Cabin camping options near Bullhead City, Arizona range from waterfront accommodations to desert retreats. The Colorado River creates a natural border between Arizona and Nevada, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 110°F and mild winters averaging 65-75°F. Most rental cabins in this region require advance reservations at least 60 days ahead during peak seasons from March through October.
What to do
Water activities on the Colorado River: Davis Camp Park visitors can enjoy jet skiing, boating, and swimming with direct river access. "Loved being able to set up our Napier Sportz tent with our Subaru at the river's edge on the Colorado River just outside of Bullhead City, Az. (across from Laughlin, NV). So clear! Lots of families with jet skis, which we found entertaining although noisy," notes one camper at Davis Camp Park.
Casino entertainment: Laughlin Avi KOA provides easy access to Nevada casinos. A visitor reports, "The KOA campground is nothing special, very basic, barren wasteland with full hookup sites. The cool thing here is that the AVI casino is directly across the street and is the only thing around for miles, so you'll most likely be spending your time there like we did." Many cabin campers take advantage of the water taxis that run between Arizona and Nevada.
Wildlife viewing: Arrowhead Cove at Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers opportunities to see desert wildlife. "The water is the clearest I've ever seen and the water fowl dive freely along the banks. There is a treasure trove of wildlife here apparent just from the birds singing. It was a cacophony of songbirds just before the sun went down over the mountains over the water to the west," describes one visitor at Arrowhead Cove.
What campers like
Riverside locations: Many cabin camping facilities near Bullhead City feature direct water access. At Colorado River Oasis RV Resort, "They have their own entrance to the river which is super neat because if you rent jet skis you can get back to your lodging any time of the day. Also if you have a boat you can load and unload it with the private ramp which is a bonus."
Privacy features: Ridgeview RV Resort has strategic landscaping to provide separation between sites. "Your away from the hustle and bustle of the river traffic but close enough to still Enjoy. Clean bathrooms, spotless pool and spa, stunning restaurant that offers brunch for $5 dollars on the weekends," according to a visitor at Ridgeview RV Resort.
Recreational amenities: Most cabin rentals provide access to community facilities. Moon River RV Resort offers "a nice activities room, laundry room and swimming pool. Most of the people here are snowbirds and they come back every year. This place is nice and close to Laughlin Nevada, Oatman and Bullhead City and yet it is still out in the country."
What you should know
Extreme heat preparations: Summer temperatures regularly exceed 110°F, requiring careful planning. "We stayed overnight in July and the temperature when we arrived was 113 degrees! As such, we were confined to our trailer. I can see this would be a great place in the winter, but not so great in the summer," notes a visitor at Desert View RV Resort.
Seasonal crowding: River access points become extremely busy during summer months. "Davis camp has gotten very populated over the years and gets really crowded, really quickly. If you want a nice spot, better get there early. Bathrooms were all either out of order or very dirty."
Pet restrictions: Most cabin facilities limit the number and size of pets. "Based on the street we were on, Bullhead City was a very sketchy place though and did not feel very safe. The campsite itself felt safe though. Important to know, there is a two dog limit."
Tips for camping with families
Childcare options: Some resorts offer supervised activities for children. "After the sun went down all the parents decided drop off all kids at the kids care play center where you can leave your kid in there till 2am, yes that's right 2am. All of us parents laughed at that but then went out gambling and eating out late and ended up picking our kids up close to 1am."
Open play areas: Several campgrounds provide unstructured recreation spaces. At Davis Camp Park, "We group camp here with fellow youth sports families. The kids love the open areas to run and play in though there are not great playgrounds. The sites are mostly level but could use some maintaining."
Pool access: Swimming pools offer relief from desert heat. "The pool was an absolute lifesaver in the August heat! Friendly locals (we needed a tin opener!) and several chatted to us in the pool and social room. Site is clean, toilets and shower block spacious and tidy," reports a visitor at Riverside Adventure Trails RV Resort.
