Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Capay, CA

The Parkway RV Resort & Campground provides a spacious dog run that reviewers consistently praise for cleanliness. This full-hookup campground offers both tent and RV camping with designated pet-friendly sites throughout the property. At Rolling Hills Casino Truck Lot, pets are welcomed with level 75-foot pull-through sites that accommodate large rigs with animals. Both locations enforce standard leash requirements outside of designated dog areas. Woodson Bridge Mobile Home & RV Park allows pets at its riverside location, though some reviews note varying management quality regarding pet policies. The grassy areas between sites at The Parkway give dogs room to stretch out while staying close to their owners. Campers browse The Dyrt when exploring the best sites near Capay, California.

Olive Pit Dispersed Lot offers free camping for travelers with dogs near Corning, requiring pet owners to pack out waste with no on-site disposal facilities available. Most campgrounds in the area provide water access, with Woodson Bridge featuring a seasonal fishing dock and small beach where dogs can cool off during hot summer months. Heritage RV Park and Almond Tree RV Park both enforce strict pet policies while providing amenities for campers with animals. The nearby well-stocked general store with deli service supplies pet necessities forgotten during packing. During peak summer heat, early morning and evening dog walks are recommended as gravel sites can become extremely hot and uncomfortable for pet paws throughout the afternoon.

    Oroville-Feather Falls Casino KOA

    Really nice spot.

Right behind a casino, but a really nice park. Excellent bathrooms and showers. A pool area and dog park. Good Wi-Fi and amenities. A little pricier than what I am used to but it was a really nice place to stay the night. Also awesome treat bad for the dog provided at check in, a really nice touch.

The Parkway RV Resort & Campground

Great spot for an overnight stay

This place was a very nice spot for any overnight stay on the way up to Oregon. The woman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. There is great shade in our site (A6) and a nice table. Kudos for the large dog park, now if I can only solve for the a*holes who can't be bothered to pick up after their dogs at every dog park I've ever visited. Don't expect a ton of privacy here and the sites are all gravel and/or dirt except for strips of grass in between neighbors. With all that said we will definitely use this as an overnight stop again.

    Sacramento River RV Park

    Friendly Campground

This has been one of the loveliest RV parks we’ve stayed at. We stayed here for almost 3 months, as many others do. Most of the residents are contract workers staying short- to long-term, but the park is also friendly for weekend and overnight stays with select spots available.

I give this place 5 stars because of the respectfulness of both the residents and the staff, along with how well maintained everything is. It’s more campground-sized, but the amenities are kept up very well. The bathrooms were cleaned regularly, the laundry room was nice, and they also have private shower rooms.

The pool was not operating while we were here, but they were actively working on getting it ready for the summer. Since we have a child, we appreciated the playground area and how family-friendly the park felt. The other kids staying here could safely play together and enjoy the space.

There’s also a central activities room with a small gym area, kitchen, and common hangout space, which was nice to have. The fenced dog park was another huge plus and gave our dog room to run around.

The setting by the river is beautiful, there’s good shade throughout the park, and the lots are laid out nicely for pulling in and parking. You can tell by the type of crowd here that it’s a very safe and respectful place with very little trouble.

The location is also convenient — just one exit off Interstate 5 near Costco.

We previously stayed at another RV park in central Redding near the river that cost nearly the same monthly rate, but we genuinely enjoyed spending time at this park, even during the day.

One significant downside is the noise. Interstate 5 to the east is loud, and the wood mill to the west creates constant background noise as well. The silver lining is that you rarely hear your neighbors because of it.

Lastly, if you’re looking for a longer-term stay, we found the application process here much easier than at most other parks. For healthcare contract workers especially, they seem to expedite the process and limit some of the background check and credit score requirements that many parks require.

Letts Lake Campground — Mendocino National Forest

    Dry Campig for 35' RV

We originally were going to Fouts Creek Campground but it was HOV weekend (Presidents). Lots of dirt bikes and law enforcement. National Forest pulled in officers from surrounding forests and Sheriff Depts.

With a 35' Class A our options were limited. A Ranger suggested Letts Lake. There is a narrow one lane newly paved road that goes up to Dixie Glade equestrian camp, from there it is dirt. Taking it slow, we made it to Letts Lake and parked in spot 12. It was a tight fit, but we made it.

There are two additional campgrounds at the opposite end of the lake but they are closed for winter. As there was no water or trash service there was no fee. Typically $5.00)

The lake is small with no motors allowed but easy to walk around. Pet friendly in fact all but one campsite had at least one dog.  Fire damage to the forest is substantial but new growth is already starting

    Volcanic Country Camping & RV

Close to Lassen NP - time capsule!

This place is cool - the Mineral Lodge and Restaurant is where we checked in for campground. We needed a place to stay before heading into Lassen Volcanic NP. The Mineral Lodge and campground next door are family owned and have a community feel. No frill campground, does have hookups.

$35 per night plus $2 pet fee

Sites very close together. Bathroom old but works. Poor T Mobile service. No wifi.

Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area Campground

    Made Myself at Home

I came to Colusa for work and only needed to stay for a couple of days, but I found the campground a comfortable spot to settle in for the week and catch up on some writing. I enjoyed biking the path along the river and fishing in the evenings. There are stray cats around town and the park. I lured one in with some treats.

    Yellow Creek Campground

    Hidden gem!

Most people flock to the nearby Lake Almanor or Butt Valley campgrounds, so Yellow Creek Campground is a nice place to go to escape bigger and busier spots. Nestled in the pines and bordering the Humbug valley, this campground has some of the best views in Northern CA.  It's off the beaten path a bit. About an 8 mile trip down a gravel road but very well maintained and easy to get a smaller RV back in there if you like. There's a natural soda spring on the entrance road where the local indigenous Maidu used to gather and drink for healing.  https://www.outdoorproject.com/united-states/california/soda-springs-historic-site

The Parkway RV Resort & Campground

    Great Stop of I-5

Stayed here for a second time driving from Southern California to Oregon. The sites are spacious and there is a pool to cool down during the hot summers. There is wine tasting as well. Management kept in communication with us through text (my preferred method). Easy access to I-5, very close to a Pilot for larger rigs. Definitely somewhere I plan to stay on my journeys through California.

Guide to Capay

Near Capay, California, campers can access a mix of private RV parks and dispersed camping options. Summer temperatures often reach 95-100°F, making early spring and fall the preferred camping seasons. Gravel sites retain heat during summer months, while shaded sites at Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area offer some relief from intense Sacramento Valley sun.

What to do

River access options: Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area features a seasonal fishing dock with small beach area where visitors can cool off. One camper noted, "There's access to the wildlife refuge and the county river park, both next door. Lovely and serene!"

Olive tasting: Olive Pit Dispersed Lot offers free overnight parking near specialty food shopping. A reviewer mentioned, "Spent the evening in the RV/Truck area after stocking up on some Olive stuffed garlic and artichokes. Mmmm. Was quiet besides the obvious freeway intersection area near by but NOT complaining."

Hiking opportunities: Trails around Black Butte Lake and surrounding areas provide moderate hiking options. As one camper at Buckhorn Recreation Area shared, "Great trail system for exploring the park. Boat ramp, old bathrooms. I was the only person in the park in mid December, so peaceful and beautiful."

What campers like

Quiet overnight stops: Many travelers appreciate the convenient locations for overnight stays along I-5. A guest at The Parkway RV Resort & Campground explained, "We needed a place to camp for the night, and Parkway was in the right location. When we arrived, the sites were clean and orderly, and there was actually grass and level parking spots."

Clean facilities: Consistently well-maintained bathrooms and showers rate highly with campers. One reviewer wrote, "Clean bathrooms in the remodeled facility, easy pull through spots fitting both big RVs and little vans like mine. Hot and windy, but very quiet little park and didn't hear highway at all."

Spacious sites: Campers frequently mention site size as a key benefit. A visitor to Orland Buttes commented, "Each camp site at this campground has a completely unique configuration, in terms of flatness, layout, privacy, closeness to neighbor, etc. For this reason we'd recommend waiting until you arrive to pick your site."

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Water levels and conditions vary dramatically through the year. A camper at Buckhorn noted, "Water was super warm, but gets icky in the summer, so definitely need to go early in the season."

Site selection matters: Campground layouts vary widely even within the same facility. One visitor advised, "Site 22 was huge and had plenty of space for our two tents and more. Our loop was full of RVs full of people having a great time."

Temperature extremes: Summer heat can be intense and requires planning. A camper warned, "It was very hot and a distance to the lake. Not to mention the rangers were very grumpy."

Tips for camping with families

Pet-friendly options: Several dog friendly campgrounds near Capay enforce standard policies. At Heritage RV Park, pets are welcome but must follow strict rules. A camper reported, "Very quiet can't hear the noise of the freeway at all. There are restaurants near as well as fuel stops."

Playground availability: Some campgrounds offer dedicated play areas. A visitor to Buckhorn Recreation Area mentioned, "Great day use areas! Nice playground area for kids. The swimming looks good as well."

Local food options: A nearby well-stocked general store provides family essentials. As one camper at Woodson Bridge Mobile Home & RV Park described, "Right down the street is a well stocked general store with a great little deli, had numerous people tell us the double burgers were to die for."

Tips from RVers

Leveling information: Site flatness varies considerably across campgrounds. A camper at Rolling Hills Casino Truck Lot noted, "Sites are level 75 ft pull through sites. We will stay again. Lower numbered sites are closest to amenities."

Hookup positioning: Some sites have awkward utility placement. One RVer explained, "We were in site A10 which we found a little difficult to connect the sewer hose without two hoses."

Length accommodation: Specific site details help with rig sizing and positioning. A camper shared, "Clean facilities, well maintained grounds and friendly neighbors. Conveniently located just off I-5, far enough away from the noise."
