Best Cabin Camping near Stamford, TX

Several cabin camping options exist within driving distance of Stamford, Texas, with varying levels of amenities and comfort. Lake Stamford Marina offers mobile homes for rent with full hookups, situated close to the water. The Abilene KOA, located about 40 miles south, provides cabin rentals that operate year-round with basic amenities including electricity and climate control. Abilene RV Park and Northside RV Ranch & Camp in Seymour also feature cabin accommodations with electric hookups. Most cabins include access to shared bathroom facilities with showers and toilets. According to one visitor at Abilene KOA, "We stayed in cabins and had a good time while we were there," though they noted the management was "strict" regarding rules.

Rustic cabins and more furnished options are available depending on the location and price point. The KOA cabins typically include beds, electricity, and climate control but require guests to bring their own linens and personal items. Pet policies vary by location, with Lake Stamford Marina and Abilene KOA both allowing pets in designated areas. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during summer months and holidays when, as one Lake Stamford Marina visitor noted, "It's really busy during holiday peak times." Cabin rates fluctuate seasonally, with some locations charging additional fees for amenities or services. Highway noise can be an issue at the Abilene KOA, which sits adjacent to Interstate 20.

Most cabin rentals provide basic furniture but limited cooking facilities. Visitors should plan to bring bedding, towels, cooking equipment, and food supplies. On-site stores exist at some locations, with Lake Stamford Marina featuring "a store that was pretty well stocked," according to one camper. However, the nearest gas stations and full grocery options may be several miles away. Cabins with electricity typically offer heating and air conditioning, essential during Texas summers. Bathroom facilities are generally shared unless staying in premium cabin options. Water access is available at all locations, though quality and convenience may vary.

    Lake Stamford Marina

    Country Living at the Lake

The sites are located close to the water with full-hook ups available. Most spots are gravel but depending on lake level some spots now have grass. The better sites have their own covered picnic tables. Some sites have tree with shade closer spot to the water do not any trees or picnic tables. There is store on site however the nearest gas station is a few miles out. There is also mobile home to rent out and they do allow for rent camping. Pets allowed but there is no designated area so must be picked up after. It’s really busy during holiday peak times when we went but it wasn’t as bad as most lakes in the area. Pull through spots are available and some spots are park as you choose. This place isn’t a resort has all amenities but it is right by the water and if you have a boat it’s not a short distance to dock.

    Two things I love:

    1. It is right by the water
    2. The store was pretty well stocked

One thing I didn’t love: Some areas are park as you can fit and not paved or gravel.

    Abilene KOA

An OK place for an overnight

This is not by any stretch a good campground.  That said, it is right by I-20 (you can hear the traffic) and there are not very many alternatives in the area.  This KOA has quite a few permanent residents (old campers with stairs and decks...) which, in my mind, gives it a little "creepy" feel.  The sites are gravel and are reasonably level, conducive to not unhooking for the night.  Not all sites have fire rings.  Some sites do not have the table on gravel but on grass.

We will stay here again--if we have no other choice.

    Lake Stamford Marina

    Not worth the price

Their website says $35 a night, but it was actually $70 per night, plus $20 to use "dump station".

Site is just a picnic table you park next to. Electricity on end and water on the other, not together. My hose barley reached. The electric box was super janky, no breaker, and had exposed wires. I was nervous about plugging in my trailer.  The water faucet had no handle. I had to use a pair of plyers to turn the valve to get water on.

The "dump station" is not your normal PVC pipe sticking up from the ground. Its a large cement dome, with a cut out door on top. The sewage was about 3 inches from the top, and when I opened the door, I immediately shut it, it was so degusting.

The only good thing about this site was it was near the water. No where near worth the $90 I spent.

There is a much, nice and cheaper campsite on the other side of the lake. Dont waste your money here.

    Close to town

We stayed here many years ago for a reunion close by, the owner/park host was not a rule bender at all and was strict. We stayed in cabins and had a good time while we were there.

    Abilene KOA

    Single-worst RV Experiene EVER

We booked an extended stay at this KOA while my husband worked in the area. Big mistake. When we arrived, the park was run by a kind, professional couple who soon disappeared— and now we see why. The current manager, Diana Postma, is shockingly rude, unprofessional, and unfit to run a campground. All of the issues started simply because we asked about an unexpected$100 rate increase. Rather than explain, she completely lost control— yelling at my husband and telling us to leave if we didn’t like it. From that moment on, she seemed focused on making our stay miserable. She tried to pile on additional fees, including charging for our kids even though we own our RV, pay site rent, and cover our own utilities. The worst part? She had my husband’s work truck towed out of pure spite. She knew it was ours— she even called our neighbor first, and he told her it belonged to us. But instead of calling us, she had it removed anyway, creating unnecessary stress and expense. The condition of the park was no better:• The pool was“under repair” for our entire 6-week stay.• The laundry facilities were poorly maintained, with broken machines left unfixed.• The grounds were littered with trash, the grass was dangerously overgrown, and mosquitoes made being outside unbearable.• The office was rarely open, and calls for help were met with indifference or more attitude.• A massive tree fell and damaged another guest’s RV— KOA took no responsibility.• The WiFi was useless— barely worked the entire time we were there.• They had to change the bathroom codes because someone who wasn’t even staying there brought a prostitute into the men’s restroom. There were empty sites all around us, and it’s clear why. This park is filthy, unsafe, overpriced, and run by someone who has no business working with the public. If you value your sanity and your property, do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else.

    Abilene KOA

    Yeeeeaaaa, no.

Oof. Landed here back in May after a long day of driving and not having another other quick options.

Location is rough. As you can see in one of my photos, it is right next to a seedy Motel 6 and the neon light from the sign doesn't quit all night. It's loud too, as it is off a main road. Sites are smashed together and privacy isn't an option. Camp host seemed decent enough, didn't spend much time talking though, just made a reservation over the phone. All the standard KOA fixings are accounted for. Still, this is not a nice place to camp, especially if you're in a tent, and we paid a lot more than we should have for what we got.

    Skip it.

    DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!

I made reservations for this campground 2 weeks in advance for an overnight layover. At the time of the reservation I advised Angelica that my mother was on a walker, not able to move around very well @ which time she advised no “pre-reservations of spots” can be implemented, all spots are assigned @ time of check-in. We get here to check in & when I asked if we could be placed close to the front for my mom to get close to showers I was told there was nothing that could be done, they were full for the weekend (we checked in on Thursday) and we’re not given any option of any alternative solutions to the situation, just simply told “you don’t understand the system assigns the campsites & there’s nothing they can do”. Before hooking up my sister flagged Angelica down & asked her about moving @ which time she replied we could go ask one of the campers that came in behind us that was a few spots closer to the office if they’d be willing to switch spots. After we were completely hooked up & Abigail went back to the office to let the manager know we were less than happy, the Mgr did call to offer us a closer site that was a back-in site that we were more than welcome to move to. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE! I definitely will not stay here again nor will I recommend this campground to anyone!
