    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Several campgrounds near Capay, California provide rustic cabin rentals with varying amenities and comfort levels. The Oroville-Feather Falls Casino KOA offers well-maintained cabins with electricity, heating, and access to clean bathrooms and showers. Mill Creek Resort features private cabins near Lassen Volcanic National Park with basic furnishings and proximity to natural attractions. McCarthy Point Lookout provides a more isolated cabin experience with toilet facilities but limited amenities. River Reflections RV Park in Oroville includes cabin rentals on beautifully landscaped grounds along the Feather River. According to one visitor, "The park is on the river with grass lawn all the way to river and very well kept."

Pet-friendly cabins can be found at most locations, though policies vary regarding size restrictions and additional fees. The Village at Highlands Ranch in Mill Creek welcomes pets and provides cabin accommodations with access to upscale dining options. East Park Reservoir cabins open in April and offer more rustic accommodations with basic amenities. Gridley Inn and RV Park provides year-round cabin rentals with electric hookups in a convenient in-town location. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for all cabin rentals, especially during summer months when availability becomes limited. One KOA guest noted, "They gave us treats and toys for each of our pups. Every time we've been into the store the customer service was superb."

Most cabins provide beds with mattresses but require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, and towels. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between locations, from basic microwaves to full kitchenettes with refrigerators and stovetops. The Mendocino National Forest Lake Red Bluff Recreation Area cabins offer a more primitive experience with limited amenities but beautiful natural surroundings. On-site camp stores at some locations provide basic groceries, firewood, and ice, though selection is typically limited. Visitors staying at cabins without full kitchens should plan to bring coolers, cooking equipment, and food supplies from larger towns in the region, as rural stores may have restricted hours and inventory.

      Mill Creek Resort

      Nice Private Campground

This campground is just south of Lassen Volcanic National Park.  It has two main sections, one for RVs and the other for tents.  There are a small number of RV sites with full hookups and then a larger number of tent sites.  The RV sites are fairly small, but felt separated enough to have some privacy.  The tent sites are a bit more rustic.

The other slightly odd part is that most of the RV sites were filled with people who came and stayed for the entire summer, year after year.  We were the only not long-term camper in the RV section.

      Pros:

      * Close to a lot of amazing scenery with Lassen

      * Well kept, clean, quiet campground

      * Camp store/restaurant is great

      * Laundry on site

      * Access to a nice little creek w/swimming hole

      Cons:

      * Camp store is open limited days

      * Tent sites only have pit toilets which are not the best maintained

      OK:

      * No fires in the RV sites

      * Showers were not always very clean

      Oroville-Feather Falls Casino KOA

      Really nice spot.

Right behind a casino, but a really nice park. Excellent bathrooms and showers. A pool area and dog park. Good Wi-Fi and amenities. A little pricier than what I am used to but it was a really nice place to stay the night. Also awesome treat bad for the dog provided at check in, a really nice touch.

      Mill Creek Resort

      Awesome Experience

Fantastic quiet, shady, private campsite. Bathrooms were spotless. Didn’t use the pay showers but I didn’t notice someone had left quarters in case you needed some. Short hike and you are at Mill Creek for a cooling wade. There is also a small camp store with wood, ice and other amenities. We even had a very friendly doe come for a visit. We will be back.

Mendocino National Forest Lake Red Bluff Recreation Area

      Great Quiet Campground

This is a gem in Red Bluff. CA. You are minutes from I-5 but it is impossible to hear the traffic. Right on the Sacramento River and the skies are remarkably dark.

We paid $8 per night for a site with our Interagency Senior Pass, no hookups. There are some sites with water and electric for $25 or $12.50 with pass. No sewer dump available.

I did not use the showers or bathrooms. Quarters required for a hot shower. Husband says bathroom was clean.

Beautiful old sycamore trees give this park lots of shade in the hotter months and provide a peaceful setting even in the winter months.

It is only about an hour to Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center at Lassen NP.

In November when we stayed, there were maybe four or five other campers.

We would definitely return when we are driving thru.

Mendocino National Forest Lake Red Bluff Recreation Area

      Great spot of passing through

This is a great spot close, but not too close to the highway. About 5-7 drive off the highway right next to the Sacramento River. There were about 20-25 sites that need to be booked online. It was full when we went, but we were able to boondock in the fisherman’s boat loading area w/out issue.

      Mill Creek Resort

      Quiet and private

This is so close to Lassen without the busyness of the park in summer. We visited end of July and the access to the creek was so welcome.

Sites above 10 will have a bit more quiet, but are further from the store/restaurant.

    What campers like

Convenient locations: Cabin rentals near major highways offer accessibility without sacrificing natural settings. Denise W. mentions Red Bluff Recreation Area is "minutes from I-5 but it is impossible to hear the traffic," providing isolation without difficult access.

Winter availability: Unlike many mountain cabin rentals, several sites remain open year-round. Nikolaj A. found The Village at Highlands Ranch ideal for off-season stays, noting it's "Located only 10 minutes from Lassen and by the road and still an rv spot in the forest."

    What you should know

Amenity variations: Cabin facilities differ significantly between locations. At Gridley Inn and RV Park, guests note "Kinda small sites, no table or anything," requiring campers to bring additional equipment.

Seasonal water levels: Reservoir-based cabins experience significant water level changes. Julie D. reports at East Park Reservoir, "The water was super low, so our view was completely dried up," during a June visit.

Entertainment options: Some cabin locations provide extensive recreational facilities beyond natural attractions. Brian A. notes Oroville-Feather Falls Casino KOA includes "A pool area and dog park" with additional amenities for children.

Noise factors: Consider neighbor proximity when booking family cabins. Elizabeth M. warns at River Reflections RV Park, "I can hear a gun range and a freeway," which might disturb light sleepers or young children.

Shade availability: Summer cabin stays require attention to sun exposure. Kelsey B. advises at East Park Reservoir to "make sure to bring a pop up tent/canopy for shade" as tree coverage can be limited at certain sites.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabin stays near RV areas, location matters significantly. Robin H. found at East Park Reservoir they "found one that had shade, wasn't too sloped and wasn't even next to anyone else."

Long-term considerations: Some cabin areas have significant permanent residents. Christopher N. observed at Mill Creek Resort, "most of the RV sites were filled with people who came and stayed for the entire summer, year after year," affecting the camping atmosphere.
