Wind Creek State Park Campground accommodates pets throughout its extensive lakefront property, offering numerous camping options with full hookups for RVs and waterfront sites. Pets must remain leashed in all areas of the campground, including along the lake trails and at campsites. Bathhouses located throughout the campground remain extraordinarily clean with daily maintenance, making this a practical option for extended stays with animals. The family-oriented environment includes multiple playgrounds for children and designated areas where pets can exercise. Many waterfront sites require week-long minimum stays, though vacancies become available for shorter visits during check-in times. Tent camping, RV spots with 30/50-amp service, and cabin accommodations all permit pets, creating flexible options for travelers with animals.

Lake Martin's shoreline provides excellent opportunities for pet-friendly recreation, with multiple swimming areas and boat launches accessible to campers. The main hiking trails remain open to leashed dogs year-round, offering easy walking paths through wooded areas with lake views. Pets particularly enjoy the waterfront sites in Section E, which tends to be quieter than the more crowded sections B and C. Campground rules maintain quiet hours to prevent excessive barking or disturbance to neighboring campsites. The nearby town of Alexander City provides veterinary services and a Walmart for any forgotten pet supplies. During summer months, owners should consider early morning or evening exercise times as Alabama temperatures can become uncomfortable for animals during midday hours. The archery range, mini-golf course, and hiking trails from 1-15 miles provide additional recreation options while keeping pets appropriately exercised during extended camping trips.

      The Backyard RV Resort

      Home away from home

We are baaaack! We came back on Friday, the 26th and decided to stay a week. Shannon and his wife, Stacey have the gift of hospitality. We feel safe here with the hidden location and security cameras. Our dogs enjoyed the dog park and walks through the woods and around the lake. I enjoyed the watching the cows and dog herding the goats through the clearing. There is also a playground for kids.

      Peach Queen Campground

      Great campground with friendly staff

The staff here is wonderful. They've helped us adjust to full time RV Life over that past 4 months. The residents here are very friendly as well.

They have a dog park at the front and a large field in the back door our dog to run and play. The pavilion is also great for getting out, even in rainy weather.

The pool is amazing. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas to rest and our kids love the slide.

      Montgomery South RV Park

      Great little campground off I-65

Ultra clean Good Sam campground located just off I-65. Staff was wonderful and engaging. Expect a former Marine to escort you to your site, rain or shine. It was pouring buckets when we arrived and he insisted on taking us literally across the street from the camp store to ensure we had everything we needed.

All lots appeared to be pull thru and level. Due to rain, we kept our Airstream connected to the truck and just connected water and electricity. Leveling was minimal (fore/aft) with no need for blocks or boards.

Recommend staying in sites closer to camp store, as they are farthest from interstate. We barely heard it from site 2.

Laundry room was clean and available to wash/dry lots of towels due to rain and wet dog. Water pressure in campground is 80 psi.

Large fenced dog park at north end and plenty of green space for walking your puppy. Just be aware there are rabbits all over the place.

Propane is available on site and the camp store has a little bit of everything. And there’s a Love’s truck stop at the exit as well.

Great spot for an overnight stay on your trip. You won’t find a nicer staff or a cleaner campground!a

      Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp

RV Friendly, not so much for tents

This is an okay campground but really caters to RVs. There's a whole lot of concrete, perfect for recreational vehicles but not so much for tent or hammock campers. It's more of an RV resort of sorts.

Tent sites are cheap at $5/night but you're limited to only 7 nights. Which probably won't matter to a tent camper here, as I would think being here for that long would be a bit much.

There are a ton of amenities here, including an old softball field turned into a dog park of sorts. There is a nice little lake but that's about it in terms of 'natural' amenities. Okay spot if you just need a place to stay the night but I wouldn't prolong a visit here. Also sort of loud given its close proximity to the train tracks.

      Kountry Air RV Park

      Natural & Beautifully Wooded

My husband's job requires constant travel. We stayed here for five weeks for a job in Selma. I absolutely LOVED this campground! GiGi and Don work tirelessly six days a week. If there were 8 days in a week, they would work 7. Beautiful flowers, more trees than I have ever seen in a campground, fenced dog park, seasonal pool, bathrooms with a shower, large laundry room/sitting area at the front of the park, book/DVD swap, second laundry room being renovated at the back of the park, propane filled on site and safe walking within the park (hills). Some road noise but not obnoxious. Will absolutely stay here again if we are in the area.

      Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp

      Lovely

Great campground for military, large level sites. Long term sites have covered patios. Full hookup, no wi fi. Laundry rooms, 1.00 to wash and dry, with efficient cycles. Lake with playground and large dog park. Exceptionally friendly staff. Quiet and we'll maintained. Shower rooms available, although have not used. You do hear planes going over but not too loud as some AFB's we've stayed at. Relvery plays at 6:30 am, Star Spangled Banner at 5:00pm, and TAPS at 9pm, not offensively loud, kinda like it. Would highly recommend and will be staying awhile great monthly rates. Great Verizon signal.

      The Backyard RV Resort

      Pretty Setting!

Honestly, wasn't sure when we first turned in the driveway.  However, very happy with the park!  We were lucky enough to score a site on the water.  Spots are level and decent sized.  Booking was a breeze, staff was very friendly.  We didn't use the bathrooms or laundry room but they look very clean and recently updated.  Also has a very nice fenced in dog park for off leash play time.

Our AT&T had 5 bars and streamed videos with no problem.  Verizon had 4 bars as well.

      Kountry Air RV Park

      Great Experience

This review is based on a short-term versus destination campground (CG). When we made reservations, we were told to only take exit 179 off I-65 and follow the GPS directions, as any other way will take you on narrow roads, including gravel roads. We drove the 14 miles from the exit to the CG with no issues. We were greeted by Don on his golf cart, and his wife, Gigi, checked us in at the office. We received a great rundown of the local area, including restaurant suggestions that looked really good. Unfortunately, we were only overnighting here and did not have the chance to enjoy Prattville. We were led to pull through site A with FHUs. Getting to our site was a little narrow but very doable. The site was level and pleasantly spacious both at and between sites. The utilities are in the middle of the pad. We were able to position so we could get to both black tanks with a 10’ sewer hose. We got 2 bars on Verizon, and their WiFi was better than most CGs this size. Both Don and his wife came by at separate times to ensure we were settled in, to include asking if we needed propane. The CG is mainly full-timers that include a small community of retired military. They have dedicated sites for short-term stays. There were transient workers as we heard the familiar Cummings diesel start-ups in the wee hours of the morning. There is some road noise, but not bad. They have a nice dog park. As we travel through the area, we will place this CG on our return list.

      Peach Queen Campground

      Peach Queen campground

When we arrived the grass was very tall. They did mow today. Just not my site as we were occupying it. It has full hook ups. Not very much shade. My site has none. The bathrooms are dirty. The pool is a nice size. It could use a vacuum. There is a decent size jungle gym at the playground. My 8 year old son has been having a great time playing with other kids there. There is a nice sized fenced in dog park. There is a swing to sit on. However, it’s all busted up and not usable. There is a nice sized pond. I haven’t been to it yet. There is supposed to be wifi. I don’t see the network when searching for it. We have our own hotspot. It runs on the t mobile network. Except, we don’t have a signal here. I haven’t met anyone who runs this place. Honestly if my son wasn’t having as much fun playing on the playground we would’ve left after the first night. We booked 3 nights as to break up our drive. I definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

    Guide to Equality

Wind Creek State Park and surrounding campgrounds offer pet-friendly camping options near Equality, Alabama. Located on Lake Martin's 770 miles of shoreline, the area maintains moderate winter temperatures typically staying above 40°F, making it suitable for year-round camping with dogs. The region's clay soil creates stable ground conditions even during spring showers.

    What to do

Evening recreation after dark: Wind Creek State Park offers multiple options for campers at night. "We stayed at site 100 it was an excellent site right on the water next to us was like a private beach. This is the only public access to Lake Martin. Large lake for swimming, boating, fishing," reports Rachel G. from Wind Creek State Park Campground.

Mini-golf course access: The park features dedicated recreational facilities beyond hiking. "They have a zip line and tree line adventure course, mini-golf, a beach area for swimming, and plenty of fishing spots. They also offer church services on Sunday morning," notes Romeo M., highlighting activities beyond water sports.

Visiting Montgomery attractions: Located 30 miles from Equality, Gunter Hill Campground provides access to the capital city. "The location is great, right outside of the city and perfectly placed for us to stop on our road trip from the national park sites in Tuskegee and heading to them in Selma," explains Sarah C. from Gunter Hill.

    What campers like

Winter camping comfort: While summer draws crowds, winter provides a more secluded experience. "We were the only trailer in loop D. It was quiet and very enjoyable! Being right on the lake and having the ducks swim up really thrilled our dogs," shares Erin L. about her off-season stay at Wind Creek State Park Campground.

Historic structures: Beyond Lake Martin, nearby Weogufka State Forest offers unique camping near preserved buildings. "Access to southern terminus of the Pinhoti Trail. CCC tower and cabins from 1930's," notes Ro J. from Weogufka State Forest Flagg Mtn highlighting historical elements near camping areas.

Concrete pads at Chewacla: East of Equality, Auburn's state park features well-designed sites. "Many of the sites back up into the woods for shade and a hint of privacy with plenty of space to setup outside. We are staying in the second loop and really like our site. The sites near us (28-33) all look great for space," explains Jared W. from Chewacla State Park Campground.

    What you should know

Limited winter activities: Some seasonal facilities close during colder months. "This campground is a better place for the summer not much to do in the winter. It's a place for swimming, fishing, and boat riding," notes Ginger S. about Gunter Hill.

Varying site spacing: Campground layouts differ significantly between parks. "Spaces are a little tight, but had our own patio and typical campground layout. Lots of long timers. Hosts/Owners were really nice and accommodating," explains Gordon D. about Capital City RV Park.

Check-in timing constraints: Wind Creek State Park maintains specific entrance policies. "Check in is at 4 pm and check out is at 2 pm. Spots are close together but I've seen worse," notes Romeo M., providing practical information for arrival planning.

    Tips for camping with families

Lookout for off-season discounts: Families can save money during shoulder seasons. "A little hilly, but got my 27' camper in easy, nice quiet sites next to lake mitchell, we stayed through holloween, and it was a nice family vibe, everyone very friendly. cheap too, off season 150 a week," shares T H. about Higgins Ferry RV Park.

Consider off-the-water sites for quieter stays: Some sections provide more peaceful family camping. "We've stayed here 3 times... Very safe and quite. Friendly staff. Speed limit enforced," explains Mike R., noting security measures important for families with children.

Pack water toys: Lake access enhances family camping experiences. "Tent camping with family during Hurricane evacuation. Beautiful park, numerous bath houses, laundry, camp store, playgrounds, mini golf, and so much more. Secluded campground with RV and tent sites right on Lake Martin," shares Kim T. about Wind Creek's appeal for families.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger rigs: Choose sites based on rig size and hook-up needs. "Booked sites with friends months ago for a one night stay on the way to Columbus, MS. As such, we were able to book FHU sites along the water. Very long and level concrete pad," notes Rick G. about Gunter Hill's accommodations.

Sewer connection positioning: Check hookup locations before setting up. "We stayed overnight on site 35. It has full hookups, however the sewer was a bit far from the parking pad. If you have a single black tank hose this may be an issue," advises Richard A., providing practical insight for RV setup.

Wi-Fi reliability: Some campgrounds offer surprisingly good connectivity. "WiFi works great in our section as well if you need that. Speed test showed 10Mbps on my device and I had no issues streaming 4K on a Roku TV," reports Jared W. about Chewacla State Park, valuable information for working campers.
