Best RV Parks & Resorts near Venetia, PA

The Venetia region has several established RV facilities including Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, and The Blue Canoe RV Resort (formerly Uniontown KOA). Pine Cove offers full hookups with 50-amp service and can accommodate large motorhomes on well-maintained gravel sites. "Some sites are very un-level and narrow, where you sit is a slope making it uncomfortable," noted one camper about certain KOA sites. Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA provides pull-through sites with water, electric, and sewer connections, remaining open from March through December, while seasonal access varies at other parks, with The Blue Canoe operating from May to October.

Full-service RV amenities differ significantly across these parks. Pine Cove Beach Club maintains modern hookups and trash pickup service, while most campgrounds offer 30/50-amp electrical options. Navigation to certain facilities requires careful routing, as one visitor advised: "Follow the signs to the campground NOT the GPS in order to avoid some narrow and sharp turn roads." Several parks provide sanitary dump stations, though availability varies seasonally. Highway noise affects some locations, particularly the Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA which sits adjacent to an interstate. Pet-friendly options exist at most parks, with designated dog areas at some facilities. Reservations are recommended during summer weekends and fall foliage season.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

    Bear Run Campground

    Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

    Glade Farms Campground

    Quiet place to rest

We headed to ride the trails at big bear lake camplands and booked here considering a recent outbreak of covid at the lake. The on call staff met us at the gated community and helped us get situated on a shaded lot. Very nice and quiet with mostly seasonal or permanent snowbirds. Small pond/lake on the property and plenty of shade. The lot was a challenge to be centered and level which led to us exiting our camper downhill. The water access was in ground and I cant imagine a camping couple that's well beyond retirement finding that convenient but it didn't impact us. Pet friendly and large lots. Bathhouse was closed due to covid. No firewood at this campground to purchase but fire ring provided and picnic tables.

Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park

    Nice Pennsylvania State Park

Very large park with a variety of campsites ranging from tent, 20/30 amp, 50 amp, and yurts. Price is the same for all electric sites, regardless of amperage. There is a 40-foot maximum vehicle length allowed in the campground– not a problem for our 17-foot van but the staffer who checked us in remarked that many people come in with larger rigs trying to squeeze in and are unable to. We had no problem securing a site with no reservation on a Monday evening after Labor Day. Very close to two Frank Lloyd Wright properties– Kentuck Knob and the more widely known Falling Waters. Other things to do in or near the park include whitewater rafting, rail trail biking, hiking, zip-lining and touring Laurel Caverns. The nearby town of Ohiopyle has many outfitters and several restaurants. The sites are all located on roads leading off the main road; we stayed in a 20/30amp site on Cherry Road (Site 49). It was right next to the bathroom which was good and bad. Good for proximity but bad because we could hear the hum quite clearly. Also, the door to the women’s room would hit you in the rear quite forcefully unless you held onto it (it took me three times to remember to do this)! There was a dishwashing sink in the women’s room (and I’m assuming in the men’s room?); it was very clean, but the only downside was having to do the dishes by myself! Alcohol is prohibited. Only certain areas allow pets. Only one garbage/recycling station outside of the campground. Wood and ice are available 24/7 on the honor system– very nice not to have to wait until a host is on duty to get what you need. Quiet hours 9 pm-8 am, a bit longer than most campgrounds but except for some sites with campfires still burning with people talking, it was very quiet in this campground. Surprisingly strong cell signal for being deep in the woods.

    Outflow Camping

    Quiet campground

This is a lovely army corps of engineers campground. The sites are gravel and level. Most only have 30 amp electric hookup but water can be filled at the “gatehouse” (for lack of better description). There are 3-4 full hookup and a few 50 amp. It is well-maintained— lawns mowed, bathrooms cleaned, sites tidy. Bath house isn’t modern but showers are hot and have great pressure. Campground filled up on the weekend. The sites are a bit close to each other and are mostly sunny but it was quiet anyway. Lots of people fishing on the river—access right from the campground. Great Allegheny Passage trail also accessed from the campground. Boating on the lake too.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

Very friendly ownership. Always go out of their way to accommodate. Pleanty of very well maintaIned large sights all pull through. Great camp store, fire wood, fire rings, very clean facilities. Three large lakes, fishing. One of our very favorite places to camp with our 38 foot motorhome.

Guide to Venetia

The Venetia region sits at an elevation of 1,220 feet in southwestern Pennsylvania's rolling hills. Most campgrounds remain open from April through October, with several RV facilities available year-round. Local parks range from small family-operated sites to larger resort-style campgrounds with a diverse range of amenities for travelers seeking RV sites near Venetia, Pennsylvania.

What to do

Swimming and water activities: Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort features a large swimming pool with concession stand for summer visitors. "The pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites" make this a popular destination according to Heath T., who gave the park a five-star rating.

Biking on local trails: The Blue Canoe RV Resort offers direct access to the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail. "The GAP trail rolls right through the middle of this traditional KOA campground," notes reviewer Shari G., making it convenient for cyclists to access this popular rail-trail.

Star gazing opportunities: Benner's Meadow Run RV Campground provides a dedicated platform for night sky viewing. While one visitor mentioned "The star gazing platform leaves a lot to be desired and is in need of repair," the campground's location away from major light pollution makes it worth visiting for astronomy enthusiasts.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many visitors appreciate well-maintained bathrooms and common areas. At Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins, a camper noted it was "Great camp ground! Lake and scenery was beautiful! Very clean and friendly help!"

Spacious sites: Some campgrounds offer more room between neighbors. At Benner's Meadow Run, Emily L. found "large spots to space out in" during their late-season visit, mentioning "It was relaxing and quiet" with enough room for their two large dogs.

Easy highway access: Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA receives praise for its convenient location. As Candi S. wrote in her review, the campground offers "Easy highway access great for overnight travel," making it a practical stopover for RVers passing through the region.

What you should know

Terrain challenges: Many campgrounds in this hilly region have elevation changes that can affect accessibility. At Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, a recent visitor reported: "The hills were terrible getting there, then another hill to get to the KOA, then ANOTHER hill to get to our site."

Seasonal operation: Most parks have limited operating seasons. The Blue Canoe RV Resort typically operates from May through mid-October, while Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA extends slightly longer, from March through December.

Additional fees: Some parks charge extra for activities. At Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins, one camper warned: "Austin lake offers plenty of fun with the lake. Kayaking, inflatables, beach, but almost anything you want to do will cost you an additional charge."

Site levelness: Finding a level site can be challenging in this region. According to a recent visitor at Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, "A dozen or so of the sites are not level, not only that but they are narrow and where you sit is a slope making it very uncomfortable."

Tips for camping with families

Look for multiple playgrounds: Some campgrounds offer several play areas across the property. Benner's Meadow Run RV Campground features extensive family-friendly amenities. "Great place for kids! Family friendly atmosphere, cordial staff, well run campground. Lots of activities. Tree shaded sites!" reports Rob B.

Consider campgrounds with organized activities: Benner's Meadow Run RV Campground schedules regular events for younger campers. "We've been camping here for years. They are family oriented and not looking for large/loud groups... They even have entertainment and Saturday night was a fun DJ," shared Mark E.

Check for water features: Austin Lake RV Park provides multiple water-based options for children. As one camper described, they have "a swimming area with inflatables, kayak, pontoon, and paddle boarding rentals, a bumper boat area, small lake where you can fish and boat."

Tips from RVers

Verify route access: RVers should confirm navigation instructions before arrival. At Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, Brandy S. advises: "Follow the signs to the campground NOT the GPS in order to avoid some narrow and sharp turn roads."

Check cell reception: Connectivity varies significantly between RV sites near Venetia, Pennsylvania. At Austin Lake, one visitor mentioned "No phone service at all, no matter the carrier," while another camper at Benner's Meadow Run reported "Wifi was good enough to work and stream Netflix."

Consider site placement: RV campers seeking privacy should research site locations carefully. Michael and Betty L. found Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort offered "large sites, close to the highway but no road noise," making it suitable for those who want both accessibility and quiet.
