Big Creek Resort, Marina, & Campground

One of my favorite local campgrounds

I like this park because it's close to home. It's got a good space between sites and is broken into 3 or 4 areas so you're not just piled in like sardines. You can being 4-wheeled vehicles that have a steering wheel. No sewer hookups, but there is a dump station. Unfortunately, subsequent major floods have caused them to lose much of the tree cover. It's great when camping in groups though, which we do quite often. All sites have views of the lake. They have a really good fireworks display on 4th of July.

      Type of Park: Private-owned

Check In: 4p Check Out: 3p

      Site#79- Back-In

      $35 per night($105 total)

      Water 20/30/50 amp

      Picnic Table with concrete pad

Grass site. No rock or concrete base

👍🏻 Pros: No trees to avoid

On the end of the line so no one is on the"front" side of the camper

Good area for camping in groups

Close to good swimming areas and store

      Close to boat ramp

👎🏻 Cons: Split-level site- table is down a slight hill from parking area. No shade

Across from the cabins on stilts, lake view is a little blocked

Cabins are being refurbished and the equipment and materials are stacked near the site(and some construction noise)

No grill or fire ring at this site

📝 Park Notes: Gates closed and locked from midnight to 6 am on weekends.

Closed at 10 pm on week days.

Can bring golf carts, ATV's(machines with steering wheels, not handle bars)

Dump Station- a little hard to get to for big rigs. Also hard to leave the park from there. You may have to go back into the park to turn around.

Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground

      Pleasant Texas State Park

We had a really nice relaxing stay at Stephen F Austin State Park near San Filepe, Texas. Great little state park easily accessed from I-10. The 38 RV sites are all asphalt pad pull throughs with 30/15 amp electric, water and sewer complete with concrete pad for table, fire pit, lantern and all well spaced for plenty of privacy...big rig friendly. They have an additional 39 tent only sites with water and 25 primitive. Screened shelters are reservable for tent camping with 20 amp electric and water plus one rustic cabin with amenities. There is a$5 daily entrance fee in addition to camping fees. The bathhouse facilities are brand new. It's a small park but they do have five miles of trails for hiking/biking with views of the Brazos River. We enjoyed the wildlife; deer strolling in the campground every morning and evening, birds, rabbits, frogs, turtles, a bobcat and numerous owls. They have a Nature Center; however it was not open during our visit. The park office has a small store with sundries and park souvenirs. The nearby San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site tells the story of early settlers to Texas and is worth a visit. We made a run to the nearby town of Sealy to do a much needed laundry stop...small community with grocery, dining and fuel to meet most needs. Lake Somerville State Park Birch Creek Unit Campground

Nice park with green space between sites

      • Water

      • 20/30 amp(had 50 amp outlet, but only 20& 30 breakers)

      • Grill

      • Fire Ring with adjustable height grate

      • Picnic Table

      • Site Pad: asphalt. Site was just long enough for my 24' camper and my truck and not much room between.

      👍🏻 Pros:

      • Near the water with a trail to get there

      • Green space between the site and neighbors

      • Good kayaking area

      👎🏻 Cons:

      • The spot is tight getting in. My 10' high camper had low hanging branches on it(but they were soft, not stiff). Lots of vines/shrubs across from the site, so no extra room there.

      📝 Park Notes:

      • Park does not have a gate, so it doesn't close

      • Dump Station for each camping loop

      • Restrooms/ Bath House

      • Boat ramp

      • Fishing jetty (pier is closed)

      • This campground is better for winter camping. Great buffer from wind and neighbors. Only a handful of sites have direct access to the water.

      • Lots of trails

      • There are Munzees and Geocaches here

      • Group pavilion/kitchen available

      • 2 group shelters available

🐦 Wildlife:• Birds: Shore birds, egrets, herons, cardinals, mockingbirds

      • Deer

      • Raccoons(I saw their tracks, but not the critters)

More info an video at https://www.denisevajdak.com/2021/08/my-birthday-weekend-2021.html

Site 23 was better (stayed in this one twice). Wider, nice view of lake. Not very long, but easier to get into.

      Jetstream RV Resort at Waller

      Great RV park!

We stayed here for about 5 weeks and loved our stay! Lots of great amenities and awesome staff! Friendly neighbors and a lot of full timers so not a lot of traffic or noise. The park was clean with full hookups, wide roads and level concrete pads. Pet friendly- our two doggos loved the dog wash station! Highly recommend!

Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground

      Okay State Park

Got to the park around 2:00 PM and pulled up to the stop sign in the second lane to use the bathroom and check in. Found out from a not-so-kind park ranger that we could not park and loiter at the front of the office building. There was a sign to that effect that we missed as most state parks have you park in front of the check in office and there wasn't really anywhere else to park with our 39' fifth wheel in tow. Check in was alright, but there was confusion concerning our Texas State Park passes for Disabled Veterans, which we both received a few years ago at another Texas State Park. For our stay here, only one person's pass was accepted and that pass was good for 1.5 people. Another employee thought we should each be covered with our passes and tried to add the additional pass in the system, but since we were camping, versus day use in a car, we could only use one. So, we had to pay$7.50 park pass for our 3 nites stay. Then she had to show the young man checking us in the rule book that showed we were entitled to the pass even though we were non-residents. This is the first time our passes weren't accepted to cover us both. After that we headed to pull through site 21 with FHUs but only 30 AMP. The wood posts and trees in this site determine how/where you park your rig. We needed our 15’ sewer hose and used a donut as there’s no screw in for the sewer connection. Water pressure was okay at around 40 psi. We got quite a few OTA channels and 3 bars on Verizon having no problem with internet and making calls using our MiFi. Most of the sites here are very spacious and well laid out so your neighbors are not close to you. Site 21 is one of the most spacious and we had no problem fitting our 39’ 5th wheel and F-450 on the pad. The restrooms/shower house in the RV area was clean and there was ice for sale at that location. What we really enjoyed about this park was the abundant hiking trails that interweave with each other. We thought the golf course in the park would be open, but it had been sold to a private owner and would hopefully open to the public in a month or so. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our 3 night’s stay.

Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground

      Nice, Kind of Pricy

We got a spot here for one night with no reservations on a Thursday in late March, but all the spots were booked for the weekend. With taxes and fees the price came to $38 for a night at a FHU site.

All sites are pull through / bump out style. Our spot (#39) wasn't level. Spots come with a picnic table and fire pit.

Firewood and ice for sale here at campground.

Free showers are really nice and clean, look pretty new. Water never got hot for me though.

Friendly rangers at the office when we checked in, and they had lots of cute things to buy at the gift shop.

      Dumpsters and aluminum can recycling.

Ok cell reception, not many bars but both the att and Verizon phone worked fine. We heard the rangers tell other campers that there is free wifi at the campground but we didn't see it pop up when we looked for it.

Lots of nice short hiking trails here throughout the park.

    Guide to Somerville

RV campgrounds near Somerville, Texas provide access to Lake Somerville State Park's 8,500 acres of outdoor recreation opportunities in the rolling Post Oak Savannah region. Temperatures average 95°F in summer months and 55°F in winter, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. Cell service remains spotty throughout many Somerville-area campgrounds, with coverage varying significantly between carriers.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Somerville offers good fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish year-round. "We stumbled upon this park when we were visiting family in the area. It's a gem! Very well maintained, clean, nice big spaces and good distance between you and your neighbor," notes a visitor to Brazos Valley RV Park.

Hiking trails: Several RV parks near Somerville connect to walking paths or nature trails. A camper at Hidden Creek RV Resort shares, "Woods with trails allow for walking, with or without the dogs. You won't be disappointed staying here."

Aggie football games: Many campers use Somerville area RV parks as base camps for Texas A&M football weekends. "We had a chance to stay here the weekend of the A&M/Auburn game. Place was booked solid, but there was still plenty of room to move around, even with the slide outs out on everyone's RV," reports a guest at Hardy's Resort RV Park.

    What campers like

Level sites: Many campgrounds feature concrete pads that require minimal setup time. At Timber Ridge RV Park, one camper noted, "We were just staying overnight, found the campground super clean with nice level concrete pads. No need to unhook!"

Pool access: Several parks offer swimming pools for cooling off during hot Texas days. "There is a really nice size pool with a covered porch area for sitting and a sun/TV room on the other side of the pool area, for lounging; hubby spent time in there watching sports while the kids played in the pool," mentions a visitor at Hardy's Resort RV Park.

On-site activities: Some rv campgrounds near Somerville, Texas provide recreational amenities. "The staff had a game night party and did smores for the kids (okay so I had one too) and sausage wraps for everyone. Beautiful park, it had 2 ponds and a large grassy area with a gazebo for hanging out, and the cutest miniature life size chess set," shares another Hardy's Resort RV Park camper.

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Book well in advance for football weekends and summer holidays. A Timber Ridge RV Park guest mentions, "Was on game day so quite crowded but still superb."

Utility connections: Pay attention to site layouts when selecting your spot. "Need to park as far back as possible to reach utility post. We'll be back," advises a Timber Ridge RV Park camper regarding sewer connections.

Laundry facilities: Some parks have updated their laundry systems to app-based payment. "The laundry room was different. The machines didn't use coins they used an app-new technology. Not hard to use just had to download an app and put money on it. The nice thing was the machines let me know when the laundry was ready," reports a visitor at Hardy's Resort RV Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Proximity to amenities: Choose parks with family-friendly features. "This is a clean, well lighted RV park in which to spend a night, week or even a month. I would recommend this park for anyone going to A&M for games or to visit kids," notes a visitor at Revviel RV Park.

Grocery access: Stock up before arriving or know where nearby stores are located. "If you leave out going to SR 21, make a right and there is a fairly new HEB with everything one might want from groceries to mesquite wood chunks for smoking and BBQ grilling," adds the same Revviel RV Park camper.

Wildlife viewing: Some parks offer opportunities to see local wildlife. "Pretty campground. Saw deer," reports a camper at Holiday RV Park.

    Tips from RVers

Site width considerations: Many Somerville area RV parks have varying site widths. "Exceptionally clean and neat. Site was more than wide enough and more than long enough for my total 62 foot rig," notes a Brazos Valley RV Park visitor.

Internet connectivity: WiFi quality varies significantly between campgrounds. "Good CATV, not so good wifi, AT&T was good," reports another Brazos Valley RV Park camper.

Navigation challenges: Consider local road conditions when planning arrival routes. "Not easy to get around from there based on the construction and how the roads work. The site is clean and orderly. Very simple place," shares a Holiday RV Park visitor.
