Best Campgrounds near Corona, SD

Corona, South Dakota provides access to several lakeside camping areas with Hartford Beach State Park Campground and Big Stone Lake State Park Campground serving as primary destinations. These established campgrounds accommodate tent camping, RV sites with electric hookups, and cabin rentals. Most camping areas in the region are situated along Big Stone Lake, which forms part of the border between South Dakota and Minnesota. County Line Campground in nearby Summit offers additional camping options with full hookup sites for RVs and cabin accommodations approximately 20 miles southwest of Corona.

Camping in the Corona area operates seasonally, with most campgrounds open from May through September or early October. "This was a nice find! Sites pretty close together, especially those in the middle. Some, however, were right on the lake or had paths that lead to a picnic table & fire ring closer to the water," noted one visitor about Hartford Beach State Park. Winter camping is limited, though Camping 109 RV Park in Big Stone City remains open year-round. Reservations are recommended during summer weekends when lakeside sites fill quickly. Many campgrounds provide sanitary dump stations, drinking water, and electric hookups, though amenities vary by location. Cell service can be spotty in some areas, particularly at more remote lakeside sites.

Lakefront camping represents the primary draw for visitors to the Corona region. Campers consistently mention the appeal of waterfront sites with views across Big Stone Lake. A review highlighted that "We were able to grab a quite corner spot with a great view of the lake looking over to South Dakota." Fishing opportunities abound, with several campgrounds offering boat launches or fishing docks. The terrain is generally flat with some wooded areas providing shade at certain campgrounds. Wildlife viewing, particularly bird watching, is popular with pelicans and other waterfowl frequently spotted. While sites near the water tend to be more popular, they may also be less level than those in upper camping areas. Campgrounds in the region typically maintain clean facilities with regularly serviced bathrooms and showers.

    Sica Hollow State Park Campground

I think this area is surprising

This is a horse campground with very basic services. Trash, pit toilets, corals but there are well maintained trails that go throughout and streams and small waterfalls. Some of the most interesting hiking on this end of the state. Only 11 or so spots and very little shade and it has been surprisingly busy. I will do as much as I can on the trail system.

    Memorial Park

    Beautiful spot

Called last minute to see if they had anything available, as we had been driving for 2 days without a shower. They had a primitive tent site available and in 1 hour we were taking a nice hot shower! Thanks

Lac qui Parle Upper Campground — Lac qui Parle State Park

    Spacious and tranquil

Lots of space between sites. There are not many trees so not much shade. Sites are gravel and relatively level, not much leveling required. Variety of sites, from group camping, primitive (no hookups), electric only, full hookups (water, electric, sewer) as well as cabins and tent only areas. Limited hiking trails connected to campground. Surrounded on two sides by farm fields and Lac Qui Parle Lake on another. There are two loops in the campground. One loop has view of the lake. Boat/canoe launch is in lower campground about 10 minutes from Upper Campground. Recycling and garbage dumpsters on site. Dump station near entrance. Verizon cell signal is poor. Pit toilets available. Bathhouse is centrally located, includes private showers. No laundry on site. Nearby attractions in Montevideo include Talking Waters Brewery/taproom, Jake’s pizza and Java River cafe (with outdoor seating, dog friendly).
