    Mount Philo State Park Campground

    Hidden gem!

Great little campground at a beautiful state park. The campground had widely spaced wooded sites and was exceptionally quiet. Very well-maintained! Recommend nearby Charlotte town beach for swimming ($10 for non-residents).

    Indian Brook Reservoir

    Family of 4 tent camping

I mistakenly assumed they had drive up campsites. They do not. It was a 15 minute hike to the site, so pack light. If you have a kayak, you can transport your stuff over. Site was gorgeous and private, right on the reservoir. Really lovely setting!

    Shelburne Camping Area

    Oh My God. NO!

Electricity would not work. We got an error on our control panel that said stop! Power source is not correct! Dan, one of the owners, said that somebody must have tried to hook a 50 amp into the 30 amp. box. He went about a half block to check breaker said that it was not flipped but it was wobbling pretty loose in there.

My husband is a licensed electrician and of course had his own testing equipment. It showed 25 amp coming out of it. So he said move to spot 50. Well before we moved our vehicle, we went down there and checked it. He took off before we could. And guess what the exact same problem. We did not even hook into the second one. (#50)
So he proceeded to tell us that it was our equipment that had gone bad. Even though we never plugged into spot 50!

I had planned on one night thank God! He did refund our $52. we had to drive down the road and try to find someplace else at 7:00 in the evening. Another thank God, the Walmart about 10 or 15 miles down the road would allow overnight.

So we are now on our way to our next location which is about a 7 hour drive. We are just hoping that they did not damage our equipment. It has been extremely stressful if you go there you better watch out!

    Grand Isle State Park Campground

    Great family friendly park

What a lovely state park! We had a huge campsite that was comfortable for 3 tents and 6 adults. The restrooms/showers are vintage but clean and functional. Showers are coin operated. It was a quiet, family friendly campground with a cute little beach and nature center with youth programs. The only small drawback is that the water front sites are overgrown with trees on the other side of a fence. You could see the water in some parts but not all of the site. Overall- a great place!

    Little River State Park Campground

    Tranquil

Stopped by midweek without reservation after vehicle issues forced a stop by the nearby shops in Barre/Berlin. Very peaceful with ample hammock spots. They sell wood stacked in cribs, wish I'd planned for that as I ended up using my only towel to haul it. Good price on the wood, though.

I'd come back here if it were just to quietly meditate or read or something, but don't know if there's much to do. I didn't experience the same issues others did with bathroom as some other reviews and surprised to learn there are campers who require a full kitchen sink- I just use a couple of rags.

Bottom line, a lovely but unmemorable stay.

    Ausable Point Campground

    Don’t GO

People at check in are incredibly rude and dismissive. Showed up late after driving all day as walk ins(have driven all the way across the country staying in campgrounds and state park campgrounds as walkins and have never had a problem) and they turned us away. It’s almost 10 pm, they had spots open and they wouldn’t let us in. We went back a second time to plead for a spot after not being able to find any other place to stay in the vicinity and they laughed at us. Incredibly rude and unprofessional staff.

    Valcour Island

    Valcour Island

I've camped on Valcour all my life since I was 7. It was amazing. So beautiful. Now it's covered in cockroaches and the water is murky and everything is covered in Zebra muscles. Other campers are rude and have no respect for your property. Has been all Canadians from my experience. They let their pets on the island to defecate and we've had one let their two large dogs swim ashore from their yacht and urinate on all our tents and destroyed our campsite and stole our food off from the picnic table all while the owners watched and laughed it off from their boat. The dogs then swam back and boarded the boat and they left. It's not like it used to be. We were yelling at them the whole time, trying to get the dogs away from our campsite and the owners didn't even apologize. One of the dogs defecated on my son's clothing that has fallen off the line.
