    Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp

    Lovely

Great campground for military, large level sites. Long term sites have covered patios. Full hookup, no wi fi. Laundry rooms, 1.00 to wash and dry, with efficient cycles. Lake with playground and large dog park. Exceptionally friendly staff. Quiet and we'll maintained. Shower rooms available, although have not used. You do hear planes going over but not too loud as some AFB's we've stayed at. Relvery plays at 6:30 am, Star Spangled Banner at 5:00pm, and TAPS at 9pm, not offensively loud, kinda like it. Would highly recommend and will be staying awhile great monthly rates. Great Verizon signal.

    Kountry Air RV Park

    Clean quiet campground

We have stayed here many times when were on the road heading  out for the summer.  We had full hook up, a picnic table & there is a small clean restroom near the pool if needed along with a laundry room & place to sit inside if it's hot out.  They have DVD's and some books we trade them where were there. We only stay a night & stay hooked up to the truck. The owners Gigi & her husband work hard to keep the gardens beautiful, the campground maintained & the pool is so clean & refreshing.  You can get propane here.

We've stayed 3 different time & had a nice site towards the back with a garden on the side.

It's off the beaten path a little but well worth it.

    The Backyard RV Resort

    Great Campground

Reservations made yhe night before online. The campground has not changed nanes yet but will be known as Unhitched Montgomery. Some short time stays and a bunch of long term stays. Clean bathhouse and great outdoor gathering areas, really like "the hangout" area. Pet friendly. Laundry available. It seems secluded but there are a lot of conveniences nearby. People at front desk were very friendly. Easy pull through sites. Highly recommend.

    Montgomery KOA Journey

    Great little KOA

This KOA is just outside Montgomery. It has lot of drive through spots that are very long so perfect for big rigs. They have a few back in spots and some tent spots. They also have a very nice cottages and cabins. They have a laundry facility and clean shower rooms. Plenty on space for your dog to run. It has a large fire ring with lots of chairs around it the main part of the camp but no individual camp rings. Each site has a picnic table. The staff was super friendly and accommodating (we needed a later than 11 check out and they were fine with that). They recently re did the community center where you can watch TV, visit or play games. They offer free coffee, cocoa and tea here in the community center. The have a great walking trail. They have a few full time RVers here but it is clean and quiet and we had no issues. On your drive in the driveway is a bit steep and you’ll need to swing wide to make it in but as long as you know you’ll be fine.

    Chewacla State Park Campground

Great little state park just outside Auburn.

Traveling back east, we found Chewacla State Park campground on The Dyrt. Due to heavy rain, did not make it as far as we wanted, so this was a last minute same day reservation, which we made online.

Total fees were $42 for a full hookup site. We got site 34 which is an 80' long back in spot. Super easy to back in, even in super dark conditions with heavy cloud cover and no street lights of any kind.

Water pressure is awesome and they have both 30 & 50 amp electric. Sewage is nicely placed in a low spot so you won't need a hose lifter (a rarity in our experience).

Out spot is across from the bath house, but also the dump station. No smells, but I would imagine mornings might be a bit congested and noisy as other campers are leaving and dumping.

Also directly across from the site is a large picnic shelter. Sites are decently spaced apart, though site 35 is a pull through, and though unoccupied on our nights stay, might make it feel a bit more cramped.

Our site had a fire ring and picnic table. And even though it's close to the highway, no noticeable traffic noise. Only thing we could hear were some kids playing across the campground.

It's about 5 minutes off the interstate and very easy access (just watch out for the staggered speed bumps at the campground entrance...it's narrow, too.

No wi-fi in the park. But Verizon 4G was 3 out of 5 bars on my Samsung S20+.

Overall a great spot and easy to reserver online for those looking for a calm and peaceful overnight. Looking forward to getting a run on the trails in the morning!

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Camp Sherrye on the Coosa

    Great place near family

This is our second stay- had premium site before- they place your travel trailer so the trailers are facing the same way because you can’t back into the premium. . We had a pull through this week- no shade, but C2 had a nice view. We will be back for the month of November.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

Guide to Equality

Montgomery region offers multiple RV parks near Equality, Alabama with full hookup options on concrete or gravel pads. Most sites accommodate large motorhomes with 50-amp service. The area sees peak demand during football season and spring events, with campgrounds typically 20-40 miles from Equality proper. Several parks offer dog-friendly facilities and year-round availability, important during Alabama's humid summer months.

What to do

Safari adventure: 5 miles from Montgomery South RV Park: Visit the Alabama Safari Park located minutes from the campground. "This park is right up the street from Alabama Safari Park, and there are a few restaurants up the road near the interstate," notes one camper. Perfect for families wanting to stretch their legs.

Fishing opportunities: At nearby ponds and lakes: The Backyard RV Resort features a pond with fountain. According to one visitor, "We were lucky enough to score a site on the water. Spots are level and decent sized." Some travelers report watching "cows and dog herding the goats through the clearing."

Walking trails: Through wooded areas: Explore nature paths available at several campgrounds. "Our dogs enjoyed the dog park and walks through the woods and around the lake," mentions one reviewer at The Backyard RV Resort. Several parks maintain dedicated walking areas away from highway noise.

What campers like

Spacious sites: At Kountry Air RV Park: "The sites are well placed and spread out so you don't feel like you're right on top of the campers next to you. Just a beautiful and bucolic setting," one reviewer comments. The campground features carefully leveled gravel sites for easy setup.

Helpful management: Assisting with setup: Owners often provide personalized service. One camper at Montgomery South RV Park reported, "Staff was wonderful and engaging. Expect a former Marine to escort you to your site, rain or shine. It was pouring buckets when we arrived and he insisted on taking us literally across the street from the camp store."

Security features: 24-hour monitoring: Many parks maintain security patrols. A visitor at The Backyard RV Resort noted, "We feel safe here with the hidden location and security cameras." This provides peace of mind for travelers storing equipment outside their vehicles overnight.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Football weekends fill quickly: Auburn RV Park becomes especially crowded during game days. "This is a popular RV campground for football fans coming to Auburn Games in the fall," explains a reviewer. Advance reservations are essential during these periods.

Highway noise levels: Varies by campground: While convenient to interstate access, some locations experience traffic sounds. At The Backyard RV Resort, "Can hear Highway and trains outside but didnt bone inside my RV." Consider requesting sites furthest from highways when booking.

Water pressure variations: Bring regulators: Some parks have high water pressure. One camper at Montgomery South RV Park noted, "Water pressure in campground is 80 psi." RVers should bring pressure regulators to protect their systems.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple options: Several campgrounds offer play areas for children. At Bar-W RV Park, kids enjoy watching farm animals. "A herd of Angus with a Longhorn thrown in, a pond with ducks, geese flying over, cool!" one visitor shared.

Entertainment alternatives: For rainy days: The Backyard RV Resort provides community spaces. "Very nice fenced in dog park for off leash play time," notes one camper. Others mention outdoor gathering spaces including "the hangout" area.

Wildlife viewing: Educational opportunities: Bar-W RV Park operates as a working farm. "It's on a cow farm, and sometimes the cows get lose but are sweet and generally stay right by the fence anyway," explains a visitor. This provides natural learning experiences for children.

Tips from RVers

Connectivity considerations: Carrier coverage varies: Cell service strength differs between parks. At The Backyard RV Resort, one camper reported, "Our AT&T had 5 bars and streamed videos with no problem. Verizon had 4 bars as well." This information helps remote workers plan accordingly.

Site selection strategy: Request specific locations: At Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park, "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches." Request sites away from common areas if seeking quiet.

Supply availability: Check nearby services: Most parks have limited onsite supplies. "Propane is available on site and the camp store has a little bit of everything. And there's a Love's truck stop at the exit as well," notes a Montgomery South RV Park visitor regarding convenient restocking options.
