Dixie Creek Campground — East Canyon State Park

A good example of how government campsites should be done

Overall, the facility is neat and clean for a campground. My visit was at the end of the 4th weekend, so some messes were expected. My campsite was in good shape upon setting up my 30ft trailer. All sites are back-in and mostly flat asphalt. A little rig leveling might be needed. The outside of the loop at Dixie C.G. is electric and water only. The inside of the loop has full hook-ups.

All sites have long, sturdy metal tables and a metal cover over a concrete pad. A fire pit was adjacent. Even with fire restrictions almost everywhere else in Utah, wood fires were permitted in the provided pit. Common area toilets are well maintained, containing flush toilets and running water. Most service buildings also contain free showers.

A one-star deduction is due to the effects of climate change, which is out of the Park's control to an extent. That said, my beef is with maintenance of the beach - a nice beach by the way. It's obvious where the historical water level use to be. Wish I could have seen the reservoir full because it may never happen again. But I digress. I think the park should rake or scrape the beach surface to remove offensive weeds and people's discards. That takes workers, budget and equipment. My guess is our State representatives lack interest to fund state parks for such mediation measures. It would greatly enhance the visual appeal and safety for families at the water's edge.

    Immaculately maintained campground

We stayed for only one night, but I would come back here in a heartbeat! Big, clean bathrooms with running water, mirrors, flushing toilets, & hot showers. Gorgeous view of the lake - you can walk right down to the water from your site. Super friendly staff. Tent pads are all level and maintained after each camper. Has all the other essentials- clean picnic table, big clean fire pit, and a charcoal grill.

Dixie Creek Campground — East Canyon State Park

    Decent water destination!

We went during the summer and had a great time. The views were perfect and the lake is active with choice of water fun rentals. The site is standard with a small lawn area and a pavilion. Bathrooms are onsite as well as showers. Pet friendly but need to be on a leash at all times. Great for RV’s as power and water is present on each site.

    Mountain Valley RV Resort, Utah

One of our all time favorite RV parks. Located in beautiful Heber City, Utah. We felt at home as soon as we arrived and were greeted by a nice man on a golf cart who lead us to where we’d be staying. There is an adult only section if you’re looking for peace and quiet away from kids. The concrete was level and spacious, each with its own picnic table.

They have two dog parks, one of which is the nicest and largest one we’ve seen thus far. The laundry room was sparkling clean and located adjacent to the pickle ball courts and outdoor fire pits. They have an on-site RV wash available and allowed us to borrow an adaptor from them at no charge. We enjoyed an evening in their hot tub/spa. They also have a large pool area near the bathrooms that were the most well maintained bathrooms we’ve ever used on the road. To top it all off, they have a gorgeous fitness center with weights, a treadmill and elliptical available to all guests.

Overall we were extremely impressed with all amenities and the customer service provided at Mountain Valley RV Resort and would recommend it highly to anyone visiting the area.

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

    Mountain Valley RV Resort

    Clean and Cozy

We only stayed at Mountain View for one night while passing through, but we enjoyed our stay. The office staff was super friendly. Mark came out on a cart to usher us to our site. He was helpful and provided wonderful advice for the rest of our trip in Utah (Moab). The sites are a bit close, but the campground was quiet and clean.

Our girls enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The laundry facilities were nice and even had a designated machine for pet laundry. The restrooms and showers were private and clean. The water pressure was high and temp was hot. There was a beautiful fire pit near the pool along with pickle ball and basketball courts.

This facility is near the highway but the road noise wasn’t a problem for us.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Hailstone - Upper Fisher Campground — Jordanelle State Park

    Great camping spot!

The state park was great! The campsite was great! Very clean and well kept! Also dog friendly,, so that was good, they had a doggy poop bag station by the the people bathroom! We stayed in D Loop close to the water! Our spot had a cement pad with a picnic table, a fire ring, a grill! The tent pad was nice! The bathrooms were close and very well kept! They were cleaned every day! The showers were nice and there were several of them! The only negative thing was it was close to the highway so we could hear the cars driving at night!

Guide to Sandy

Cabin accommodations near Sandy, Utah provide convenient access to outdoor recreation within 30-45 minutes of the Salt Lake City area. Nestled between the Wasatch Mountains and Utah Lake, these cabins sit at elevations ranging from 4,500 to 7,000 feet. Seasonal temperature variations are significant, with summer daytime highs often reaching 90°F while winter temperatures frequently drop below freezing at higher elevation sites.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: East Canyon State Park offers cabin stays with easy lake access. "We enjoyed the sunrise over the lake and watching wildlife. We were able to spot many species of birds as well as deer, sheep, & prairie dogs," reports Kalli W. about Big Rock Campground.

Mountain biking trails: Cabin visitors at Wasatch Mountain State Park can access nearby trail systems. "It's close to 2 reservoirs, tons of dirt bike and side by side trails, and Heber city. There's also a few group sites with pavilions," notes David T. about Pine Creek Campground.

Winter activities: Several cabin locations operate year-round for cold weather access to snow sports. "Given how close it is to the city, Tanners Flat has always been a little too busy for our family during the full swing of summer. September/early October gives cooler temperatures and less crowds, and we got to see some lovely fall colors," shares Sara M.

What campers like

Hot springs access: Cabins near Heber City provide base camps for exploring natural springs. "Very convenient to great recreation areas. The staff is fantastic and super helpful," says John G. about River's Edge at Heber Valley.

Wildlife viewing: Many cabin locations offer opportunities to see native animals. "An amazing place to kick back, relax, and hangout with bison. They walk up and graze through the campsites which is a beautiful thing to wake up to," writes John C. about Bridger Bay Campground.

Proximity to attractions: Most cabin rentals around Sandy provide easy access to both wilderness and urban amenities. "Convenient location right off the highway with full hook ups and nice paved sites. Dog areas, playground, games, and a pool. Easy access to the Jordan River Trail for running, biking, or sunset walks," notes cheriana G.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Most cabin sites fill quickly during peak season. "It can be tricky to get a spot here in the summer. Make sure to call ahead!" advises Joseph L. about Tanners Flat.

Water restrictions: Watershed regulations affect activities at some cabin locations. "NO Dogs allowed in the canyon - it is a watershed. Very popular spot for locals to day trip or weekend trip," explains Andrea P.

Site specifications: Cabin facilities and amenities vary significantly between locations. "This campground has 3 loops. 1 for tents, 1 for medium size trailers. 1 for large trailers. Check the website or call the guard station before booking to double check," recommends David T.

Seasonal pests: Some locations experience insect issues during specific months. "Lovely scenery, water is currently off so no showers but has a clean pit toilet. Only downside was the no see um flys you can't for a walk without getting swarmed by them and bitten. Best to visit in the autumn when the flys have gone," warns Georgia L.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Look for cabin locations with dedicated play spaces. "This is a big campground but the sites are pretty private....separated by giant bushes. Not one of my favorites, but the proximity to Park City is key. Facilities are clean," notes Stefanie I.

Kid-friendly amenities: Several cabin sites offer additional attractions for children. "We pulled in later in the evening with no reservation and was able to find a spot with full hook-ups for our camper. It was a nice campground, well maintained and pretty! Nice paved paths for our kiddos to right their scooters and fun water activities available to the kids for free (water bounce house etc)," shares susanna R. about Big Rock Campground.

Swimming options: Many cabin locations offer water recreation. "My family and I have been coming here for years. It has a lot of trailer spots that are almost all pull throughs and have hook ups. It's fun to bring kayaks and float the river," says Jake V. about Echo Island RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Hookup considerations: Full-service cabins often provide similar amenities to RV sites. "Like others have said…if you want space to spread out this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a place that is convenient, full hook up, level concrete pads, subdivision desperate house wife's camping addition this is the place to be!" explains Cole A.

Off-season advantages: Shoulder season cabin stays offer better availability and rates. "September/early October gives cooler temperatures and less crowds, and we got to see some lovely fall colors. The camp hosts were excellent as well. As SLC natives, we're making this our yearly fall tradition!" recommends Sara M.

Space limitations: Some cabin sites have tighter spacing than dispersed camping options. "This is a pretty decent park. There are a lot of amenities, clean facilities, and concrete pads. The sites are pretty close together so if you like your space, this probably isn't the best place," warns Nicole B. about Pony Express RV Resort.
