Nice owners - mostly long term campers

We stayed here one night on our way through the area.  The owners were very nice and helped us get situated in our site.  The roads in the campground are dirt, rutted, and steep.  I am glad we unhooked our Jeep before navigating our RV to the site.  The RV rocked and rolled quite a bit :-) The site was level, clean with full hook-ups.  The price was very reasonable.  Most campers were seasonal or long-term campers.

    Fantastic!

We are so happy for this up and coming RV resort! Their current focus is providing a campground to the traveling nurses that are coming through the area but they do have some flexibility for travelers. Kim was fantastic at helping us with arriving early due to hurricane Ian and Mike was on site with a rain coat when we did finally show up! That’s just amazing compassion that you might not get elsewhere larger. Great Wi-Fi, level sites, and easy access to everything you could need.

    Quiet campground

I stayed at Rutledge Lake RV Resort July 7-9, 2023. The site was pretty level and the staff was friendly. The sites are packed in fairly close together but my neighbors were all extremely quiet. My Starlink had great line of sight and I had no issues streaming video. My Verizon cell phone also got great reception.

    Spacious Skies Peach Haven

    Nice campground, lots of amenities.

Overall, this is a very nice, clean park conveniently located to the interstate I-85) and attractions in the area. It has all the amenities you would expect to find at a KOA such as a swimming pool, playground, dog park, miniature golf, store, clubhouse, and more (including goats). It is by far the nicest private campground in the area that we have stayed at.

This KOA has 127 sites offering varying degrees of services to accommodate RV's, tents, and those wanting to rent cabins. We chose a 50-amp full hook-up back-in site but were upgraded to a pull-thru so we could be in a sunny location to mitigate the chilly air. How nice of them! Our site (#79) was perfectly level as were most others (but not all). Water, electric, and cable hook-ups were well placed at the site and worked fine. We paid $37/night(with the KOA member discount). Nice, large grassy area for dogs to walk and sniff and there is a decent size dog park.  Roads and pads are hard packed gravel with grass in between sites. Some sites are set in a wooded area while some are out in the open with plenty of sun and satellite coverage. The park is big rig friendly and the roads are easily navigable. All sites have a picnic table and some had fire pits but ours did not. Cable is included and offered over 50 channels. Wifi worked well at our site.  The laundry was small with three washers and three dryers but very clean and had a decent book exchange. The bathroom and showers were super clean and looked like they were updated recently.

The campground is extremely clean and the owners/employees are super friendly. There is a short hiking trail (less than a mile) through the woods and plenty of green space in front of some of the pull-thrus. playground large swimming pool with large deck putt putt with lots of goat humor.

The only downside would be the closeness of sites but that is pretty much what you expect from private RV parks. Fortunately, we did not have neighbors right next to us which gave us more space. I'm usually not a KOA fan but have to say this one was great for our overnight stay and we would recommend it.

    Beautiful field camping

Had a great time at this campground with two pups, both well-behaved and able to enjoy off-leash time with lots of space to run around. This is a horse farm so respecting their space was our first priority, and occasionally required leashing our dogs but didn’t hinder us at all. While there is a RV hookup/platform/table it wasn’t available at this time so more field camping which was perfect for us! Host was super kind and helpful, able to answer questions. Clean port-a-potty and outdoor cold shower we’re perfect!

    Town Mountain Travel Park

    ideal getaway

We stayed here for two nights in our Casita.  It was ideal for us…we were close to Hendersonville and Brevard so we got to explore both towns. Nice scenic drives to get to both also.   Manager Mike is the heart of this campground.  He is kind, friendly and very helpful.  He met us as were pulling in and then walked us to our site and helped guide us backing in.  He had treats in his pocket for our little dog every time we saw him.The bath house is one of the cleanest we have ever seen.  There was also complimentary firewood at our site. Just a short distance from a big grocery store and also a shopping center with places to eat.  It was quiet and Mike is right there ready to help anytime.

Full hook ups, gravel sites for RVs with concrete pads for picnic tables.  We were able to park on the gravel and step right out on the concrete.

We would definitely come back if in the area again.

    Clean, quiet and quaint

Stayed here for 5 days visiting family in the area and it was nice. There is no office or showers or anything like that. Spots are fairly close but the people all seemed friendly.

There seemed to be quite a few long term campers but the place was clean.

The grass is very nice instead of dirt or gravel pad next to you.

No picnic tables and the WiFi was just useable. I had 2-3 bars of AT&T LTE Wireless signal.

This KOA is small but if Peaceful and Offers Much

This does not seem to be the typical KOA, and it is small compared to my recent visits to some other KOAs. However, it was very quiet with lots of shade, but tents are not allowed. There are cabins, and the remaining sites have RV hookups. There are several things I loved about this campground. There is a small creek running beside the campground, and I believe most of the sites run along the creek. It is a very clean campground with a family like atmosphere. I met the front desk clerk, Julie, who was very helpful, and I also met one of the owners, who was very friendly. What is really unique about this KOA is that there is a nature trail through the woods. That is something I don’t recall seeing at any other KOA, and it was a pleasant surprise. I wish my grandson had been with us. He would have loved the fire truck playground and the Johnson Creek Mining Company water tower and trough. The recreation area had a ping pong table, a swimming pool, and cornhole boards, among other things. The showers/bathrooms were attached to the main office, and I really liked how the showers had a flexible hose. For safety and privacy, it was the type that can be locked so you don’t have to worry about strangers being in the bath facility with you. Overall, I recommend this campground highly. The only negative I have is that there are no tent sites.

    Very nice park

We stayed at the park a couple of times. It’s a very nice county park with full hook ups. They are doing construction right now redoing the boat docks, beach and playgrounds area. It will be very nice when done. Some sites are a little small and some are not very level but if you call the campground hosts and rangers are very helpful in helping you get on the right sight.

    Cunningham RV Park

    Would not stay again

This campground is very close to I-26 and I-81 which makes for an easy in and out for an overnight stay. We stopped for one night after a long day of driving and wanted a full hook-up pull-thru which was long enough for our 45’ RV and tow car. The roads inside the park were easy to navigate and pull into our site and nearby are fuel stations and fast food restaurants.

Most of the campers in the park were permanent residents and their campsites were pretty junky. Just to create an image in your head, our neighbors had lots of kid’s toys, trash bags, appliances, and laundry scattered about their site while others had old cars, dilapidated sheds, car tires, and tarps stretched across their campers. Other than a swimming pool and decent playground, there really aren’t too many amenities or reasons that you might want to stay here, other than for an overnight. The bathroom and showers were clean and there is a nice laundry. Roads in the campground and at sites are gravel with grass/gravel patios and picnic table. Not all sites have fire pits. Our site (#102) did not have a fire pit but there was an indentation under the leaves where it looked like there was a fire pit and there were a bunch of rocks piled up against a tree that could be used to create one without anyone objecting. All sites are full hook-up, some being 30-amp and others 50. Most sites are pull-thrus and level. Our over-the-antenna picked up about 40 television channels, including all the major stations. Our Verizon phone picked up a 5G signal.

There were signs everywhere about not letting your dog off-leash so I’m assuming there was a problem in the past. While we were there, we never encountered any unruly dogs or any off-leash. There are lots of large trees for shade which are not a problem for pulling into or out of a site but may be a problem if you are trying to get satellite television. The sewer outlet at our site was placed in the back of our site and I needed a hose about 35’ long to reach it.  Some of the back-in sites are pretty close but it appeared they were for seasonal/permanent campers.

The electrical hookup was a little sketchy. It appears they updated an old electrical box with a new 50-amp outlet and taped the other one shut so you could not open it. There was no breaker on the new outlet you could access. Despite the way it looked, we never had a problem with the electric.  Our sewer was a different issue.  The sewer drain needed to be cleaned out because when I opened the grey valve it did not drain properly and began to overflow.  I had to shut the valve, wait for the water to go down, and reduce the flow which took about fifteen minutes to drian 25 gallons of grey water.

At $45 for a full hook-up site, we would not stay here again.

    Croft State Park Campground

Good Campground except for the Yellow Jackets

Croft State Park is a really nice campground for RV and travel trailer camping. For tent camping, it is just okay. I say that because of the gravel surfaces at the campsites. Fortunately, I took a cot to sleep on, for even with a foam pad and an air mattress, I think sleeping would be uncomfortable. The site I stayed on did have water and electricity, which was fortunate since it is very hot there in August. My mistake was not taking a large enough fan.

The bath house was conveniently located, and it was air conditioned. There were hot showers, and when I say hot, I mean hot. If you take a shower in their bath house, I suggest that you do not turn the water all the way to hot to begin with. Otherwise, you will burn yourself. Although there was a soap dispenser in the bath house, you will need to take your own soap. The dispenser was empty.

There is a beautiful lake at the campground, which allows several opportunities for fishing. There is a fishing dock and several types of watercraft rentals. There is also miles and miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. I was amazed at the number of trails.

Another section of the park is devoted to equestrian camping, and there is even a show arena. For those who want to primitive camp, there is a place for that as well. I would have given the campground four stars, but because of the gravel sites and the yellow jackets, I could only give it three. The yellow jackets were out of control.

I would suggest some pest control measures. I realize that most campers are in RVs and travel trailers, but tent campers also need a more appropriate place to camp than on large gravel surfaces.

    Springwood RV Park

    Planes, trains, automobiles and RVs

Precious! I’ve never stayed in an RV park next to a small airport with a train track running through the middle of the park! Our pull through site was located under an old oak tree, conveniently next to the laundromat.

Fell asleep to the soothing sounds of a locomotive horn punctuated by the plinks of acorns bouncing off the roof. Awakened at 5:30 AM by sirens tuned to major thirds followed a little later by the thumping sounds of helicopter blades. What a symphony of delightful sounds! Thankfully, I wear hearing aids I can remove at night. Unfortunately, my wife was not so lucky.

The park did have full hookups, wifi, and while it did not have cable it had excellent reception from a number of local stations. I give it to two stars - one star for infrastructure and a second star for novelty. Zero stars for ambiance.

Outstanding county park - overnight or weekend

We stayed here in June 2021 as an overnight stay and we wished we could have stayed longer. The price was amazing! The full hook up sites were very clean and we felt good being so secure with the gate and rangers. We did take some time to walk along the beach and the park.

    Rutledge Lake RV Resort

    Expensive, Narrow Site

My husband and I, along with our 2 dogs, stayed at Rutledge Lake RV Resort for 1 night in our Mercedes Sprinter campervan. We prefer to make our reservations online, and found it a bit odd that they actually use a third party booking site that only submits a request to book so we didn't have a confirmed booking until mid-morning the day of our arrival. They also don't offer guaranteed site numbers so you don't know your site until you arrive. In addition, we found out after we arrived that due to the temps we were not supposed to use the water connections. We found it to be to be an extremely expensive reservation, especially given the inability to use the hookups we had purchased. For reference, we paid$68 for one night and had just completed a 4 night stay at another park for$74 total. While the lake was pretty, the sites are very narrow and there is zero privacy. There's also a fair bit of road noise as well. There don't seem to be a ton of great options in the Asheville area and since we needed WiFi in the morning for my husband's work meeting, we opted to stay here, but we wouldn't choose to stay here again in the future. For campers that like lots of amenities, perhaps this is a great fit, but it just wasn't worth it for us. I think it's also worth mentioning that in trying to use the key card the automatic gate dropped on the front of our vehicle, and then in order to park close enough to the hookups my husband hit a post when opening the driver's door.

    Springwood RV Park

    Great for an overnight stay

Springwood RV Park was great for our overnight stay. Our pull-thru site was right next to the office and was very level. Our site had a picnic table. We had no issues with the water/electric/sewer. Our rate was$48.

    Spacious Skies Hidden Creek

We have been pretty happy with our stay

Great little spot for a family get away. We came in late after leaving another place down the road that was just awful. They waited until we arrived even though it was after the office closed.

They have a lot of little activities during the day and even for the family. We would stay here again, I just wish it was a little cheaper ($57 a night full hook ups)and it would be nice if cell phone service was better as there is pretty much one bar everywhere you go in the camp ground for Verizon.

    Lazy Boy Travel Park

Good for a one night stay!

We stayed here for one night on our way to Roan Mountain. We pulled in at 11:30p and left at 9am the next day. It was quiet! Most residents seem to be full time and do not take care of their camper / grounds.

Bathroom was clean, with a little mildew. Shower was hot.

Owner of the rv park is very kind!

I wouldn't necessarily jump to stay here again. But it's a good choice if you need a quick place to stay.

    Rutledge Lake RV Resort

Damaged my RV, now won’t fix it!

Upon arrival we were instructed to wait for their attendant to guide us into our spot. He guided us into a roof gutter badly scratching our 40’ Class A. He took pictures & responsibility for the damage & the staff said they were filing an insurance claim with their carrier. We’ve had several phone calls with their office personnel in which they told us they were handling the claim, getting estimates, making the arrangements, etc. & now we received an unsigned email telling us that when we checked in we signed a form “which released us from any loss or damages to property” and that “you are responsible for parking your RV”,even though we were told that their employee had to guide us. These people have been lying to us for weeks & now leave us hanging. I would never recommend this RV Park just based on their unscrupulousness.
