Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Longview, TX

Martin Creek Lake State Park Campground welcomes pets throughout its site options, including screened shelters, tent sites, and RV hookups. Dogs must be leashed at all times on the park's trails and camping areas. The park features concrete-floored screened shelters that are regularly cleaned and maintained, making them suitable for campers with pets. Full hookup RV sites allow visitors to camp comfortably with their animals while enjoying access to water. Fernbrook RV Park offers pet-friendly accommodations with well-groomed grass areas ideal for dog walking. Shallow Creek RV Park maintains clean grounds with designated areas for pet relief. Antique Capital RV Park allows pets with shade trees at each site, though there's no dedicated dog park. Most campgrounds require pets to be on leashes no longer than six feet and owners must clean up after their animals.

Dog-friendly hiking trails at Tyler State Park Campground provide excellent exercise opportunities for pets, with paths winding through tall Loblolly pines. Martin Creek Lake's shoreline offers water access where pets can cool off during hot Texas summers. Campers should be aware of the abundant poison ivy along some trails and keep pets on established paths. The concrete pads at many RV sites help minimize pest issues, particularly ants which are mentioned in several park reviews. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90 degrees, requiring extra water and shade considerations for pets. Each campground enforces quiet hours when excessive barking must be controlled. Gladewater's Antique Capital RV Park provides green walking areas for dogs despite having no dedicated dog park, making it suitable for short stays with pets while exploring the nearby antique shops.

    Great place

This was the closest place with camping near Longview. We have looked at it before, but plans feel through. We got a camping spot Mothers day weekend. It was wonderful. Hosts are great and its well kept. Had access to a outdoor kitchen and awesome bathrooms. We fell in love with the place. Will try and book the school house for our anniversary. Many unique places to stay..

    Ramblin Fever RV Park

    Close to Restaurants and Shopping

I stayed for 4 nights from a Thursday through Monday. The owner is very nice and helped me with choosing a drive thru site. It is well maintained. Mix of long term and short stay resident s. It is near a busy arterial highway so it's not especially quiet. The hookups worked great. I was two spots from the very front of the park. I used Passport America pass for my first 3 nights. I felt safe. It is very pet friendly. Keep dogs on leash and clean up after them. I have 3 black labs. No fenced dog park yet, so I drove them to the city park with tennis courts every morning to run free. I will most likely stay here again. I mostly boondock in the forests, but when I need a place to resupply and take care of business needs, this place is very nice.

    Tyler RV Park

    Great location, clean and safe

This park is in a perfect spot on the outskirts of town. It’s really quiet, has a pond, dog park, walking trail and the road to town is beautiful. It’s only about 5 to 10 minutes from a fairly new shopping center and restaurants. Has a laundry facility on site. Everything is super clean. Anthony is great to work with and is very helpful. Neighbors are friendly and courteous. Wish we could stay longer.

    Tyler State Park Campground

    One of our favorite parks

I should mention that my husband is from Canada. He was very unenthusiastic about camping in Texas. Well Tyler State Park made him change his mind! He LOVED the large trees, said it was the closest he'd felt to home in quite some time. We love the variety of types of sites they offer. Lake front, group, hike in, cabin, they have something for everyone! Only downfall is they book so quickly.

    Tyler State Park Campground

    Options Galore!

This is my favorite state park in Texas! Lots of options for all kinds of campers. For camping, lots of different sites available for RVs/Campers, Tents, etc. some along the lake, some in the woods, and also cabins and shelters available! Hiking options vary from a nature stroll, to some more serious up-downs through the hills on the outskirts of the campground. Bring your friends, family, and pets, there is truly something for everyone here, even kayak and canoe rentals at the lake!

    TravelCenters of America RV Park

    EASY OFF INTERSTATE ACCESS

We came here for a quick over night stay. Right off interstate by gas stations and food. We were in a pull through spot, which was level, but barely long enough for our truck and 30 ft camper. Full hookups (bring extra long electric cord!), picnic table, showers, cable, dog park, and extra parking area noted. No fires allowed. With Good Sam our spot was 34.00 which was quite reasonable.

Guide to Longview

The piney woods of East Texas surround Longview with tall loblolly pines and natural lake systems. Summer temperatures typically range from 85-95°F with high humidity, while winters remain mild with occasional freezes. The region sits at approximately 350 feet above sea level with sandy loam soil that drains quickly after rainfall.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake O' the Pines offers excellent catfishing access at Brushy Creek, where concrete pads place you right at the water's edge. "We enjoyed relaxing here. Great lake view and a small private beach," reports Cindy S. The campground maintains clean facilities with water and electric hookups at each site.

Hiking through pine forests: The tall pine ecosystems provide shaded trails at Buckhorn Creek with lake views and wildlife viewing opportunities. "We have camped here twice and plan another trip in July. Beautiful lake, well maintained park with spacious sites, lots of shade, and amazing sunsets," notes Lisa B. The park features waterfront sites with viewing decks.

Antique shopping: Gladewater's antique district sits near several pet-friendly RV parks, making it convenient for day trips. "Pull thru, level, concrete pad. Swimming pool & fishing lake. Very little shade. No dog park but lots of green walks for the pups. Great spot if you love antiquing! Gladewater has many, many, many antique shops," explains Jo from Antique Capital RV Park.

What campers like

Screened shelters: The concrete-floored shelters at Martin Creek Lake State Park Campground provide comfortable protection from insects. "The rafters in these shelters were spaced out far enough for me to hang my hammock. 4 people slept inside without air mattresses or camp pads and slept wonderfully," writes Heidi R. These shelters include electrical outlets both inside and outside.

Primitive island camping: For a more secluded experience, Martin Creek Lake offers primitive sites on an island. "My wife and I did our first camp at Martin Creek Lake state park the other week. We highly recommend their primitive camping option on the island. Remember to bring your wagon, the parking lot is a good 70 yards to the camp sites," advises Aaron K.

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Shallow Creek RV Park maintains exceptional standards that campers frequently mention. "Great experience. Everyone very friendly. Exceptionally clean. Good lighting," notes lois. The park features full hookups with concrete pads suitable for larger rigs.

What you should know

Power plant proximity: Martin Creek Lake sits near a power plant that creates background noise at some campsites. "There's a power plant over there. Didn't know that when I booked my site. Nice short distance hiking trail, I enjoyed quite a bit. The sites were clean, well kept," explains Shane H.

Poison ivy awareness: Poison ivy grows abundantly throughout the region, particularly along trail edges. "My 'beware' is that there is an abundance of Poison Ivy around. So if you are bothered by that be very careful," warns Lori C. from Martin Creek Lake State Park.

Security features: Some campgrounds implement security measures that affect access. "Gate is locked at night so keep the email with the code if you want in late or out early," advises Fabein D. about Martin Creek Lake State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Tyler State Park Campground offers superior facilities for families with children. "The playground is one of the best I've seen at the state parks we've been to! We love our SP so close to home!" shares Becca H. The park includes a lake with swimming areas and fishing docks.

Water recreation options: Lake activities provide cooling relief during hot summer months. "The lake was perfect and had a nice beach. We were able to rent kayaks and paddle boats. The hiking is not the greatest but it was easy enough for my toddler," notes Sarah J. from Tyler State Park.

Playground accessibility: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children, but sun exposure can be an issue. "Pretty cool playground, trails to explore, covered picnic tables in the swim area, nice fishing piers. A really cool SP," shares another Becca H. about Martin Creek Lake.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Many RV sites in the region require some adjustment. "We found this at the last minute and they had room for 25 days. When we got in the owner said he would give us the monthly rate because it was cheaper than 3 weeks. That was nice. Bathrooms nice and big and clean. They are on a golf course for you golfers. Concrete pads, we could tell some were not level, but ours was hardly any leveling," reports Mary T. from Shallow Creek RV Park.

Long-term stay options: Fernbrook RV Park accommodates extended stays with well-maintained facilities. "This is a very nice RV Park everyone is friendly it's like it's own little community because everyone communicates they have a Facebook group and if someone needs something you can reach out everyone is very trusting here," explains Alex E. The park features thick, well-groomed grass ideal for dog-friendly camping near Longview.

Sewer hose requirements: When setting up at full-hookup sites, be prepared with adequate equipment. "The site was clean. You will need to do some leveling. Another thing, make sure you bring a lot of sewer hose! We had our 20ft and had to go to Walmart to get an extension, they put it nearly at the front of the site!" advises a reviewer at a dog-friendly campground in the Longview area.
