Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hollidaysburg, PA

Several RV parks surround the Hollidaysburg area with varying levels of accommodation for recreational vehicles. Raystown Lake / Saxton KOA at Four Seasons provides year-round access with full hookup sites including 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Friendship Village Campground & RV Park near Bedford offers spacious gravel pads suitable for larger motorhomes, complete with full hookups and cable TV connections. For travelers seeking sites with more separation, Greene Hills Family Campground maintains 70 RV-compatible spaces with electric and water hookups, though without sewer connections at individual sites. James Creek RV Resort features pull-through RV pads accessible via drive-in routes, eliminating the need for difficult backing maneuvers. "Sites are very spacious and the gravel pad was level upon parking. Good connections and solid cable."

Seasonal availability varies significantly across the region, with most campgrounds operating from April through October, while select facilities like Friendship Village remain open year-round. Many parks require advance reservations during summer weekends and fall foliage season when occupancy rates peak. The terrain throughout the area presents occasional challenges for larger rigs, with some campgrounds situated on hillsides necessitating careful leveling. One visitor noted that "the sites weren't so level, but we made it work" when describing Nature's Getaway RV Park. Sanitary dump stations are available at most locations, though travelers should note that not all sites include sewer hookups. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with designated dog areas at several parks including a specialized enclosure at Timber Run Campground. Full-service RV dealerships operate near some campgrounds, offering emergency parts and repair services for travelers experiencing mechanical difficulties.

    Twin Bridge Campground

    Great Site, Great Staff

Took our new Fifth Wheel for a shakedown trip and decided to try Twin Bridges Campground. Staff was polite, amenities are great and clean, and everyone was friendly and polite. Big spacious sites, and a honeywagon to make things easier (there weren't any full hookup sites the I saw besides the long term spaces). Would definatley stay here again.

    Black Moshannon State Park Campground

    No cell, no problem!

General: 73-site campground; most have electric hookups, and some are FHU. Pets are only permitted at selected sites. There are also 20 (13 rustic and 6 modern) cabins. Cell service is extremely limited to non-existent (Verizon).

Site Quality: Pads are gravel and most appeared to be level. Site 70 was at the end of the loop which is why we picked it. A picnic table, fire ring, and lantern hook complete each site.

Bathhouse: As has been our experience in all PA state parks, the bathhouse was pristine, and the shower (for no additional cost) was clean with plentiful hot water and was very much appreciated.

Activities/Amenities: Coin-operated laundry. A playground is in the campground and there is an additional one at the swimming beach. The swimming beach is open from mid-May to mid-September, from 8 am– sunset. Electric motorboats are permitted on Moshannon Lake. Boat rentals are available in season. Permits are required. 24 miles of hiking trails, including two trails directly from the campground to the lake. In the summer, there is a camper store/concession stand. Hunting is allowed in season. There are 4.3 miles of mountain biking trails.

I used to think Oregon State Parks were the best, but Pennsylvania State Parks have them beat by a mile. We have yet to be disappointed by the amenities(especially the clean bathrooms) offered at the half-dozen state parks we have visited so far.

    Cowans Gap State Park Campground

Great state park in southern PA.

We stayed in camping area A during mid April this year. It was a nice state park. Hiking, fishing, a lake, long creek. Clean bathrooms, heated bathhouse. Our site was #80 and had electric on it, water was just across the road. It was level, with a picnic table and fire ring. The ground was some pretty aggressive gravel, but it kept the ground pretty dry, and it had rained a fair amount in the days before we arrived. Very spotty cell service with T-Mobile. Some spots were more level than others, and others, some looked tricky for larger trailers. Weather was all over the place (as to be expected in this area in mid April. Had all four seasons in 5 days. Would revisit for sure. Totally forgot pictures of the site, but it was pretty typical for a state campground.

    Top 5 Campground in PA

This campground is located on the east side of Pennsylvania and offers a beautiful view of Lake Raystown. The campground has over 200 sites to choose from, and many of them are right on the water. There are also plenty of activities to keep you busy, including swimming, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing and my favorite thing to do Mt Biking. Raystown lake is also a really nice boating lake. The lake is a natural beauty with so many coves and inlets for the biggest of boats to enjoy. They do have a camping resort on the other side of the lake which makes it nice for anyone looking for rustic cabins or cabin rentals.

There are 50 miles of single track mountain biking at this campground. They are some of the best flow trails on the East coast and are the# 1 trail system in Pennsylvania. This is a family friendly campground and has so much to offer. There are volleyball nets, playgrounds, kayak and paddleboard rentals. The kids took a kayak over to an island and spent the afternoon cliff jumping with a 10 ft and 25 ft cliff to launch off of. The sites here are some of the nicest we have ever seen. They are all big and private with stunning views of Raystown Lake. There are steps down from your camper to a pad with a fire pit and area for a tent. You are literally 10 feet away from the water as you enjoy a sunset while sitting around the fire. The lake is a great place to kayak, paddleboard, or just relax and enjoy the view. We love coming here and spending our weekends on the lake. All tent sites are equipped with picnic tables and most sites are electric. looking for other epic reviews check out the top ten campgrounds in PA https://www.longdaycampingco.com/post/10-best-campsites-in-pennsylvania-gorgeous-sites-to-enjoy-the-outdoors

    Black Moshannon State Park Campground

    Beautiful and well appointed park

Getting to the park had some sharp turns and windy roads.  Small campground but nicely equipped.  2 bath houses were dated but clean.  Nice playground at the campground and also one at the beach.  Small camp concessions with a few camping items as well as ice cream cones.  Great hiking and a beautiful lake for kayaking.  Site 22 is a full hookup.  Utilities worked nicely.  However, our picnic table had seen better days.  The site sat down off the road but once you were backed in the spot it was pretty level.  This site also had a separate tent pad located down a few stone steps.  Verizon and AT&T cell service were basically non existent.  Every once in a while a text would come in or send but very spotty.  Sorry I failed to get a pic of the site in the daylight.  It was spacious and we had plenty of room for our 30' trailer, truck, and easy up over the table.  6+ chairs around the fire pit, cooking ring could have been better.  Grassy area for cornhole or playing.

    Quemahoning Family Recreation Area

    Enjoyable family campground

Quemahoning Family Recreation Area offers great fishing, some nice trails and generally wonderful weather during the summer season.  The campground offers some sites with electrical and others with varying primitive services.  The campground has a bathroom with showers (2 for men, 2 for women).  The result is there are sometimes lines waiting for a shower to be available.  There is a camp store where wood, ice and fishing supplies are available.  There is no trash service;  campers are expected to carry out their trash.  Campsites do have fire rings, a picnic table and parking available.  The campgrounds are pet friendly.  Boats are available to rent.  If you bring your own power needs to be electric only.

    Blue Knob State Park Campground

    Beautiful mountain campground

small quiet campground with room for tents and travel trailers at most sites. Two walk in sites that are less than 100 yards off the access road. These two site however are along the main road into the campground so you get a lot of vehicle traffic noise.

Bike trails come directly through the park making it simple to go for a ride but the trails are not for the weak. Lots of climbing or descending and fairly rocky. The trails also lead to the peak (second highest in PA) and join up with trails on the resorts property.

showers and bathrooms and a pool at the bottom of the mountain (5 min drive)

ski resort at the peak with a bar and golf course.

Wonderful & well taken care of.

Great clean campground, easy to maneuver with a big rig, level sites, clean restrooms and shower rooms. Lots of great hiking, footpath around the park layered with recycled rubber was great to walk on. A shout out to the Army Corps of Engineers for a fantastic park and lake!

Crooked Run Campground — Prince Gallitzin State Park

    Quiet and peaceful

This campground is perfect for people who are looking to get away from busy city life or just want to relax next to a lake. Even though you can't see the lake from every site you can be there within a 10 minute walk. They have pet friendly sites, bike trails, and you can canoe, kayak, and take boats out on the lake. There are specific swimming areas and you can fish just about anywhere. Little to no cell service and there are some local stores/restaurants around the lake within 5-10 miles of the campground but most things close between 8-10pm. There is a camp store with food and supplies available sonif you show up with a text and a sleeping bag they can help out with the rest. Keep in mind being in the woods and by the lake it Ian always 5-15 degrees cooler than the surroundings towns so I feel you are leaving and want to explore the areas outside the campground be prepared for it to be much warmer than expected. I've been going here my whole life (32 years) and it is always clean and the people who work/volunteer there are super friendly and helpful. I've been there during every month they are open and each season is a new and exciting experience. They have a lot I feel family oriented activities and so you don't need to leave to find something to do.

Guide to Hollidaysburg

Camping areas near Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania sit within the Allegheny Mountains at elevations ranging from 1,100 to 1,500 feet. The region experiences distinct seasonal changes with moderate summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during peak camping season. Several campgrounds in the surrounding area operate on hillside terrain requiring leveling equipment for comfortable setup.

What to do

Fishing at Raystown Lake: Multiple access points available within 15-20 minutes of Timber Run Campground. "We fished at Tautman Run and Aitch - both were accessible and had lots of bluegill to steal our worms," notes a visitor at Timber Run Campground.

Hiking nearby trails: Prince Gallitzin State Park offers several hiking routes surrounding the 1,635-acre Glendale Lake. A camper mentions, "We couldn't see the lake from the camper, but in the woods we could see the lake and the camper from the same spot," highlighting the proximity to water views at Crooked Run Campground.

Water recreation options: Raystown Lake provides opportunities for boating and swimming from April through October. "The campground is a short drive to Raystown Lake in Saxton, PA which is beautiful and very big. The campground is in the middle of nowhere but if you like the outdoors, I recommend it," reports a guest staying at Raystown Lake/Saxton KOA.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain high standards for bathrooms and common areas. A visitor at Raystown Lake/Saxton KOA states, "It is still a small family run and family friendly campground, it still has a pool the is as clean as they come (they may have added a new liner, not sure) and they still maintain it like it is being inspected the next day."

Weekend activities: Organized events provide entertainment throughout the camping season. "We stayed during Bigfoot weekend. It was super fun as our family likes bigfoot fun. We started out Friday night getting the offered $12 bbq plate that included pork burnt ends, beans and potato salad that were 'oh it's so good'," shares a camper from Four Seasons at Raystown Lake.

Quiet weekday camping: Less crowded conditions prevail during weekdays at most rv parks near Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. "After the weekend though, all the activity slows down. There are seasonal campers that stay around, and they're constantly working on improving and fixing up sites during the week. Expect lots of quiet time just relaxing," according to a Timber Run Campground guest.

What you should know

Terrain challenges: Many campgrounds feature sloped sites requiring preparation. A visitor to Nature's Getaway RV Park reports, "We got the pull through at the end of one loop so we could face the woods. The site wasn't so level, but we made it work."

Highway noise: Some Hollidaysburg area RV accommodations experience road noise from nearby transportation routes. A camper at Friendship Village notes, "The only thing we didn't like was all of the road noise. This campground is located by 2 major highways and truck traffic and Jake brake are constant all night long."

Arrival coordination: Campground office hours vary with some closing at 5 pm. "We called to make the reservation and told them we would be pulling in around 7 pm. Danielle (one of the owners) stated no problem, I will be here. On arrival we noticed the hours were till 5 pm and we apologized," explains a visitor to Honey Bear Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Multiple playgrounds: Larger campgrounds offer various play areas distributed throughout the property. At Friendship Village Campground & RV Park, "There are 3 play grounds all different and all well kept," according to a recent camper.

Recreation amenities: Swimming pools typically operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day with limited hours. "The pool hours are a little later than most campgrounds as they open at 11 through the week and 12 on Sunday," notes a Friendship Village visitor discussing their facilities.

Educational opportunities: Some parks coordinate with regional educational programs for children. "Sunday we had pancakes and later a visit from RayCEP which is an education program that PA DNCR provides talking about various outdoorsy type things. This is primarily for kids, but we sat and listened too," shares a family from Timber Run Campground.

Tips from RVers

Reservation timing: Book well in advance for summer weekends and holiday periods, especially at Honey Bear Campground where capacity is limited. "Nice Sites, both RV and tent as well as cabins. I know my opinion is biased, but I keep coming back because it is so great," mentions a seasonal worker.

Leveling preparation: Bring leveling blocks for RV sites throughout the Hollidaysburg Pennsylvania rv park region. "Our site is not level but Terri had made ramps so that the front end would come up," explains a Honey Bear Campground visitor describing how staff assisted with the uneven terrain.

Route planning: Consider alternative access routes to avoid difficult mountain roads when pulling larger rigs. "If traveling from the Altoona area, go out through Martinsburg over Cove Mountain Rd - it saves you 30 minutes to an hour," advises a camper at Timber Run, providing a specific shortcut for easier travel with recreational vehicles.
