    The Bluffs RV Park

Quick stay in a cute campground!

We came in town for a fishing tournament and stayed at this small campground with a lot of cute amenities! Close to boat ramp, 5 min walk to the lake, full hookups, good water pressure, fire pits, gavel sites, concrete pads for wooden picnic tables, small grills, dog run, horseshoes, laundry hut and free firewood! Right off the highway and good phone reception.

    Johnson Creek Camp

Beautiful place on Lake 'O the Pines, but crowded campsites

I stayed here for five nights in mid-March. The campground is a mix of tent/RV loops and has multiple boat ramps into Johnson Creek which feeds into Lake 'O the Pines. I was in site E210 (RV area 2). Place was packed over the weekend, cleared out quite a bit during the week. I check out all four RV loops, and it's one of the most crowded COE campgrounds I've seen (and I've seen a lot). Site spacing in pretty close, but slightly better than commercial parks. I lucked out on E210, it was a pull-through that perched overlooking the lake. It was among the more private sites. Fairly level sites in loops, some asphalt, some concrete. Water/Elec, picnic pad and table and fire rings at all sites. I would definitely recommend and go back but pick your sites carefully if you want privacy - think Google satellite view or Google Earth. Pretty decent cell signal for Verizon, so-so for ATT.

    Ramblin Fever RV Park

    Close to Restaurants and Shopping

I stayed for 4 nights from a Thursday through Monday. The owner is very nice and helped me with choosing a drive thru site. It is well maintained. Mix of long term and short stay resident s. It is near a busy arterial highway so it's not especially quiet. The hookups worked great. I was two spots from the very front of the park. I used Passport America pass for my first 3 nights. I felt safe. It is very pet friendly. Keep dogs on leash and clean up after them. I have 3 black labs. No fenced dog park yet, so I drove them to the city park with tennis courts every morning to run free. I will most likely stay here again. I mostly boondock in the forests, but when I need a place to resupply and take care of business needs, this place is very nice.

    Governor Jim Hogg RV Park

    RV camping

The camping area is mostly occupied by long term RV campers. Many of the campers are employed in the nearby areas. Grounds offer water/electric/sewer hookups, there are also toilets available but no showers. The RV grounds are part of the city park which offers a splash pad (seasonal), large playground, pavilion, picnic areas, arboretum, and a short hiking trail (approximately one third of a mile). The RV sites are backed up by the sheriff's office/county jail the courthouse is down the road, and there is a police department across the street. This isn't to suggest that the area is dangerous, its a small town and everything is pretty much right there. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance.

Lake Fork, a popular fishing lake is within a ten minute drive. Lake Quitman is less than ten minutes, generally this is where water sport activities occur. Pets are welcome.

    Shady Lake RV Park

    Overnight Stop

This park is close to highway and great for overnight stay. The park has pull through full site hookups. The park has a pond that is the center of the entire campground. The park has two dog parks available as well for those traveling with pets.

    Two things I loved:

    1. Close to highway quick stay
    2. The pond nice view with ducklings

One thing I didn’t love: Really close to others for extended stays.

Mineola Civic Center and RV Park

    Excellent

Over 150 concrete sites all level from what I could see. Well set up for Class A Motorhome sewer, water and 50 and 30 amp connections. Walking distance of big grocery store. 15 miles from Lake Fork. They even bring you a 55 gallon garbage container.

    We RV Champions

    Cool name, cool stay!

The name drew us in, the convenience, friendly staff, large spaces and the usual amenities will bring us back.

A very convenient location for a base if you are looking to go to Canton Trade Days, Edom's many art festivals, Moore's Store in Ben Wheeler to see a show, shopping in Tyler or any of your East Texas adventures.

Although near the highway and the Tyler Pounds Field Regional Airport, this rv park is surprisingly quiet and peaceful. An older park, well maintained with mature trees lining the property. A good portion of long term stay residents with smiles and waves and neat spaces.

    Buffalo Bayou RV Park

    Not what we expected

Made a reservation via telephone for two days a month in advance, but was not given a site number. When we pulled up to the office there was a note with a telephone number to call, but no answer. I saw a gentleman walking around and it appeared he saw us. After waiting about 10 minutes, I decide to driver further into the park. The gentleman I saw earlier was one of the owners/ managers, I would would have expected him to go to the office to meet the newly arriving guests. I will say that he was friendly enough and later, his wife stopped by to collect the fee and she too was friendly. The park itself has full hook ups and is on the banks of the bayou. The campground require you to sign a waiver because of the water moccasins from the bayou and because of the potential of falling tree limbs. The. Campground is pretty sandy so leveling may be problematic for big rigs. The do allow long term guests to store all kinds of equipment and gear, the site next to us look like a junk yard. Our fellow campers seemed friendly enough with the gentleman on the other side from the junk yard introducing himself.

Guide to Gilmer

Camping options near Gilmer, Texas include lakeside sites, private RV parks, and seasonal accommodations throughout the East Texas Piney Woods region. The area maintains mild winter temperatures in the 50s-60s°F range and humid summers reaching into the 90s. Cellular reception typically registers stronger for Verizon users than for those with other carriers across campgrounds in this region.

What to do

Fishing access: Lake Bob Sandlin provides multiple entry points for shore fishing directly from waterfront campsites at Big Al's Barefoot Bay. "Sandy spots to swim from at various entry points. Friendly people and several kids that run around playing, making friends. Great place for kayaking," notes one visitor.

Water activities: The summer heat makes swimming popular at parks like Stillwater RV Resort, which features multiple water facilities. "Lazy river, adult-only swim up bar, playground, full service on-site restaurant/bar, coffee shop...this is not normal camping. It's fancy camping," explains a camper.

Antiquing excursions: The region's antique shopping centers are located within 15 miles of several campgrounds. "As a bonus, it is less than 15 miles from Kilgore, the antique capitol of TX," mentions one RVer about Stillwater's convenient location for day trips.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Multiple RV parks prioritize cleanliness in their shower and bathroom facilities. At Shallow Creek RV Park, visitors consistently mention this aspect: "Exceptionally clean and friendly. Good lighting," states one review.

Concrete pads: Level, paved sites are available at several locations, with campers appreciating the stability. "Great RV park, concrete pads, well maintained quiet. This is one of my favorite finds in TX. Everything you need," shares a visitor at Lake Hawkins County RV Park.

Family-friendly amenities: Many parks include dedicated children's areas. "We visited here for a weekend get away with friends and their families. We all have young kids and had a blast, playing at the sandy beach on the lake," reports a Lake Hawkins camper.

What you should know

Site leveling requirements: Despite concrete pads at many parks, some sites require adjustment. "You will need a little side to side leveling for many of the sites," notes a Stillwater visitor.

Sewer hose planning: Hookup placement varies significantly between parks. "Make sure you bring a lot of sewer hose! We had our 20ft and had to go to Walmart to get an extension, they put it nearly at the front of the site!" warns one camper.

Weekend crowds: Summer weekends see significant increases in visitor numbers at waterfront locations. "It gets busy on weekends but is quiet and secluded during the week," explains a visitor at Lake Hawkins.

Limited shade: Many newer RV parks lack mature trees. At The Bluffs RV Park, sites feature "gravel sites, concrete pads for wooden picnic tables" but limited natural shade coverage.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Look for parks with dedicated swimming areas. "Small lake with lots of floating things for kids to climb on, a children's pool with lots of water features," reports a visitor about Stillwater.

Recreation facilities: Several parks maintain playgrounds and open spaces. "Lots of places for kids to play or ride bikes. Several bathroom shower houses, nice beach," mentions a Lake Hawkins visitor.

Weekend activities: Some parks coordinate family events during peak times. "They had a bunch of activities for the holiday weekend which were fun! Duck races on two days, firework show, bingo, chalk contest, find the flags, etc!" shares a Stillwater camper.

Tips from RVers

Cellular connectivity: Service quality varies across locations. "We had great included WiFi and streamed most of our television using it, and our ATT phones were 4 to 5 bars," notes a camper staying at Stillwater.

Utility connection quality: Water pressure consistency differs between parks. "Full hookups, good water pressure, fire pits," reports a visitor at Texas Rose RV Park.

Parking access: Interior roads at some campgrounds present challenges for larger rigs. "Narrow drive in and out," cautions a Shallow Creek visitor, though noting the campground has room for extended stays.

Military discounts: Some parks offer reduced rates for service members. "There is a very generous military discount," mentions a Texas Rose RV Park visitor, making it budget-friendly for qualifying campers.
