Best RV Parks & Resorts near Orting, WA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks near Orting, Washington provide full-hookup accommodations year-round. South Prairie Creek RV Park offers big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp electrical, water, and sewer connections. The park features level gravel pull-through rv pads with modest spacing between sites. "The owner Dwight is awesome and Jessie is fantastic. Grounds are very nice," noted one visitor about the staff and maintenance at this park. Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor maintains 102 RV sites with full hookups and can accommodate larger motorhomes, though spaces are positioned quite close together. Enumclaw Expo Center RV Park provides 50-amp electrical service and concrete motorhome sites, but restricts RVs older than 20 years according to visitor reports.

Reservations are essential for most parks in this area, particularly during summer months when Seattle-area travelers seek weekend escapes. Many facilities offer amenities beyond basic hookups, including laundry facilities, propane refill services, and sanitary dump stations. One camper mentioned that "water pressure challenges on hill, WiFi ok/slow" were issues at Gig Harbor's RV resort, highlighting the importance of bringing water pressure regulators when visiting parks in the region's hilly terrain. The proximity to Mount Rainier makes these parks popular staging areas for day trips, with several RV-friendly routes connecting the mountain's attractions to these valley locations. Access roads to most parks accommodate large rigs, though travelers should check individual park websites for specific length restrictions and turning radius requirements.

    Crystal Mountain RV Parking

Great base-camp for winter and summer adventures at Crystal Mountain Resort

Stayed here for the first time in July 2021.  I understand this opened last winter.  Talking to the host, I found out it is far more popular in winter when ski season is open. It was quiet and sparsely filled in July on a Friday and Saturday night.

3 different areas respectively for large RV and 50 amps power, small RVs and 30 amp and tent only area. A fee picnic tables (no benches) available toward the tent only area.  Bathroom are just two sani-cans. Relatively clean.  There is trash and recycling behind the office which is adjacent to the host RV.

Free WI-Fi (the host will give you code) and good LTE connection on AT&T.

Silver Creek runs behind the lot and gives a  bit more of a natural feel. Otherwise you are in a giant parking lot (Lot B).

Can't beat the location for skiing and hiking or biking at Crystal Mountain!

    Ike Kinswa State Park Campground

    Camping amongst the tall trees

This campground is on Mayfield Lake where the Cowlitz River flows into the lake. We were in loop D, which was the only open loop along with the cabins (cabins are loop C and attached to loop D). This is a partial hook-up loop. Full hook-ups are in loop A. The campground is heavily wooded which is really nice for shade, though it can make it tricky to get into a spot if you have slide outs. As we were on the outer part of the loop in a pull-through site, we had a view of the woods and quite a bit of space between neighboring sites. We could not see either of the neighboring sites while sitting by our campfire. There was a trail to the trash compactor next to our site, but it did not seem to be heavily used. The trash compactor is probably a good 1/4 mile down this trail by the dump station. It was very quiet at night, which was fantastic! Very good Verizon cell service. The day use area is out of the campground and across the main road. There is a playground and beach area. It would have been nice if there was a playground on the campground side of the park.

Cougar Rock Campground — Mount Rainier National Park

    Nice place

Nice campground on the SW corner of Mt Rainier NP. We were here in the off season, meaning that reservations are not taken and everything is FCFS. You stop at the ranger office at the campground entrance and you’re given a campsite. $20/night. Zero cell service in this whole area (but there was good cell reception and wifi at Paradise, and free wifi at the museum 2 miles down at Longmire).

There are water spigots at this campground, flush toilets, no showers, trash dumpsters, and glass, plastic, and aluminum recycling. Each site has a picnic table, bear box, and fire pit. The dump station has been non operational for several years and the ranger said she doesn’t think it’ll ever be fixed.

The length limit here is 35 ft for a motorhome, and us at 28 ft head to toe felt very big here. The Wonderland Trail hike can be accessed from this campground, just across the road. Lots of trees in this campground, and we struggled to keep our batteries charged via solar, though there looked to be enough open sky for starlink (we don’t have starlink so I can’t say). All the loops here in this campground are pretty similar in layout and landscape.

    Blue Sky RV Park

    Awesome park

We reserved a space for 1 night the day before. Great communication with Brett, everything went really smooth. The facilities are great and very clean, the park very quiet. There are a lot of big rigs parked there, some of the pm long-term as it seems. We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely visit again.

    Cedar Glen RV Park

great long-term or quick on the way

There are several long term campers here. The grounds are kept immaculate and they regularly update the sites.  They hang wreaths for the winter holidays. Lawns mowed weekly.

All are level gravel. All have grass area, some with patio pad. There is a dog walk area and they are currently creating a dog fenced area at the end orf the two rows.

A caretaker is on site and will often help guide rigs into the sites (all are back-in).

Close to Poulsbo (a cute, Norwegian heritage town), Seattle ferry via Bainbridge Island and just over an hour to the Olympic National Park via the Hood Canal Bridge.

    Riverbend Campground

    Nice campground with friendly staff

Interesting the other review was for a first time out with their travel trailer!  Same for us!

We got site 106 which was the furthest one out, it was right along the river.  The site has a concrete slab and fit our Jayco 174BH perfectly.

This site does is a back in, but the slab is at a 90 degree angle from the drive.  So you will have to back your trailer around a corner if you plan to park it on the slab.  Didn't see other sites like this.

The campground did have a very small selection of items to buy, but mainly snacks.  They do fill propane tanks, but only during week days.

The site had water and electrical, but no sewer connections.  they do have a nice dump station.

The camp ground itself did have at least 2 pet areas neither are fenced so a leash is required, along with a playground for the kids.

We have Verizon and had no issues with cell signal at this campground.

Also, this is a private campground, so they have a guy that stands at the gate to open it when guests come arrive.

    Elkamp Eastcreek

    Best place in Washington state

This is the cleanest, most cared for camping site I have ever been to. The owners Tom and Brian, make your stay very enjoyable. They care about you having a great experience, whether you’re a first time camper or a seasoned camper. They have a great store with snacks, wine, beer, and local sourced goods. They have games you can use while you are there, like corn hole and board and card games, free of charge. Sites are large for travel trailers and motor homes, they also have tent and group sites. Trailer and motor home sites have power and water, there is a dump station you can use on your way home free of charge. The bathrooms are large and very clean, the shower is 4 quarters for 6 minutes, those of us who try to take a 3 minute shower in our rigs so we don’t run through all the hot water so our partner can have a shower without waiting for the water to get hot again it’s a blessing. In the evening Tom or Brian drive through the park seeing if anyone needs ice or firewood, if there’s not a burn ban, bring a propane fire pit for your camping experience. They also sell propane so no fears on running out. The best thing is you are under a large canopy of trees which helps to keep you cool even on the hottest days. There is a small creek to put your chair in and put your feet in the water. Our first year there we brought 4 other people, this year it was 28. We make Elkcamp our yearly get together. Family friendly and a great place to unwind. You’re only a few miles from mineral lake, bring your trunks, inner tube, or your paddle boards. I’d give it a solid 10 out of 10.

    Kanaskat-Palmer State Park

Nice & quick camping option from Seattle

We stayed 1 night here for the maiden voyage of our recently purchased travel trailer, which was nice since it's only about an hour away from our place near Seattle. Arrived Friday early evening and it wasn't busy at all.

The check-in process was easy, even though their reservation system was down at the time. Filled up w/ some fresh water at the dump station, which was clean and well maintained.

Campsites in the RV loop were spaced out enough with vegetation between them so as to provide some privacy. Our site had a pull-through driveway, 30amp hookup, a fire ring and picnic table. Bathrooms in that loop were pretty nice... heated and very clean.

Took a walk down to the day use area by the river, which was easy for us, but some portions of the trails closer to the river were slightly overgrown w/ a few obstacles, which could be problematic for some. Didn't see any kids play structures down there, which would be nice to have for families.

We heard a couple trains while there, but the noise wasn't too loud. Never heard the fire siren that they warned us about. Overall, it was a good camping experience for a quick trip and would return!

Cougar Rock Campground — Mount Rainier National Park

    Stars, mountains, buglessness

Best stars you'll see all year if you go on a clear day (go in the summer)! You can see Mount Rainer during the day, and take day trips to hiking trails with mountains and waterfalls and even a gondola near the ski resort. RV friendly and dogs welcome at campsite (just not on trails). Running water, flush toilets, and fire pit available. Not many bugs, might might get cold at night. Ranger apprently does an info talk around 8pm. Book site in advance (fills up quickly). Will have to pay a national park fee to get in.

Guide to Orting

RV campgrounds near Orting, Washington provide convenient access to Mount Rainier National Park with most locations sitting at elevations between 400-700 feet. The area experiences mild summers with average July temperatures around 75°F and wet winters that typically receive 40+ inches of annual rainfall. Camping facilities in the region remain accessible year-round due to the moderate climate conditions.

What to do

Hiking trails access: Near Tall Chief Campground, visitors can reach multiple hiking options within a 15-minute drive. "It's super close to a lot of great spots around the Seattle region," notes one camper who appreciates the convenient location.

Coffee stops: Local coffee shops enhance camping mornings for those staying in Fall City. "It's super close (like 7 min drive) from one of my favorite coffee shops, Aroma Coffee Co. Try it! You won't be disappointed!" recommends a Tall Chief visitor.

Swimming and recreation: Angle Lake RV Park offers water activities during summer months. "Beautiful lake," mentions one visitor who found the park ideal for hosting out-of-town guests.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain well-kept bathroom and shower buildings. At Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor, one camper reported, "The facilities and grounds are clean and well cared for. I stayed for almost three weeks and it was quiet and relaxing, despite how close together the sites are."

Responsive management: Staff quality varies by location but receives frequent positive mentions. "Very friendly and helpful and wanting to please," writes one Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor visitor about the management team.

Dog-friendly options: Most RV parks accommodate pets with designated areas. "Pet friendly, but not many attractions for children (no playground, no pool)," notes one Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor reviewer, highlighting the pet amenities while mentioning the limitation for families with children.

What you should know

Age restrictions: Some parks limit older RVs. At Enumclaw Expo Center RV Park, "they don't allow drop-ins or vehicles older than 20 yrs," according to a recent visitor.

Site spacing challenges: Many parks position RVs close together. "The spaces are very close together, but there are a lot of trees," reports one camper at Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor, who still found their three-week stay "quiet and relaxing" despite the proximity.

Temporary stay limitations: Some locations restrict continuous stays. "After 29 days, we would have to leave for 3 days before we could come back," explains one camper who encountered policy issues at Washington Land Yacht Harbor.

Tips for camping with families

Amenity considerations: Not all RV parks offer family-focused features. "No playground, no pool," mentions a Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor visitor, suggesting families check facility details before booking.

Noise factors: Highway proximity affects some locations. At Issaquah Village RV Park, campers report being "200' from I-90," though one visitor found "ear plugs did a good job of quieting that noise enough for us to get a good sleep."

Budget-friendly options: Extended stays can offer value. "Stayed 3 months for work, perfect beautiful, CHEEP CHEEP, not too good to be true, just right. All hook ups included," shared one visitor about their experience at Tall Chief Campground.

Tips from RVers

Water management: Sites without sewer connections require planning. "Bring your dump tote!" advises one camper at Tall Chief Campground, adding there's an "easy easy easy dump station" for managing waste during longer stays.

Power considerations: Electrical service varies between parks and sites. At Majestic Mobile Manor & RV Park, one camper noted the "ridiculously small amount of space I had to maneuver my 33ft RV and my 8ft extended cab truck," highlighting the importance of checking site dimensions before arrival.

Cell reception planning: Tree cover affects connectivity at some campgrounds. "Arrive early so you can drive by all the sites while checking to make sure you have good reception if you need it," recommends a visitor at Tall Chief Campground, who found speeds varying from "120+ mbs download on AT&T in my site right now, but several sites down from me, it can dwindle down to 5mbs!"
