oceanfront locations.

Variable site quality: Site conditions vary widely between parks. At Samoa Boat Ramp County Park, "This campground is essentially a paved parking lot with numbered stalls" while other campgrounds offer more traditional settings with vegetation between sites.

Bathroom facilities: Restroom quality differs significantly between campgrounds. Some visitors note that at certain locations, "The bathrooms were very dirty too and didn't really work well," while others report "Clean bathrooms and showers thankfully" at different parks.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some campgrounds offer dedicated children's play areas. At Mad River Rapids RV Park, families appreciate the well-maintained grounds, and at Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination, "The playground was a huge hit with our toddler too, as well as river access."

Educational opportunities: Plan visits to nearby nature centers and ranger programs. Several state parks within 30 minutes of campgrounds offer junior ranger activities during summer months.

Safety considerations: Research campground reviews regarding security. Some locations report concerns about nearby areas, while others note, "We felt safe in park" despite surrounding neighborhoods having issues.

    Tips from RVers

Level sites: Most RV parks offer relatively level sites with varying pad materials. At Ancient Redwoods RV Park, "Hookups and amenities were good and clean" though some RVers noted that additional amenities would be welcome.

Hookup availability: Confirm electricity amperage before booking. Some parks advertise electric hookups but have limited amp service. Mad River Rapids offers both 50-amp and 30-amp service, making it suitable for larger rigs with multiple appliances.

Access routes: Larger RVs should plan their approach carefully. Most campgrounds are accessible from Highway 101, but secondary roads can be challenging for bigger rigs.

Seasonal closures: Not all campgrounds operate year-round. Ancient Redwoods RV Park operates from "May 1 - Oct 31" while others remain open throughout the year with reduced services during winter months.
