Hidden Gem in the Texas Swamp

We stayed at spot 128 in the Burr Oak. It was very easy to back into, the site is super wide and full asphalt. Site was very level. Bathrooms were somewhat close, about 4 or 5 sites down with a shortcut through the woods. Not a lot of street lights throughout the campground made things nice and quiet at night. The site had good Verizon cell service, around 25-50 mbps. The Tmobile service was around the same. This place is very remote and the park itself is huge, we only stayed one night but it has a ton to offer! Overall the campground was clean, very quiet, with a ton of activities.

    ONE OF OUR FAVORITES

This park is really back in there as from the office to the sites it's a good distance which is nice. Level sites and more than enough room between sites. If you like hiking, you can get it done here, just watch out for the gators.....

    Great State Park for Hiking/Biking

We stayed in spot 112 in February 2024.

    • Sites are very nice, wide, and (mostly) level.
    • Campground is kept clean.
    • Bathroom is a bit outdated, but still clean.
    • Trails are very nice and appear top be kept up regularly.  Just watch out for the alligators.
    • Don't forget to reserve a spot at the observatory on Saturday nights...

    By the water

Nicely equipped RV park right on water. Paid a few more dollars to have a pull thru site with FHU, cable & level concrete pad to pull on to. Nice big bathrooms with showers, laundry, pool, playground, gym room, small fenced dog run and large heated community room. No pets allowed in laundry/community room.

    Brackenridge Recreation Complex

A Full Recreation Area with camping

A minimum of water and electric at every site (which we don’t need) The feel is more community park with camping. There is a 12 mile equestrian trail which bikes are allowed to ride on. Other flat trails are around the park and water. It is completely full this Saturday and there are lots of families, music and fires burning. I do not consider this to be a serene wilderness/wildlife area but a Camping area full of activities. Looks like a great place for a family reunion or wedding. Complete with frisbee golf, boating, swimming, dog park, playground and more. The grounds are very well kept.

    Basic stop over park

Mostly full timers. Older rv’s. They have a couple spots for stop overs. The people are really nice and friendly. Lots and lots of dogs but there is no off leash area for them. There is also a mommy and her teenager donkeys who like carrots and apples.

    Awesome beach campground

We love this place!! It is a short walk to the beach, big ships go right by the campground, the staff is very friendly, lots of birds and dragonflies, not crowded at all , bathrooms and showers ok, LNG plant behind campground but it doesn't stink. Sometimes alarms go off at the LNG plant but not too noisy. The only thing that sucked were the prickly burrs in the grass. We had to pick them out of our dog's feet many times. The beach was great. Dogs allowed everywhere as long as leashed. Great place to relax. Must be a good place to fish too based on all the people fishing.

Fun spot for waterside weekend getaway

We had a good time at this fairly new and well kept KOA for a weekend getaway, the kids loved being so close to the water and digging on the beach, they also enjoyed the outdoor foosball table and the fishing pier. When we visited in April it was very windy and we couldn’t rent the trikes or the kayaks, but we’d come back and do that next time.

    Hike Bike Gaters and Birds

Might as well make this a national park. Was amazing. Campground has huge level pads with big campsites. Well groomed and very clean. So many walking and biking trails. We saw around 30 alligators, 100s of birds and 2 beavers (I think). Was humid and around 85 degrees most of the time.

    Lakeview, SC

Our family travel every year to visit this campground/resort. It's become a yearly vacation because the campground itself is a place to explore! Each year we go for a week and made it twice out of the campground to explore because they have everything from indoor heated pool, activity center, mini golf, golf cart parades, nightly activities like limbo holla hoop contests, packed with game areas like volleyball courts, bean bags, horse shoes, rental paddle boats, shuffle boards, water slides, splash pads, lazy River, RIGHT off the ocean! Showers and bathrooms are clean, laundry house is great, market store on site along with a restaurant. You really don't have to leave ever! We're nervous to try camping elsewhere because we've been so spoiled here!
