Jordanelle State Park's Hailstone campground features cabins with picnic tables and fire rings, providing views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains. "Very nice campground is clean, well laid out and very well kept. The grounds are pretty with grass and trees between each parking pad. River's Edge at Heber Valley includes fire pits and picnic tables at each cabin site. On-site camp stores at several locations, including Mountain Valley RV Resort and Pony Express RV Resort, stock essential supplies, firewood, and basic groceries. Larger grocery stores can be found in Heber City, Midway, and Springville for more extensive provisioning. Visitors staying at cabins should check specific amenity lists when booking to ensure they pack appropriate supplies for their stay.

Dixie Creek Campground — East Canyon State Park

A good example of how government campsites should be done

Overall, the facility is neat and clean for a campground. My visit was at the end of the 4th weekend, so some messes were expected. My campsite was in good shape upon setting up my 30ft trailer. All sites are back-in and mostly flat asphalt. A little rig leveling might be needed. The outside of the loop at Dixie C.G. is electric and water only. The inside of the loop has full hook-ups.

All sites have long, sturdy metal tables and a metal cover over a concrete pad. A fire pit was adjacent. Even with fire restrictions almost everywhere else in Utah, wood fires were permitted in the provided pit. Common area toilets are well maintained, containing flush toilets and running water. Most service buildings also contain free showers.

A one-star deduction is due to the effects of climate change, which is out of the Park's control to an extent. That said, my beef is with maintenance of the beach - a nice beach by the way. It's obvious where the historical water level use to be. Wish I could have seen the reservoir full because it may never happen again. But I digress. I think the park should rake or scrape the beach surface to remove offensive weeds and people's discards. That takes workers, budget and equipment. My guess is our State representatives lack interest to fund state parks for such mediation measures. It would greatly enhance the visual appeal and safety for families at the water's edge.

    Immaculately maintained campground

We stayed for only one night, but I would come back here in a heartbeat! Big, clean bathrooms with running water, mirrors, flushing toilets, & hot showers. Gorgeous view of the lake - you can walk right down to the water from your site. Super friendly staff. Tent pads are all level and maintained after each camper. Has all the other essentials- clean picnic table, big clean fire pit, and a charcoal grill.

Dixie Creek Campground — East Canyon State Park

    Decent water destination!

We went during the summer and had a great time. The views were perfect and the lake is active with choice of water fun rentals. The site is standard with a small lawn area and a pavilion. Bathrooms are onsite as well as showers. Pet friendly but need to be on a leash at all times. Great for RV’s as power and water is present on each site.

    Mountain Valley RV Resort

    Mountain Valley RV Resort, Utah

One of our all time favorite RV parks. Located in beautiful Heber City, Utah. We felt at home as soon as we arrived and were greeted by a nice man on a golf cart who lead us to where we’d be staying. There is an adult only section if you’re looking for peace and quiet away from kids. The concrete was level and spacious, each with its own picnic table.

They have two dog parks, one of which is the nicest and largest one we’ve seen thus far. The laundry room was sparkling clean and located adjacent to the pickle ball courts and outdoor fire pits. They have an on-site RV wash available and allowed us to borrow an adaptor from them at no charge. We enjoyed an evening in their hot tub/spa. They also have a large pool area near the bathrooms that were the most well maintained bathrooms we’ve ever used on the road. To top it all off, they have a gorgeous fitness center with weights, a treadmill and elliptical available to all guests.

Overall we were extremely impressed with all amenities and the customer service provided at Mountain Valley RV Resort and would recommend it highly to anyone visiting the area.

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

    Mountain Valley RV Resort

    Clean and Cozy

We only stayed at Mountain View for one night while passing through, but we enjoyed our stay. The office staff was super friendly. Mark came out on a cart to usher us to our site. He was helpful and provided wonderful advice for the rest of our trip in Utah (Moab). The sites are a bit close, but the campground was quiet and clean.

Our girls enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The laundry facilities were nice and even had a designated machine for pet laundry. The restrooms and showers were private and clean. The water pressure was high and temp was hot. There was a beautiful fire pit near the pool along with pickle ball and basketball courts.

This facility is near the highway but the road noise wasn’t a problem for us.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Hailstone - Upper Fisher Campground — Jordanelle State Park

    Great camping spot!

The state park was great! The campsite was great! Very clean and well kept! Also dog friendly,, so that was good, they had a doggy poop bag station by the the people bathroom! We stayed in D Loop close to the water! Our spot had a cement pad with a picnic table, a fire ring, a grill! The tent pad was nice! The bathrooms were close and very well kept! They were cleaned every day! The showers were nice and there were several of them! The only negative thing was it was close to the highway so we could hear the cars driving at night!

Guide to Draper

Cabin camping near Draper, Utah offers visitors access to diverse lodging options amid the Wasatch Mountains. Located approximately 20 miles south of Salt Lake City at elevations ranging from 4,500 to 6,000 feet, the area experiences warm summer days with cool evenings and significant seasonal temperature variations. Most cabin locations remain accessible year-round, though winter visits may require snow-capable vehicles during storm periods.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The Jordanelle Reservoir provides productive fishing spots near cabin accommodations. "Great fishing! We catch something every time we go. Fully paved area, so no need to worry about clearance or bad conditions," reports Derek E. about Hailstone - Upper Fisher Campground.

Local wildlife viewing: Cabins at Wasatch Mountain State Park serve as excellent bases for nature observation. "My family and I just love this campground! We come at least twice a year. Close to fishing pond, play area for kids, beautiful golf courses, hikes, Midway/Heber cities, fishing rivers and beautiful drives up the mountains for more exploring," notes Aaron G. about Pine Creek Campground.

Hiking access: Little Cottonwood Canyon offers cabin options with trail proximity. "Tanners flat is a close trip up Little Cottonwood Canyon. NO Dogs allowed in the canyon- it is a watershed. Very popular spot for locals to day trip or weekend trip," explains Andrea P. about the regulations at this mountain location.

What campers like

Proximity to Park City: Many cabin locations provide convenient access to Park City attractions. "Great campsite. Clean and nice amenities for a State Park. Be careful hooking up your RV to water. Very high pressure," advises Trevor S. about Hailstone Campground's location advantage.

Recreation diversity: River's Edge cabins offer multiple activity options on-site. "The grounds are so well-maintained. We have two dogs and there's lots of grass for them to play in. We don't have children but there's a very nice playground and small pond where they can fish - catch and release," notes CJ L. about River's Edge at Heber Valley.

Seasonal beauty: Fall visits provide special visual appeal at cabin locations. "Given how close it is to the city, Tanners Flat has always been a little too busy for our family during the full swing of summer. September/early October gives cooler temperatures and less crowds, and we got to see some lovely fall colors. The camp hosts were excellent as well," shares Sara M.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Cabins book quickly, especially during peak season. "It can be tricky to get a spot here in the summer. Make sure to call ahead!" advises Joseph L. about securing accommodations at popular locations.

Pet restrictions: Not all cabin areas permit pets due to watershed regulations. "Tanners flat is a close trip up Little Cottonwood Canyon. NO Dogs allowed in the canyon- it is a watershed," emphasizes Andrea P., highlighting important restrictions.

Seasonal limitations: Winter access varies by location. "I booked a double site here for the first time, and they are beautiful. I enjoyed the location, the space, and my whole family did as well! There was some garbage in the fire pit when we arrived, but other than that it was fantastic. Soap and water with flushing toilets, etc.," reports Heather K. about Tanners Flat facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Accessible recreation: Several cabin locations feature family-friendly amenities. "This campground has 3 loops. 1 for tents, 1 for medium size trailers, 1 for large trailers. Check the website or call the guard station before booking to double check. It's close to 2 reservoirs, tons of dirt bike and side by side trails, and Heber city. There's also a few group sites with pavilions," details David T. about facilities at Pine Creek Campground.

Pool access: Some cabin locations include swimming options. "They had a small pond for kids to fish in, two swimming pools and two hot tubs, very clean and modern facilities, well maintained campsites with fire pit, a cute little shop with firewood, treats, and other necessities and they have dvds and sports equipment you can check out," describes Carlee G. about amenities at Echo Island RV Resort.

Playground facilities: Multiple cabin locations include play areas. "This is a big campground but the sites are pretty private, separated by giant bushes. Not one of my favorites, but the proximity to Park City is key. Facilities are clean," notes Stefanie I. about the layout considerations at Pine Creek Campground.

Tips from RVers

Hookup quality: Utility connections vary significantly between cabin locations. "This campground is pretty, but it is not for family camping with a tent. This campground has pull-through areas for people towing camping trailers, but not much for those that want to set up a full-size tent and lounge around outside," cautions Jason H. about site configurations.

Spacing considerations: Site size varies considerably between locations. "Sites are clean and nice with showers and restrooms. The space was huge," reports Fande Z. about their experience at Pine Creek Campground.

Utility access: Water pressure issues exist at some locations. "Great campsite. Clean and nice amenities for a State Park. Be careful hooking up your RV to water. Very high pressure," warns Trevor S. about Pony Express RV Resort hookup considerations.
