Best Campgrounds near Bagwell, TX

Campgrounds in the Bagwell, Texas vicinity span across northeastern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma, with several established facilities concentrated around nearby lakes and rivers. Pat Mayse Lake features multiple camping areas including Sanders Cove Recreation Area and Pat Mayse East, both offering water access and accommodations for tents and RVs. Beavers Bend State Park Campground, located near Broken Bow, Oklahoma, provides more developed options with cabins, glamping facilities, and traditional tent sites. The region generally supports mixed-use camping with varied levels of amenities and both waterfront and wooded environments.

Seasonal conditions significantly affect camping experiences in this area, particularly regarding water levels and access. The Red River and connected lakes can experience flooding after heavy rains, sometimes requiring campsite relocations. According to one visitor, "The Red River, which I am very familiar with and typically has large sand bar shores, was flowing like a mighty river instead of a casual stroll and the sand bars were nowhere in sight." Most developed campgrounds in the region operate year-round, though facilities like COE Hugo Lake Kiamichi Park maintain a limited season from March to September. Many campgrounds feature concrete pads suitable for RVs but sometimes challenging for tent campers seeking level ground.

Water access represents a primary attraction throughout the region's campgrounds, with fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities available at most locations. Several visitors mentioned Pat Mayse Lake's multiple boat ramps and relatively light boat traffic compared to other regional lakes. Campgrounds such as Sanders Cove provide a combination of wooded and open sites with varying degrees of privacy. As described in feedback on The Dyrt, "Sanders Cove is the most up to date facilities on the lake and I believe the only one with showers." The terrain generally consists of gently rolling hills with a mix of pine and hardwood forests. Visitors seeking more extensive recreational opportunities often travel to nearby Beavers Bend State Park for additional hiking trails and water activities, while those preferring more developed amenities gravitate toward the full-hookup sites at Raymond Gary State Park and Hugo Lake Park.

    South Sulphur Campground

    Wooded, well spaced sites

Staying in site 11, with access to the lake (fun for kids, fishing). The site is HUGE! Woke to the sounds of birds. Lots of shade and privacy. Site 11 is next to overflow parking but its not a big deal. All the sites up against the lake looked great! The bathrooms are fine, 1 shared between two loops-slightly far walk. But that wasn't an issue for us. There are a few short miles worth of trails we plan to walk-they appear to be wooded walking trails. All in all this place is a hidden gem if you want to get into nature with the luxury of electric and water, and showers/flushing toilets. Also, I have 3 bars of service (AT&T)

    Mount Pleasant KOA

    Clean and friendly staff

We only stayed one night at a pull-thru site but the campground was clean and we really appreciated the nice fully grassed dog park for our pups to run around.

    Whispering Woods of Texas

    Glamping it in Nature

We are not much into camping but love the outdoors.  We loved the Whispering Woods vibe as it gave us the comforts of home (bathroom, kitchen, shower, comfy bed) yet in an outdoor setting.  Lots of options to stay from a Boho tent, Airstream and other types of tents making it a perfect place for a family reunion or several families to stay.  We appreciated the details of coffee in our Airstream and sitting on the patio early morning listening to the birds chirping.  The air is fresher there and the stars, wow, I forgot how many there actually are.  Fire pit was great for conversation, relaxing and peaceful.  We highly recommend this place to get recharged and only 90 min from our home in Frisco, TX.

Broken Bow Dispersed off Rd 51220

Sweet, easy to access, still secluded

First site after turning off the main road along the creek. Spacious, multiple access to the creek, circle drive easy for mini-van. Most importantly, you don't have to drive all the way into the mountains to feel like you're deep in the woods. Site has not been cleaned but the mess is in just one area. There are a couple large abandoned tires and old camping equipment in the middle of the circle drive. Absolutely lovely to camp at. I'd haul the trash if I could.

Quachita NF Dispersed by Cedar Creek off 51220

Dispersed camping with creek close !

We had to find a quick spot because of a storm that was about to hit and we stopped here and it was great ! Fire ring for fires , open area for tent , park next to your campsite , and creek near by ! Beautiful scenic area ! Some ATVs pass by but other than that you are unbothered !

Public Ramp 1 Titus County Freshwater Supply District

    Great Free Getaway

Has on-site Lake Police Headquarters. Gated, secure, quite, VERY nice. Bout 5 miles from Walmart and gas startions - food. GREAT place to swim - as in long distance, and has a small "beach" for soakers. Two restrooms in camp ground. Two boat ramps. Has a mini airport with hobbiest flying on weekends. Nice and flat one mile road to dam to do sprint runs on, or time-trial bikes.

Deer Haven Campground — Cooper Lake State Park South Sulphur Unit

    Peaceful lake view

Been to this state park several times first time staying in the Deer Haven section. It lives up to its name. Plenty of deer to be seen along with their armadillo buddies. Only 30 amp hook ups so keeps the big trailers from being able to visit.

Armadillo Campground - Beavers Bend State Park

    Great spot

Great level spot with plenty of room. Hook ups worked great, close to the bathrooms. Nice fire pit. Is a little close to the main road but not too bad road noise in December.

As one camper described it, "Nice and shady, even good shade in the direct western sun. Beautiful sunsets! Hike right from camp." Campgrounds with swimming areas tend to attract more family-oriented visitors, while those seeking quieter experiences gravitate toward the more remote sections of Corps of Engineers properties. RV-friendly sites with full hookups can be found at several developed campgrounds, though tent campers report varying experiences with ground conditions and pad suitability. Most tent campers prefer the more secluded, wooded areas that offer better shade coverage and natural settings.
