Dixie Creek Campground — East Canyon State Park

A good example of how government campsites should be done

Overall, the facility is neat and clean for a campground. My visit was at the end of the 4th weekend, so some messes were expected. My campsite was in good shape upon setting up my 30ft trailer. All sites are back-in and mostly flat asphalt. A little rig leveling might be needed. The outside of the loop at Dixie C.G. is electric and water only. The inside of the loop has full hook-ups.

All sites have long, sturdy metal tables and a metal cover over a concrete pad. A fire pit was adjacent. Even with fire restrictions almost everywhere else in Utah, wood fires were permitted in the provided pit. Common area toilets are well maintained, containing flush toilets and running water. Most service buildings also contain free showers.

A one-star deduction is due to the effects of climate change, which is out of the Park's control to an extent. That said, my beef is with maintenance of the beach - a nice beach by the way. It's obvious where the historical water level use to be. Wish I could have seen the reservoir full because it may never happen again. But I digress. I think the park should rake or scrape the beach surface to remove offensive weeds and people's discards. That takes workers, budget and equipment. My guess is our State representatives lack interest to fund state parks for such mediation measures. It would greatly enhance the visual appeal and safety for families at the water's edge.

    Immaculately maintained campground

We stayed for only one night, but I would come back here in a heartbeat! Big, clean bathrooms with running water, mirrors, flushing toilets, & hot showers. Gorgeous view of the lake - you can walk right down to the water from your site. Super friendly staff. Tent pads are all level and maintained after each camper. Has all the other essentials- clean picnic table, big clean fire pit, and a charcoal grill.

    Decent water destination!

We went during the summer and had a great time. The views were perfect and the lake is active with choice of water fun rentals. The site is standard with a small lawn area and a pavilion. Bathrooms are onsite as well as showers. Pet friendly but need to be on a leash at all times. Great for RV’s as power and water is present on each site.

    Mountain Valley RV Resort, Utah

One of our all time favorite RV parks. Located in beautiful Heber City, Utah. We felt at home as soon as we arrived and were greeted by a nice man on a golf cart who lead us to where we’d be staying. There is an adult only section if you’re looking for peace and quiet away from kids. The concrete was level and spacious, each with its own picnic table.

They have two dog parks, one of which is the nicest and largest one we’ve seen thus far. The laundry room was sparkling clean and located adjacent to the pickle ball courts and outdoor fire pits. They have an on-site RV wash available and allowed us to borrow an adaptor from them at no charge. We enjoyed an evening in their hot tub/spa. They also have a large pool area near the bathrooms that were the most well maintained bathrooms we’ve ever used on the road. To top it all off, they have a gorgeous fitness center with weights, a treadmill and elliptical available to all guests.

Overall we were extremely impressed with all amenities and the customer service provided at Mountain Valley RV Resort and would recommend it highly to anyone visiting the area.

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

    Mountain Valley RV Resort

    Clean and Cozy

We only stayed at Mountain View for one night while passing through, but we enjoyed our stay. The office staff was super friendly. Mark came out on a cart to usher us to our site. He was helpful and provided wonderful advice for the rest of our trip in Utah (Moab). The sites are a bit close, but the campground was quiet and clean.

Our girls enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The laundry facilities were nice and even had a designated machine for pet laundry. The restrooms and showers were private and clean. The water pressure was high and temp was hot. There was a beautiful fire pit near the pool along with pickle ball and basketball courts.

This facility is near the highway but the road noise wasn’t a problem for us.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Hailstone - Upper Fisher Campground — Jordanelle State Park

    Great camping spot!

The state park was great! The campsite was great! Very clean and well kept! Also dog friendly,, so that was good, they had a doggy poop bag station by the the people bathroom! We stayed in D Loop close to the water! Our spot had a cement pad with a picnic table, a fire ring, a grill! The tent pad was nice! The bathrooms were close and very well kept! They were cleaned every day! The showers were nice and there were several of them! The only negative thing was it was close to the highway so we could hear the cars driving at night!

Guide to Cedar Valley

Camping cabins near Cedar Valley, Utah offer diverse options within moderate driving distance. The area sits at the western edge of Utah County at an elevation of approximately 5,500 feet, with surrounding mountains reaching over 7,000 feet. Summer temperatures typically range from 50°F at night to 90°F during day, making cabin camping comfortable throughout the main season.

What to do

Fish nearby waters: At Jordanelle State Park, visitors access both shoreline fishing and boat rentals. "The fishing is really good too. We catch something every time we go. Fully paved area, so no need to worry about clearance or bad conditions," notes Derek E.

Hike mountain trails: Multiple hiking paths connect to cabin areas throughout the region. At Tanners Flat, "nearby attractions include Lisa Falls, Cecret Lake and numerous summertime activities at Snowbird and Alta ski resorts. During the summer at Snowbird there are summer slides kind of like dry bobsleds," according to Alan B.

Visit local wildlife: Antelope Island provides unique wildlife viewing opportunities near cabin accommodations. "This place is weird and awesome. There's bison roaming around, badgers, and tons of great birds to watch. There's some really cool stuff scattered along the beach along the Salt Lake," shares Kaila R.

What campers like

Private bathrooms: The most appreciated cabin amenity is individual bathroom facilities. At Mountain Valley RV Resort, visitors value "nice big private restrooms with showers, two laundry facilities, two hot tubs and two pools, basketball and other gaming courts, BBQs and fire pits," according to Zoe M.

Seasonal activities: Fall cabin camping offers unique experiences with changing colors. Sara M. from Tanners Flat notes, "September/early October gives cooler temperatures and less crowds, and we got to see some lovely fall colors. The camp hosts were excellent as well. As SLC natives, we're making this our yearly fall tradition!"

Location convenience: Pine Creek Campground offers centralized access to various recreation options. Aaron G. explains, "Close to fishing pond, play area for kids, beautiful golf courses, hikes, Midway/Heber cities, fishing rivers and beautiful drives up the mountains for more exploring."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin facilities fill quickly, especially during holidays. Jason H. says, "There are 31 single sites, 3 doubles, and 3 group campsites. The single sites are $23 a night and be sure to make your reservation early as you are unlikely to get a walk in."

Bathroom closures: During certain periods, facility access may be limited. At River's Edge at Heber Valley, Muriel W. experienced: "Called in the morning to make a same day reservation. They have closed the restrooms as a COVID precaution and are requiring everyone to have a self contained bathroom/shower."

Site spacing concerns: Cabin and RV placement can impact privacy. "The spaces are very close together," notes Jacci R. at River's Edge. Similarly, at Mountain Valley RV Resort, Shariah T. observed: "The RVs were really close together and it's hard to get any privacy. However it's CLEAN, we felt comfortable but we like our privacy when we camp."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Facilities with supervised play areas rate highest among families. At Pony Express RV Resort, Derek E. notes, "There are several different amenities including a pool, playground for the kids, life-size chessboard, and a mini-breed dog park!"

Multi-pool facilities: Properties with separate adult and family swimming areas provide added value. Brian C. at Pony Express RV Resort shares, "The facility is spotless! Seriously, the staff keep the entire grounds in great condition. There are dozens and dozens of spots that fit just about any size RV or 5th wheel."

Fall camping benefits: Seasonal cabin camping offers additional advantages for families. "Given how close it is to the city, Tanners Flat has always been a little too busy for our family during the full swing of summer. After finally staying here, we realized the views and proximity to hikes makes it well worth it!" explains Sara M.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Most cabin sites also accommodate RVs with varying hookup options. At Echo Island RV Resort, Alice P. found "gravel slots, picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Good park design for the back up sites to get a large trailer situated no problem."

Seasonal conditions: Weather impacts cabin and RV camping differently throughout the year. Carlee G. mentions Echo Island offers "two swimming pools and two hot tubs, very clean and modern facilities, well maintained campsites with fire pit, a cute little shop with firewood, treats, and other necessities and they have dvds and sports equipment you can check out."

Site spacing: RV sites vary significantly in size and privacy. Christopher W. notes about River's Edge, "Nice place with trees and large play areas for kids. On-site liquor store. RV spaces kinda closely packed but still big enough to get our awning out. Camp sits at the base of the dam."
