"The campground is at the start of one of the great canoe trails that ends at Wasilla Lake."
"Only down side is that there is a lot of private property around the lake so one would need to be aware of docking kayak/boat to go off trail hiking."
"Multiple trails travel along the campground and the river. Beautiful Alaskan experience right next to Alaska's largest city."
"Bring your fishing pole as you're close to the river. Enjoy what Alaska has to offer!"
"Friendly people, cute and quaint place, beautiful views of the lake, safe atmosphere, warm showers, right next to a state park. Definitely recommend!"
"A bit wide open and highway noise but on lake with laundry, showers, full hookups, firewood for sale, restaurant, matanuska lake access, long term parking too. Some sites have gorgeous lake views."
$20 - $40 / night
"Minutes away from the amenities of a small city. Not much privacy between spots but there are some trees. There’s a lake with some small walking trails which are nice in the morning."
"Great all around, Great Lake. Good trees."
"Favorite place we stayed at out of all locations on our trip. Cleanliest, coziest, well-taken care of place. Bathrooms and showers were 10/10."
"There was a bit of road noise from the nearby highway but our family wasn't bothered at all by it as we are used to living on a base with lots of jet noise."
$30 / night
"Saw a few with overlapping awnings
72 is a great site, our 30 ft 5er and f250 fitted in fine, but some caution needs to be exercised when driving. Trees made Starlink coverage a bit spotty."
"RIGHT next to a cemetery. Had a dump station and water. No Mountain View’s and bustling on the weekend. Spots are close together, parking lot style but do have grass and picnic table."
"Harchers pass is a very remote area with camping opportunities along the route from Palmer Alaska to the road to Denali. There are no amenities and few people in tge area."
"Explore mountains, glaciers and rivers and some of the most beautiful backcountry the state of Alaska has to offer"
"Quiet nice sites next to a large pond. They made a nice sandy beach. Good location right off the highway but somehow quiet."
"Close to a bike trail and a sandy beach to Johnson pond. There is decent space between RV and tons of wild flowers."
"Vrey nice facility, clean, shallow lake great for kayaking swimming and fishing. Downside is that you cannot use this lake without paying, even if you walk in."
"We rented a canoe and fished on the lake. The kids also went swimming on a super hot day with life vests available to borrow."
Campsites are pretty spaced. You get a picnic table and a fire ring for 20 bucks a night. Yes, there is road noise but that does calm down at night. Pit toilets around, clean and stocked. No water, so bring some. Cellphone signal (t mobile) and Internet pretty good. Nice bike trail close. They do also have cabins to rent
There are actually at least 4 separate camping areas here at the confluence of the Matanuska and King rivers. The largest is on the more southwesterly corner and could accommodate at least a dozen rigs of any size. Most are on river gravel or dirt, and a few are riverfront. Most of these would offer excellent Starlink and solar. On the northwesterly side are a half dozen sites mixed among the trees. A big rig could get in here, but this is more natural for vans and such. Heavy trees mean little solar and obstructed Starlink. The northeasterly side has a few spots too, but definitely just a van or smaller.
Road noise is shockingly light considering how close you are to the road. The river drowns out a lot of it, and being significantly below the road helps too.
Not exactly peaceful camping, so I expect most people are like us and will use it strictly as an overnight.
Check in was very easy. Guys at the store are very helpful. It is right off the road, so yes there is road noise. We had a pull thru site, very level with a picnic table and fire pit. Very close to Johnny on the spot toilet, which was very clean. There are electricity hook ups but no water. There is a potable water fill up but no dump. Mosquitos galore though this time of year. Really pretty Creek. Great wifi near the well stocked store. Close to supermarket too. Great place to visit is Talkeetna
Very clean campground right next to Finger Lake. Vault toilets were spotless, campsites were clean, host puts reserved tags up on your camp post.
Everything was super clean and the hosts were very nice!
The river basin was cut off by a large flow of river limiting all vehicles to a small dirt driveway; fortunately there were few people camping so we made camp for the night. The mosquitoes were so bad however we stayed in the rv all night which is not our style.
Has porta potty, bear safe trash, streetlight, off road enough to not be too loud, there are often people around but they’re not loud, good low-key place to be, just stay respectful of the area and don’t bother anyone, you’ll be left alone
Great location for families. Quite
The campground is very well kept. All the facilities(wc, showers, laundry) were spotless and looked nice.
