    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Woodward Reservoir campground accommodates pets at designated sites throughout its shoreline camping areas with fire pits, picnic tables, and water access points. Cole Ranch maintains pet-friendly tent sites under walnut and almond trees, allowing leashed dogs to accompany campers along the riverfront. Both campgrounds provide full hookup options for RV campers with pets, though policies require dogs to remain on leash in public areas. Merced River Resort, Lake Tulloch RV Campground, and Kit Fox RV Park all maintain pet-friendly policies with varying amenities and restrictions. Most campgrounds limit pets to two per site, with some locations providing designated pet waste stations. The restrooms and shower facilities at most locations remain clean and accessible, though several reviews note varying conditions depending on seasonal usage and maintenance schedules.

The Tuolumne River shoreline offers calm water access points where pets can cool off during summer months when temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees. Owners should be aware that poison oak exists on some hiking trails surrounding Cole Ranch and other riverfront properties. Several campgrounds provide communal areas where pets can exercise, though none feature dedicated dog parks with fencing. Campers report the resident hosts at Cole Ranch provide extra amenities for dogs, including replacement toys when pets lose them in the river. Woodward Reservoir's shallow, warm water makes an ideal swimming spot for water-loving dogs, though the lake sometimes develops algae issues during peak summer. Veterinary services can be found within 15-20 minutes of most campgrounds, with the closest emergency services located in Modesto. Sites near highways or train tracks like Merced River Resort experience noise that may disturb sensitive pets.

Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging

      Good Place for Kids

With a pool, petting zoo, a corral where they have a fire and s'mores followed by a movie, this is a great place to camp with the kids.

The showers are free and usually clean although on Saturday evening the campground was full and the bathrooms were dirty and out of TP.

There are tent sites, RV sites and cabins so something for everyone.

There were A LOT of stray cats on the property which kind of drove our dog crazy. But at least the campground is pet friendly.

If you plan to go into Yosemite NP, it's a long drive so plan accordingly. Our family really enjoys Rainbow Pools and Yosemite Pine's proximity to Rainbow Pools is part of why we stay here. The kids can jump and swim there and that's all they really want to do anyway so being close to that is key for us. So many of the places in the park where we used to get in the water do not allow swimming anymore.

      Merced River Resort

      Shady spot

We stayed here for 5 weeks. Quiet park with lots of shady trees, a dog park and kids play area. River access is limited though because of the steep incline. No swimming spots but good fishing areas. Full hookups were much appreciated! The restrooms did not have working showers at the time hopefully that has been fixed.

French Camp RV Park and Golf Course

Quiet, clean and great dog parks!

I believe a lot of the people here are full-time. It’s a super sweet RV resort. It is very well-maintained, nicely landscaped, and they have some great dog parks. I came in after hours and the person managing the campground was kind enough to open up the office and get a space for me.

Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging

      Camping friendly

Not located in the Yosemite Park (we made that mistake). 20-30min drive to Yosemite Park.

      Very cute and quiet spot.

Trails around camp grounds, petting zoo for kids.

Tent, camper/rv, and cottage camping available.

Would recommend if you don’t mind a drive to get to the park.

Hard to get to but has buses to Yosemite

The campground has nice views, but wow, what a scary drive up a curvy mountainous road to get to it. Most of the campground is clay dirt, so it's quite dusty and the RV spots are not paved. They had a pool, but it was filled with rowdy children so we didn't go in. The campground also has a pet wash we wanted to use, but it wasn't working. There is also a random petting zoo, and I felt bad for the animals because it was quite small. Their redeeming factor were the buses to Yosemite. Although it was over an hour each way, we were thankful to have them since we only had our RV.

Stayed in the basic cabins and loved it!

2 adults and 1 kid in the basic cabin over Easter weekend a few years ago. We really enjoyed our stay and the property. Petting zoo animals were adorable. Nice location to Yosemite. Friendly interactions with staff.

    Guide to Ceres

Camping options near Ceres, California range from lakefront sites to riverfront locations within the Central Valley's agricultural landscape. Summer temperatures in this region regularly exceed 100°F from June through September, with mild winter conditions suitable for year-round camping. Most campgrounds in this area sit at elevations between 100-500 feet above sea level, providing access to both valley waterways and nearby foothill terrain.

    What to do

Swimming in Woodward Reservoir: Woodward Reservoir offers shallow, warm water that makes an ideal swimming spot during hot summer months. "Woodward is our family go to place to camp in the summer heat... Water feels good when it's 100+ degrees outside," shares camper Bonnie S. The reservoir provides multiple shore access points with gradually sloping beaches.

Paddling on the Tuolumne River: Explore the calm waters of the Tuolumne River with canoes and kayaks available at some campgrounds. At Cole Ranch, campers appreciate the complimentary watercraft: "They allow you to use their Canoe, paddleboard and kayak with signed waiver of course," notes Eric A. The river current remains gentle enough for beginners through most seasons.

Wildlife viewing: Morning and evening hours offer opportunities to observe local wildlife at Lake Tulloch RV Campground. "By Sunday night, every campsite within sight was vacated so we had a lot of freedom... Deer are fearless & majestic, several 'packs' walked through our campsite all throughout Sunday night," reports Katie K. Bring binoculars for better viewing of waterfowl along shorelines.

    What campers like

Affordable waterfront access: Campers appreciate the reasonable costs at pet-friendly campgrounds near Ceres. "Good prices. And you can bring your dogs," mentions Bonnie S. about Woodward Reservoir. Day-use fees typically range from $5-15 depending on the season, while overnight camping starts around $30-45 for basic sites.

Shade during hot months: The region's intense summer heat makes shade trees particularly valuable. Lake Tulloch RV Campground offers "sites on the lake with shade provided over the tables," according to Melissa B., while Cole Ranch provides camping "underneath the walnut and almond trees," making summer camping more comfortable.

Quieter weekday experiences: Many campers note the difference between weekend crowds and weekday tranquility. "The park is packed during the summer months on the weekends but during the off season it is a great time to go during the week when children are in school," advises Sharon A. about Woodward Reservoir, allowing for a more peaceful experience with pets.

    What you should know

Seasonal water quality concerns: Water conditions can change throughout summer months. At Woodward Reservoir, campers should check ahead as "the lake sometimes develops algae issues during peak summer," especially in late August when water levels drop. Call ahead to confirm swimming conditions.

Varying bathroom facilities: Restroom quality varies significantly between campgrounds. At Lake Tulloch RV Campground, Katie K. notes, "by the end of Sunday there was no more toilet paper... definitely bring some just in case! Master that sumo squat to hover over that thing!" Many campgrounds have limited maintenance schedules.

Site differences within campgrounds: Research specific site numbers before booking. "We were lucky to have a spot at the dead center of the top of the mountain looking out at the lake (site 13) with a big shade tree," shares Katie K. about Lake Tulloch. Sites near water typically fill first, especially for summer weekends.

    Tips for camping with families

Book waterfront sites early: The most desirable family-friendly locations book quickly. At Woodward Reservoir, "if you want hook ups and waterfront you have to make reservations on T-Island or Hackleberry Flats. Otherwise it is first come first serve for the other areas of the lake," advises Mary K.

Pack for temperature fluctuations: Despite daytime heat, evenings can cool significantly. "I always need to take extra blankets and fire wood. It tends to get chilly and windy occasionally," warns Javier J. about Woodward Reservoir. This temperature swing can affect pets' comfort as well.

Check for family amenities: Some campgrounds offer kid-friendly features. Lake Tulloch camper Elisabeth mentions, "The kids had fun playing at the playground, jet skiing, and making sand castles at the beach," making it suitable for families with multiple age groups and pets.

    Tips from RVers

Reserve utility hookups ahead: Full hookup sites at pet-friendly campgrounds fill quickly during summer months. At Merced River Resort, one camper shares, "We stayed here for 5 weeks. Quiet park with lots of shady trees, a dog park and kids play area... Full hookups were much appreciated!" Call ahead to verify hookup availability.

Consider noise factors: Highway and train noise affects some locations more than others. "Loud with highway noise, factory next door and train goes through many times a night," warns Eric G. about Merced River Resort. These factors can disturb both campers and pets, especially during overnight hours.

Verify exact site conditions: RV sites vary considerably in size and surface. At Kit Fox RV Park, Sarah M. notes, "I stayed here for one night in a 22' RV at one of the back-in sites for the shorter term stays... Spot comes with WiFi code, but there's plenty of cell service too." Many parks accommodate pets but have specific designated areas for dog walking.
