Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hoxie, AR

Several RV campgrounds operate near Hoxie, Arkansas with varying amenity levels. Lakeview RV Resort offers 75 sites with 50-amp electrical hookups, water connections, and full sewer service on asphalt pads. Lucky Camper & RV (formerly Perkins RV Park) provides year-round accommodations with full hookups and shaded sites. "The asphalt camp sites are extremely long but narrow," noted one visitor about Lakeview RV Resort, which sits alongside Interstate 555. Almost Home RV Park in Walnut Ridge features electric and sewer hookups with bathroom facilities but limited site amenities. Lake Charles State Park Campground, located 30 miles from Hoxie, offers spacious RV sites with 50-amp service on paved pads.

Road access to some parks requires careful navigation on narrow country roads. According to one camper, "Our RV Friendly GPS app did try to route us down a narrow gravel road to get here... I would recommend coming into Jacksonport off of AR Hwy 69 and onto Avenue St." Most RV parks in the region maintain sanitary dump stations, though facilities at Lake Frierson State Park lack this amenity, requiring a 10-minute drive to Crowley's Ridge State Park. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with AT&T coverage reported as surprisingly good at Jacksonport State Park. Seasonal considerations include mosquitoes and flies during summer months, particularly at Lake Charles. Pet policies generally allow dogs throughout the area's RV parks, though some swimming areas prohibit pets.

    Lake Poinsett State Park Campground

    Lake poinsett campground

Really enjoy camping at lake Poinsett. The campground is mostly shady with water and electric at each site. There is no sewer hook up but a dump station is next to the visitor center. There is a nice clean bathhouse and outside the campground is an all season pavilion. In the pick nick are the children have a playground. The lake itself has been drained to make repairs to the dam and fish habitat improvements

    Crowley's Ridge State Park Campground

    We Love Crowleys Ridge

Everything about this park is amazing. They recently redid the swimming area and cleaned and refilled with better water. They have paddle boats you can rent from Memorial Day through Labor Day. We have stayed many trips in this park. Site 1 is our favorite. Features pull through with a large area including tent pad and nice gathering area. We glamp camp and we’re able to set up a 16x20 tent, but the tent did go over the size of the pad. All sites have water and electricity, except for a few primitive sites. There is a nice campground and walking area. Also a great hiking trail which isn’t too hard. The park is close to Paragould with a Walmart and a dollar general is a couple miles away. The only site I wouldn’t recommend is site 9. It has a very steep hill and would only be good for very small campers or tent camping.

    Craighead Forest Park

    Chilly Camping

Excellent weekend camping at Craighead Forest State Park outside Jonesboro, Ar.

The park offers four trails, one gravel pedestrian only, one paved multi-use with excercise equipment, a forest trail and one dirt trail for bikers and runners. Three large playgrounds, pavilions and several small playgrounds. A dog park/beach access area and dog dock. Fishing and watercraft access. Camping and a nature center.

When we arrived at the campground we had the choice of several primitive campsites. There is limited parking in the small gravel lot. There are three sites near the lot and then several others about 200 to 300 ft down the gravel trail.

This is the same gravel trail, approximately 3 miles long, that circles the lake. Needless to say there is a lot of foot traffic on it.

There was plenty of room at the site. We set up two tents and a hammock plus had the picnic table, fire pit and gravel pad which is right on the lake. If you bring your fishing gear or water craft it’s easy to tie off right at your campsite.

Directly across from primitive camping are two very large , active playgrounds a pavilion and restroom. There’s a snow cone vendor with loud music who frequents that parking area too. In addition the park is not closed during the night so we got to listen to several loud conversation, music blaring from a car stereo until about 1:30am and a rather colorful argument at one point.

You drive through the RV area on your way in to the primitive area. There is a nice new bathroom facility with uncomfortably warm cranking heat, the metal fixtures were warm to the touch. One drawback to there being only one restroom about 1/4 mile from the primitive area, you know people aren’t walking that far at night when the need to go…, just saying.

So Pros: centrally located, water access, nice trails, good size sites, a lot to do

Cons: foot traffic, noise, no privacy, noise, not limited access

    Craighead Forest Park

    Cool Oasis

Craighead Forest Park was conceived in 1937 when the Young Mens' Civic Club began work on the lake.  It is now a city owned park that is located in the rolling hills of Crowley's Ridge.  The park encompasses 692 acres and should be the pride and joy of Jonesboro.  A residential area has grown around the park which will ensure the peacefulness of the area.  Basketball, bike and running trails, bird watching, camping, disc golf, fishing, horseshoes, playgrounds, softball, volleyball.  There is a great splash pad for the kids.  This place has it all rolled into one great package.  The grass and wooded areas are well maintained to make for a wonderful stay.

    • 5 tent sites
    • A primitive camping area
    • Electrical outlets
    • Fire rings
    • Picnic Tables,
    • Water
    • Tolilet and shower facilities
    • Laundry facilities
    • 41 sites with water and electric
    • Dump station
    • Reduced rates for seniors
    • Free firewood
    • Pets They have a dog jumping pier

This is a small, compact campground on a one lane road with a nice turn around at the bottom at the lake.  Some sites are called water sites but I consider them sites with a view of the water.  Most sites are level, some not, so when you reserve ask for one of the sites that has the new concrete pads.  The campground is located away from the ball areas so it is very quiet and not being on a thru street the only traffic is to be the campground traffic.  Sites are wooded and there was a nice breeze coming off the lake.  My first thought when I booked was MOSQUITOES you can't be from that area with out thinking of them.  For the two days we were there not a mosquito and almost no flies.  This is a wonderful surprise for anyone coming through Jonesboro.  We will be back.  Being in the south we all know how hot and humid it can be and a trip to the bathroom/shower facility is often not the most pleasant.  Loved the shower/bathroom facilities.  Air Conditioned, it was amazing with the temps reaching 100 and more while we were there..  This campground had set the bar high and I am sure they will always attain excellence.

The park has approximately 15 miles of mountain bike trails intertwined in the forest, there is a 2.4 mile chat trail that winds around the lake and a 2.9 miles if nicely paved road that circles the park.  There is an area for ATV riders and many trails can accommodate horses.  Check out the three trails that lead to the Forrest L. Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center.

The Forest L. Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center gives the visitor a chance to see the story of a very special ridge that runs along the top of the Mississippi Delta.  They have a 17,033 square foot facility that features an education, exhibit and meeting facility that is on 160 acre prairie.  There is a 2.5 acre pond and about 100 acres of woodlands.  the Nature Center is the perfect accessory to your stay at the Craighead Forest Park.

Jonesboro offers plenty of entertainment not nature related.  Arkansas State University, a great college town, all types of restaurants, chain and local, movie theatre, grocery stores, shopping mall.  There is the Arkansas State University Museum that features a 21,000 square feet of historic, archaeological and natural history exhibits.  It mainly focuses on the history and cultural heritage of Northeast Arkansas and the Mississippi River Delta.

Jonesboro might not be quite the draw of many other areas but I think you might be surprised.

Jonesboro is the fifth largest city in Arkansas weighing in at over 67,000 people

    Lakeview RV Resort

    Growing Pains

This resort is located right alongside Interstate 555 just as you enter Jonesboro.  It just changed ownership and is an RV park in it's infancy.  It needs a great deal of work and is being upgraded.  At this time they have 49 sites with monthly rates from less than $500 per month.  Different rates for 50 and 30 amp service.  As stated in the description this location is selective in what type of RV is allowed.  There is a shower house nearing completion along with laundry facilities.  Landscaping is needed and if you have solar panels you will have more than enough sun to keep your batteries charged.  Lack of trees might be an issue for some along with the noise from the interstate.  Another rv park is needed in Jonesboro and this one will fill that void.

Direction are needed to get to the campground.  From Jonesboro on I 555 take exit 39 onto King Drive.  Turn right onto Dalton Farmer Road.  You will see a Dead End sign but continue on to the end of the road and you will see the campground.  I would classify the lake mentioned as a pond.  During the summer as long as the mosquitoes were not bad it would make a nice trail around it.

    Crowley's Ridge State Park Campground

Nice park with surprising level sites

With the word RIDGE in it's name you pretty much know what to expect. These folks made it work. All sites are pretty level. if not level. Water & electric at all sites with picnic table, fire rine and stand up BBQ grill. Nice tree lined road, albeit very tight with on comming trafic, as are their interior roads. ATT & Verizon cell services were both useable just not the strongest..

Got here Sunday afternoon there wereo only3 others. With my disability pass the one night was only $12.79, tax & all.

This was a great nightover for us and would stay here again, but not as destination park.

Guide to Hoxie

What campers like

Lake views: Many campsites at Fourche Creek RV Park and Riding Trails offer scenic water views. "What a cute hidden gem! Hosts were so attentive and helpful—the grounds were so green and view of the woods and pond was so relaxing," explains a satisfied camper describing the natural setting.

What you should know

County restrictions: Some areas near Hoxie maintain alcohol restrictions. A camper at Lake Charles notes, "It is a dry county have to drive 30 or so minutes to get to a decent store for food. Keep that in mind if you stay here, make sure to be prepared or you will be hungry."

Insect activity: Summer brings increased bug populations. "The biting flies and mosquitos were ROUGH in the morning. You'll need your bug spray," warns a visitor to Lake Charles State Park Campground, while another reminder states, "It's in Arkansas so don't forget your mosquito spray after dark."

Tips for camping with families

Security considerations: Some parks maintain quiet environments with minimal outside traffic. At Lake Charles State Park Campground, one visitor noted, "This place is awesome everyone and the camp site was nice and keep to them selfs there wasnt people run all around and didnt have to worry about someone getting into our stuff."

It also has a hiking trail that is paved," mentions a repeat visitor to Lake Charles who appreciated the family-friendly amenities.

Tips from RVers

Road condition awareness: Access roads to many area campgrounds can present challenges. A camper at Lake Charles State Park Campground observed, "The roads into this area are narrow, winding and have no shoulder. Not the best for an old Class A, but worth the trip."

Site selection for shade: Summer heat requires careful consideration of tree cover. "Our site was in the shade the entire day," notes a Lake Charles camper who stayed in site 78, adding "Some of the waterfront sites in C area need more shade."

Overnight convenience: Lakeview RV Resort provides practical accommodations for travelers passing through. "This campground offers monthly rentals but also a place to hook up for a night or two. This is good for a one night rental when passing through. Expect noise from the interstate," advises a traveler who used the park as a stopover.
