What to do
Fishing and boating at Yuba State Park: The lake at Palisade State Park Campground offers excellent fishing from shore or boat. "Great rec area including a playground. Bathrooms well maintained and pedal boat and other boat rentals. Plenty of fish to catch off the shore or in a boat," notes Matt L.
ATV trail access: The Orange Olsen cabins provide direct trail access. "The ATV trails are endless and right out the driveway is access to Skyline Drive AKA God's Country. Fishing is good at Joe's spring and fall," explains Steven G., who stayed at the Orange Olsen cabins.
Mountain biking near Sterling: Trails around Palisade State Park offer good terrain for mountain biking. "We really love the lake and all the little trails we could mountain bike on! Good place for families or big groups to come to," shares Brittley A.
What campers like
Quiet settings away from highways: Several cabin locations provide peaceful surroundings. "This place is a great place to camp if you have one of the single or double site next to lake. There is plenty of grass and great facilities," reports Kurt C. about Palisade State Park Campground.
Clean, well-maintained facilities: Hygiene facilities receive high marks. "Had very clean restrooms and showers. Lots of amenities like a playground and volleyball net," according to Rayna D. who stayed at Heritage Grove Campground.
Larger cabins for groups: Several properties offer cabins suitable for extended families. "The Dwelling is large enough to hold a really big family or two couples with small children," notes a visitor about Orange Olsen cabins.
What you should know
Seasonal closures affect availability: Winter cabin options are limited in the Fairview area. "We stayed here a weekend to get in some mountain biking in nearby Price. Everything in the park is immaculate, and very well maintained," notes Aaron about Castle Gate RV Park, which offers year-round cabin rentals.
Temperature fluctuations: Evening temperatures drop significantly even in summer. "In April, still a bit chilling in the evening/morning. Warmed up nicely in the afternoon," reports a Castle Gate visitor.
Water conditions vary seasonally: Algae blooms occasionally affect water activities. "There was an algae bloom that made lake hazardous, so we kept dogs away from the water," notes Edward R. about Yuba State Park.
Space considerations: Cabin sizes vary significantly between properties. "The cabin is pretty small but large enough for a family of four," explains Steven G. about Orange Olsen's accommodations.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Several parks offer dedicated children's play areas. "There is a splash area for the kids to beat the heat and a place to play horseshoe," mentions Tonymac P. about Castle Gate RV Park.
Swimming options: Pools provide alternatives to lake swimming. "Clean restrooms and showers. Great swimming pool. Beautiful camp sites. Easy to find. Quick drive to small town eats and even a drive inn movie theater," shares Curtis H. about Manti - La Sal KOA.
Entertainment amenities: Some properties offer additional recreation options. "The place had friendly staff and was clean. Had some fun things for kids like a pool and a bowling alley," notes Brian P. about the Springville/Provo KOA.
Tips from RVers
Site leveling challenges: Prepare with leveling blocks at certain locations. "The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because some of the sites aren't level and are pretty close to each other. I had to use 3 yellow square leveling blocks on the left side," explains Kenyon at Manti - La Sal KOA.
Internet connectivity: WiFi quality varies significantly between properties. "The WiFi actually extends throughout the campground thanks to access points all through the property," notes Steven M. about Castle Gate RV Park.
Road and rail noise: Some properties experience transportation noise. "There is a set of train tracks nearby so that may matter if you're a light sleeper. I didn't wake up to any trains so they may not go through at night," shares Fnu L.
