Peaceful & Beautiful

Gunter Hill is a gem of a campground! Sites are spacious, long, and paved with full hookups. We were on the lake in site 28. The bathrooms & showers are older but adequate. Wished we could have stayed more than one night.

Easy access and nice

Convenient to the highway. Can hear it but not too bad. Cleaned and easy hookups. Even cable TV.

Nice Reliable Campground

Stayed here for one night.    Spaces are a little tight, but had our own patio and typical campground layout.    Lots of long timers.   Hosts/Owners were really nice and accommodating.   There was a Walmart and Lowes about 4 miles away and several convenience options.   There was a bit of road noise, but not too bad.

Lovely

Great campground for military, large level sites. Long term sites have covered patios. Full hookup, no wi fi. Laundry rooms, 1.00 to wash and dry, with efficient cycles. Lake with playground and large dog park. Exceptionally friendly staff. Quiet and we'll maintained. Shower rooms available, although have not used. You do hear planes going over but not too loud as some AFB's we've stayed at. Relvery plays at 6:30 am, Star Spangled Banner at 5:00pm, and TAPS at 9pm, not offensively loud, kinda like it. Would highly recommend and will be staying awhile great monthly rates. Great Verizon signal.

Peaceful.

Beautiful spot for hiding in the dark and peeking at other campers.

Fine for a quick overnight

This campsite is right off the interstate just south of Montgomery so it makes for a super convenient and easy stop overnight. The sites are close to level and are all (I think) pull throughs. They have the amenities needed and the grounds are well kept and it seems like they are still developing.

There’s nothing special about this stop except the convenience and fantastic customer service. We made our reservation last minute because of storms and Deborah was so kind and accommodating.

As this is right off the interstate you get the convenience of a truck stop for gas etc right there. But you also get a little interstate noise - didn’t bother us a bit. But there is also a train that runs nearby that I heard a few times.

All in all, a great spot for an overnight but not a destination.

Tip for travelers with kids: If you are trying to burn time with kids, the safari park is nearby and was a great way to burn some energy.

Quiet Spot

We stopped here overnight on a cross-country trip. Quiet placed tucked in the woods. Good dog walking paths.

Friendly staff

Very friendly staff, great long level sites and easy on/off access from I-65. Would highly recommend when coming to visit Montgomery!

I think that this is my favorite

Always enjoy Gunter Hill…plenty of space and scenery is good anytime of the year..we have been here several times..

Meeehhh

After a calling oak mountain state park and trying to make reservations, I was informed that we wouldn't need to make reservations that there was PLENTY of campsites. After loading up the suv Jam packed with 3 kids and a 100 lb dog in the summer heat and arriving at oak mountain we were told they were at capacity… Moving on…we needed a campsite and wanted to stay on the lake in Shelby.al. Last minute we found this place. They were very nice and accommodating and although we were grateful. It was kinda weird. once we arrived it wasn't at all what we expected. It wasn't a campground per say. It was about a acre of land maybe and there was about four campers( long term) sitting at the waters edge and thats it. It felt alot like we were in someone's front yard camping lol there was a few houses on both sides up and above us and it was just kinda strange and the people who let us stay there were as well. It was a older man and a younger girl who appeared to be very high strung. It was kinda shady to be honest kinda felt like we weren't supposed to be there and we paid them $20 and they left, came back once or twice while we were there just kinda strange idk anyways they were nice and accommodating. We cleaned the area up really nice for them and burned alot of the debris. It was still nice waking up to the sounds of the woods and water.
