Pattison State Park is home to Big Manitou Falls, the fourth-highest waterfall east of the Rockies at 165 feet, and the campground sits close enough that most sites are within a ten-minute walk of the cascade. The main campground loops feature drive-in sites that are flat, grassy, and generously sized. Pull-through configurations are available, though campers with RVs should note that parking straight through may leave the entry door facing the road with the fire pit and picnic table at the rear. Sites run $25 to $40 per night, with electric and sewer hookups available for rigs up to 45 feet.
Facilities here hold up well under scrutiny. Pit toilets are positioned close to most sites, and a shower house provides hot showers during the main season. Off-season visitors should plan accordingly since showers are shut off in the colder months. "Showers were hot and clean," notes Emily M., and multiple reviewers independently describe the restrooms as consistently maintained. Water fill stations are distributed throughout the campground. Cell coverage varies by carrier, with AT&T reportedly working well while other networks have struggled.
Three hike-in backpacking sites offer a different experience from the main loops. They require only a 1.5-mile walk and include fire rings, picnic tables, and vault toilets. The White Birch site sits near Little Manitou Falls, with access to boulders overlooking the water. One consistent note from multiple reviewers: trail marking at the start of the hike-in route is sparse, and Erin T. advises that "the trails aren't well marked." Checking in with the campground host on arrival helps clarify the trailhead. A beach and playground are also on-site, though the beach has seen closures tied to past flood damage.
The 2018 Father's Day flood caused significant damage across the park, and ongoing repairs have continued for several years since. Trail restoration, new shower facilities, and observation deck work have all been part of the recovery. The trail network is relatively limited in total mileage, which makes the park a good fit for a weekend stay but potentially thin on options for multi-day hikers. Reservations are accepted and make sense for summer weekends. Campers looking for sites around Pattison State Park or The Backyard at Amnicon Lake, roughly three miles to the southeast, can use either as a base for exploring the waterfall-rich corridor of northern Wisconsin.
