GuideIt was super hot when I camped here (too hot to explore), but the brand new facilities made it enjoyable. I would definitely return. Geared toward RVs and brand new, so priced a little higher than some other Texas State Parks. I paid $30.
GuideRestrooms and showers are a little aged but clean. The grounds are clean and mowed. Lake has good access. (Like other campgrounds, I do not like the reservation system , people reserve but don't show up. ) I would like to come back again later in the year.
RangerI grew up going to this lake, but this was my first time camping at the state park. Very nice park, people were very friendly and helpful. Close to town, which is to say you are close to Underwood’s - awesome food!! Worth the trip for that alone. Also, recommend visiting Woody’s Car Museum in nearby Cross Plains - free museum with an awesome car and baseball memorabilia collection.
GuideThe Possum Kingdom /Bug Beach area was perfect for an overnight stay. Beautiful scenery includes lake, trees, and lots of deer. Lots of areas to find an overnight spot. Clean bathrooms and a dumpster for trash.
LegendJust two other campers. Everyone was very quiet. The campground itself was very nice and well maintained. Just the birds chirping and a few armadillos grubbing. Good overnight stay.
ScoutIt's a good park and all but there are things that I feel need to be addressed though whether anything changes or not is another. One can only hope for better.
Pro's: It is a pretty park and has plenty wildlife to enjoy if that's your thing. The staff are nice. The lake is beautiful. I see boaters who appear to be enjoying the water. Very pretty park.
Con's: People don't always respect your privacy at your site. We stayed more than a week and people would randomly walk through our site instead of walking around to get to their site. Not everyone did this but there is always those who don't care about respect & courtesy.
Another thing that we found to be rather annoying was people who walk their dogs into reserved but empty sites or even occupied sites right where people have to walk when camping and letting their dog poop and not pick it up. That is one of the most disrespectful things a camper can do in a park. Hands down anyone who does this should have dog poop put right on their front porch steps. Just saying...
Also, when a sign says "One Way", it says that for a reason. Drivers should pay attention better so it doesn't cause any issue.
Again, it's a nice park but so many people who decide to camp don't care about following rules or respecting another campers space.
GuideGet a reservation immediately. The facilities are the best. The RV spots are concrete and have parking space for a trailer and a truck. The equestrian area has corrals for four horses with huge parking areas. I booked a week after it opened.
