The nightly campground fee has increased to $30 at all standard campsites and $75 at all group sites.

Well laid out campground right in the heart of the park

Small, nicely laid out sites, although you are close together they are fairly well wooded, so you do get a bit of privacy. Just about every site in our loop was a pull-thru, although half of them technically faced the road, we were lucky enough to go on a very quiet rainy weekend. I wish I had a…

  • Technically the front of our camper was right on the road due to the way our site which position
  • plenty of clean restroom facilities with utility sinks and drinking water
  • Some of the sites are right next to large infrastructure for the campground

Opt for the non-generator loop!

Beautiful part of the SNP. I was unfortunately tent camping next to a loud RV, but that was my fault for booking the wrong site! Lovely hikes nearby.

Small tent sites with big noise

Stayed in tent site 005, and while it wasn’t the smallest of the tent sites or least private, if was very close to the main look road and every car entering the camp loop passes right by the site up the hill within eyesight. Camp store didn’t allow dogs, and I didn’t feel good leaving my dog…

Directions

Loft Mountain is located between the Rockfish Gap entrance station (Waynesboro, I-64) at the southern end of the Park, and the Swift Run Gap entrance station (Elkton, US 33). From Richmond, Virginia (via Rockfish Gap): travel west on Interstate 64 for approximately 87 miles, then take exit 99 and follow signs to Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Once on the Skyline Drive, head north approximately 25 miles to mile 79.5, where you will arrive at Loft Mountain Campground.
