Thousand Trails Hershey operates as a first-come, first-served campground where reservations guarantee a site but not a specific location. Sites include full hookups with electric, water, and sewer connections, plus picnic tables and fire pits. The campground spans a large area with gravel roads and asphalt sections, tucked behind farmland away from main road traffic noise.
Campers navigate multiple loops with alphabetical designations, though some roads serve dual purposes as both entry and exit routes. Sites vary considerably in levelness, with several reviewers noting uneven parking areas that require leveling blocks. The spacing between sites draws mixed reactions—some find adequate room while others report overhearing neighbors' conversations around evening campfires. Jennifer N. notes "Thousand Trails Hershey is huge" with extensive amenities for longer-term visitors.
The campground features an indoor hot tub open to ages 16 and older, plus seasonal outdoor pool facilities. A camp store stocks essentials with limited weekday hours, and recreational options include tennis courts, mini golf, basketball courts, and an arcade center. The on-site pond supports fishing and small boat access but prohibits swimming due to heavy vegetation growth. Multiple bathhouses serve the loops with clean facilities, though some feature push-button water controls that require constant pressure during use.
Access requires driving through rural areas with adequate road width for large RVs, though maneuvering within the campground presents challenges. Some sites barely accommodate big rigs, forcing tow vehicles to park partially on narrow access roads. An overflow area handles extra vehicles and tow dollies to reduce visual clutter. The campground operates seasonally from mid-April through October, with rates ranging $50-60 per night regardless of hookup type. For additional camping choices in the region, campers can explore places to camp around Mount Gretna. This setup works well for families prioritizing amenities and proximity to Hershey attractions over traditional outdoor camping experiences.
