About Manzanita

Manzanita Campground is a small, year-round, tent-only facility with campsites that fill up very quickly. Visitors enjoy the campground for its fishing and swimming holes along Oak Creek, beautiful scenery and excellent wildlife watching. Oak Creek Canyon is very crowded, especially on weekends; to get a campsite, it is best to reserve a weekday.

Recreation

Recreation and relaxation abound in Oak Creek Canyon. Camping, fishing, swimming, wading and hiking are some of the activities awaiting visitors. Anglers have the convenience of creekside campsites, where they can cast a line for trout.

Families love driving down the road to nearby Slide Rock State Park, one of Arizona's most popular swimming spots, or trying out several nearby hiking trails.

Facilities

The campground is very easy to access and has paved parking. It is made up of single-family campsites that are fairly close together. Each site has a picnic table, campfire ring and grill. A campground host is available for visitor assistance. Firewood can be purchased on-site.
Coin-operated showers ($4 minimum) are available at Cave Springs Campground just up the road.

Campground has 7 first-come-first-serve sites which are often occupied. Campground host is unable to "hold" any first-come-first-serve sites for customers.

Natural Features

The campground borders Oak Creek in a lush, forested riparian zone with Arizona ash and box elders, gravel beaches and stream-bed boulders. Colorful songbirds add flashes of brilliance to the trees. The creek's crystal clear waters are cool and refreshing on hot summer days.

Nearby Attractions

The well-known town of Sedona is popular for its red rock vistas, resorts and shopping. Slide Rock State Park is a great local spot for swimming and only a few minutes away.

Campers can also explore the 1.8 million-acre Coconino National Forest, which boasts a spectacular variety of scenery and outdoor activities.

Beautiful little campground right on the creek

Right on oak creek with good entry to the creek, shaded, and good location from Sedona. A little close to the road, but the sound of the creek helps with that. Host was very friendly also. There was also yummy blackberries all around;)

Babbling brook

The best part is the closeness to oak creek. Listening to the babbling brook at night is priceless. However, the sites are close to each other and you will be right off Hwy 89A so expect traffic noise until late evening. This campground’s reservations fill up in March/April for the coming summer so book early. I recommend spots 9-12.

Good but beware

Good site. Nice area but at night there were thousands of beetles and spiders. It’s was raining June bugs

River camping in Arizona

Another small roadside campground that hugs the side of the hill. Sites were small and on top of each other. The best sites (taken, of course) were set back next to the creek and swimming hole. They were also the biggest sites, but I don’t think they were group sites. Watch out for snakes, there were signs everywhere. Every site had a picnic table and fire pit, but a burn ban was in effect so you could not have a campfire. I thought the price for the sites was a bit steep considering how close they were to the road (literally right next to the road) and the lack of amenities- no hook ups for RV’s and only a fairly dirty pit toilet.

On the water outside Sedona

This is pretty close to Sedona (10 minutes) and right along a river that’s fun to wade in (not sure if you can canoe it?), plus long hiking trails nearby. Cool cliffs and just really neat scenery and the campground only accept tents so you get to sleep next to the creek among shady trees. This was too full the first time we tried to visit so you will want to make reservations! I really like campsites without RV, no offense, and while it is kind of close to the highway you can’t tell at all. Try to get a site at the end that’s close to the creek.

Can't wait to go back.

Will be back asap, I haven't stoped thinking about this place since I left. If we would have waited until Friday we wouldn't have gotten in without a reservation. We got in I Wednesday so it was no problem. Can't wait to show all my friends.

Came for Bell Rock, but enjoyed Manzanita as well

Stopped at this campground on a trip across country. Apparently, it gets full, but we lucked out, and it was right by the river. We wanted to hike to Bell Rock and was only using this as a stopover, but we really enjoyed the scenery in the campground.

Manzanita!

This is one of my absolute favorite campgrounds out here in AZ. Its one of the only ones located along the river. Plan ahead because sometimes a reservation is needed unless you get there at the right time during checkouts and before check ins!
