      Time Away RV Resort

      Very nice campground

This is a really nice RV park that provides close access to the racetrack. It is wonderfully taken care of and has recently been renovated. They have a playground and several covered areas for picnics and group gatherings. A key bonus to this site is the pool which is very necessary when camping in Alabama in the summer. Overall, I would definitely suggest checking this campground out as an option if you are headed to a race and coming for the weekend.

      Peach Queen Campground

      Great campground with friendly staff

The staff here is wonderful. They've helped us adjust to full time RV Life over that past 4 months. The residents here are very friendly as well.

They have a dog park at the front and a large field in the back door our dog to run and play. The pavilion is also great for getting out, even in rainy weather.

The pool is amazing. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas to rest and our kids love the slide.

      Bama RV Station

      Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

      Kountry Air RV Park

      Natural & Beautifully Wooded

My husband's job requires constant travel. We stayed here for five weeks for a job in Selma. I absolutely LOVED this campground! GiGi and Don work tirelessly six days a week. If there were 8 days in a week, they would work 7. Beautiful flowers, more trees than I have ever seen in a campground, fenced dog park, seasonal pool, bathrooms with a shower, large laundry room/sitting area at the front of the park, book/DVD swap, second laundry room being renovated at the back of the park, propane filled on site and safe walking within the park (hills). Some road noise but not obnoxious. Will absolutely stay here again if we are in the area.

      GrandStand RV Park

      Really nice RV Campground

This is a really great option super close to the racetrack. The facilities are really nice and the staff takes great care of the space. They even have a dog run to let your pets run around. I don't know if it would be my first choice if I were tent camping but with an RV it is a wonderful place to stay.

      Kountry Air RV Park

      Great Experience

This review is based on a short-term versus destination campground (CG). When we made reservations, we were told to only take exit 179 off I-65 and follow the GPS directions, as any other way will take you on narrow roads, including gravel roads. We drove the 14 miles from the exit to the CG with no issues. We were greeted by Don on his golf cart, and his wife, Gigi, checked us in at the office. We received a great rundown of the local area, including restaurant suggestions that looked really good. Unfortunately, we were only overnighting here and did not have the chance to enjoy Prattville. We were led to pull through site A with FHUs. Getting to our site was a little narrow but very doable. The site was level and pleasantly spacious both at and between sites. The utilities are in the middle of the pad. We were able to position so we could get to both black tanks with a 10’ sewer hose. We got 2 bars on Verizon, and their WiFi was better than most CGs this size. Both Don and his wife came by at separate times to ensure we were settled in, to include asking if we needed propane. The CG is mainly full-timers that include a small community of retired military. They have dedicated sites for short-term stays. There were transient workers as we heard the familiar Cummings diesel start-ups in the wee hours of the morning. There is some road noise, but not bad. They have a nice dog park. As we travel through the area, we will place this CG on our return list.

      Oak Mountain State Park Campground

      Fun for the whole family

Oak mountain state park has been a favorite of mine since I was a child. There's so much to do; and its always growing. It's the largest state park in Alabama. Theres lakes, waterfalls, nature trails, basket ball court, volley ball, a petting zoo, horses back riding, water sports, dirt bikes trails, BMX course, archery, cabins, primitive camping and rv's , a beach, a wildlife rescue center and so much more. If you're in the area do yourself a favor and check it out.

    Guide to Columbiana

The Columbiana area sits at approximately 500 feet elevation in central Alabama's Shelby County, bordered by Lay Lake along the Coosa River. Camping options near Columbiana range from waterfront RV sites to secluded forest campgrounds with mountain biking trails. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons.

    What to do

Explore hiking trails: Oak Mountain State Park offers extensive trail options for all skill levels. "Beautiful park with lots to do! Oak Mountain is a big state park with lots to do (golf, biking, archery, lots of trails that are very well marked, petting zoo, very neat trail with rescued owls, turkeys and red hawks, and more)" notes camper Scott C.

Visit historical sites: Brierfield Ironworks Historical Park provides glimpses into Alabama's industrial past. The park features "lots of neat buildings" though one reviewer notes there's "not much information on what you are looking at or should look for," suggesting you might want to research beforehand.

Swim in the summer: Several campgrounds offer swimming options. Brierfield has "a wonderful inground pool" according to Ginger S., while at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park Campground, "the creek is peaceful and adds great ambiance" with many children playing in the water near their sites, though there's "no designated access area for wading or swimming."

    What campers like

Scenic water views: At Paradise Point Marina and RV Resort in Columbiana, sites are situated along Lay Lake. Clay M. describes it as "flat paved spot to park RV for home base while fishing/boating... Restaurant at marina and marina/store great. Staff courteous and helpful."

Modern facilities: The recently renovated Oak Mountain State Park receives high praise for its updates. "They put a massive amount of money into updating this place. This is the #1 best state park campground I have ever been at," writes Soren B. Another camper adds, "Remodeled spaces with adequate space for a newbie to back her travel trailer in with no problems. What an Ego booster!"

Historical attractions: Tannehill offers unique historical features combined with recreation. One camper shares, "The park is full of historical buildings like an old mill, furnace, blacksmith shop, and restored cabins (some are available to rent). There's a Sunday church service at 9AM, playgrounds, picnic pavilions, a general store, a miniature train ride, and even an ice cream shop."

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer temperatures in central Alabama regularly reach the 90s with high humidity. At Oak Mountain Backcountry Site, campers can escape some heat as the park offers numerous hiking trails and recreational activities. Cat mentions, "You'll never run out of things to do between the endless hiking trails, the museum of wildlife, and the wildlife rescue center."

Reservation policies vary: Some parks require advance booking while others operate first-come, first-served. Tannehill doesn't take reservations - "You just pull in, find a site, and register/pay the next morning," reports one camper.

Facility limitations: Not all campgrounds offer full amenities. Paradise Point "lacks bathroom facilities but compensates with its prime marina location and on-site restaurant." Another reviewer notes the campground contains "many permanent residents rather than short-term campers."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Chilton County Minooka Park offers excellent family recreation options. "The playground is also small but nice. Lots of trails to hit on the dirt bikes or ATVs," writes Chris B. Another camper adds, "There's a small lake but it's only for fishing. Can't paddle board or canoe here."

Swimming options: Multiple parks offer water recreation for children. At Tannehill, the creek provides natural play areas. "We had a blast. So much to see and do," reports Meredith M. who visited with children.

Educational opportunities: Oak Mountain features a wildlife center perfect for curious kids. "It has wifi throughout and almost everywhere in the park has cell reception," notes one reviewer, making it easier for families needing connectivity.

    Tips from RVers

Level sites: Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera lives up to its name with varying terrain but workable sites. "Gravel site was fairly level despite being in a hilly area. There's quite a bit of space between most of the sites (particularly the back in sites)," notes David S.

Hook-up availability: When seeking pet friendly camping near Columbiana, Alabama, check what utilities are available. Hoover Met Complex RV Park offers "easy hooks ups and good WiFi available," according to Chris G., making it convenient for RVers needing full connectivity.

Ease of access: Consider how easily you can navigate to and within campgrounds. Birmingham South RV Park is noted for being "very secure" with "nice small sites" though they're not concrete pads. For those traveling with pets near Columbiana, accessibility matters when choosing an appropriate campground.
