Best Cabin Camping near Tigard, OR

Cabins near Tigard offer private lodging options at several area campgrounds, with varied accommodation types available within an hour's drive. Silver Falls State Park provides rustic cabins with electricity, heat, lights, and comfortable beds. Champoeg State Heritage Area features heated yurts with small tables, a couch, and bunk beds for sleeping arrangements. "The cabin was very clean and well kept. The cabin was nearby a few other similar cabins, but everything felt very private," notes one visitor about Smith Creek Village at Silver Falls. Oxbow Regional Park and Mt. Hood Village Resort also offer cabin options with varying amenities and proximity to natural attractions.

Options range from tiny log cabins to spacious family-sized layouts. Battle Ground Lake State Park Campground, located in Washington but accessible from Tigard, offers pet-friendly cabins in more secluded settings. The standard cabins at Mt. Hood Village Resort provide actual beds and space for gear but lack private bathrooms. Most cabins require advance reservations, particularly during summer months when availability becomes limited. A recent review mentioned, "The cabins are small but comfortable with heat, lights, and beds. Covered porch is nice to sit and listen to the rain." Most cabins include basic furnishings but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities vary significantly between locations—some cabins feature microwaves while others provide only outdoor fire pits with grills. According to feedback on The Dyrt, "We stayed in a rustic cabin at this park and it was perfect. Two full beds and two small bunks make for an affordable spot for friends to gather." On-site stores at locations like Mt. Hood Village Resort offer essentials and basic provisions, though prices tend to be higher than at grocery stores in nearby communities. Firewood is typically available for purchase at most cabin campgrounds, with fire restrictions varying seasonally.

    Champoeg State Heritage Area Campground

Good for biking, heated yurts, smaller tent spots

We've been here 3 times, once for tent camping and twice in a yurt. The yurts are heated, and a couple of them are pet friendly, which is great for us! There is a small table in each yurt. Theres a couch and a bunk bed for sleeping arrangements, with the lower bunk larger than the top bunk. Great walking trails and day use areas, and our favorite thing about this place is biking on the biking trails surrounding the area. Beautiful and close to civilization for a quick and low key camping trip. Great for beginner campers and families!

Lost Lake Resort And Campground — Mt. Hood National Forest

Beautiful, well maintained, generous sized campsites

Tent sites are large and spaced out so your not right next to your neighbors. It’s a little bit of a walk to the lake but enjoyable. We stayed in the A-frame cabin which is right off the parking lot so can be busy but is a generous size lot and has some shrubbery and trees for privacy. there’s a trail out right out the back of the lot. The cabin is small and rustic. Non motorized lake. Canoe, paddle board and boat rentals available and I highly recommend.

    Oxbow Regional Park

Close to the city with awesome playgrounds

The park just added two nature playgrounds that are pretty fantastic. One of the new playgrounds, right before the boat launch, features a trail with a mud kitchen, two a-frame tents and a big area where you can use fallen logs and branches to build shelters.

The other nature playground is right across from the old playground (still in use) and has a wooden water course with a hand pump and an elevated wooden plank course.

Camping can be a little loud since it's a popular spot and there are no pets allowed, but it's barely 30 minutes away from Portland and right on the Sandy River.

Smith Creek Village — Silver Falls State Park

    Very nice cabin getaway

Smith Creek Village is such a great place for easy lodging in nature. My family stayed in one of the tiny cabins. The cabin was very clean and well kept. The cabin was nearby a few other similar cabins, but everything felt very private. There was nice walking paths and a large grass area supplied with lawn games.

We decided to take the easy route this particular trip and ate all our meals at the Big Leaf Coffeehouse. The food there is fantastic and the building has a cozy lodge vibe.

Another thing that I loved about Smith Creek Village is that although the Silver Falls state park is always busy, Smith Creek Village is not. It feels like a hidden gem inside the state park. We definitely plan on coming back.

    Mt Hood Village Resort

The Ultimate Mt Hood Base Camp

Not my normal camping scene, but decided to for an early summer ski session with the kids, we didn't want to completely rough it, but also didn't want to pay hotel prices. So, one of the standard cabins here was the perfect compromise. Roof over our heads, actual beds, room for three of us to be able to gear up for the day. But still had a fire pit outside, and picnic table for outdoor cooking. (Also the standard cabins don't have bathrooms, so you still need to go to the shared restrooms.)

The property overall was really nice, lots of amenities. We also took a walk through the RV/Tent camp sites. Its very similar to a KOA style of resort. We enjoyed it for what it was.

Pros: Good lake to swim in, smaller state park so not too busy, kayaks you can rent, small playground if you have kids, pet frIendly cabIn I stayed In was faIrly secluded Cons: because it’s smaller, kids on bikes were on the road often so you have to be aware, only one shower stall in the restrooms

Smith Creek Village — Silver Falls State Park

    Cozy cabins, close to falls.

We stayed in a rustic cabin at this park and it was perfect. Two full beds and two small bunks make for an affordable spot for friends to gather. Book in advance because it fills up fast. The cabins are basic, but do have electricity. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The tent sites were pretty close to each other and there were a lot of kids. Walked to the waterfalls from the cabin in the early am, amazing!

Battle Ground Lake State Park Campground

Feels remote for being close to the city

BGLSP is a really lovely park not too far from Portland with camping and rustin cabins. Most of the campsites are large enough for 2 tents, and there were many RVs and popups - good size driveways/parking areas. Cabins C17 and C21 were the most private, though C13 and C15 had a partial view of the lake. Campsites 19 and 20 were really tucked back and adjoined such that two groups could spread out. There is only one bathroom for the entire camping/cabin area, and it got pretty dirty/crowded at times, so that wasn't ideal. I would also recommend checking out the water quality information before going if you plan to do water sports or swimming. There was a high bacteria advisory when we went, so swimming was discouraged. We ended up going to nearby Klineline Pond to swim instead. There is a nice little concession stand, though, and they offer SUP and kayak rentals that looked nice.

Lost Lake Resort And Campground — Mt. Hood National Forest

Gorgeous!! Bring hiking shoes & a headlamp.

The only thing missing from this amazing camping spot is electricity and running water. Otherwise, it’s perfect! Absolutely gorgeous view of Mt. Hood, tons of hiking, a beautiful lake and camping spots for everyone. They have walk-in spots, yurts, a-frames, RV spots, a horse camp and even a few rooms at the lodge. Make sure to spend at least 3-4 days!

Guide to Tigard

Cabin accommodations near Tigard provide overnight shelter in several state parks and recreation areas within a 40-mile radius. Most cabin sites require advance booking through reservation systems, particularly during peak summer months from June through August. Winter cabin camping remains available at select locations including Mt. Hood Village Resort where seasonal rates decrease by approximately 20-30%.

What to do

Hiking accessible trails: At Oxbow Regional Park, campers can explore multiple walking paths without traveling far from their cabins. "There are plenty of hiking, swimming, and fishing through the park. It's truly a great oasis just outside of Portland," notes Blaine B. The park's 1,000 acres contain both river access points and forest trails suitable for all skill levels.

Mountain biking adventures: Cabin guests at Mt Hood Village Resort have direct access to premiere cycling opportunities. "Right across Hwy 26 is some of the best Mountain Biking in the country at the Sandy Ridge Trail System," reports Joel H. The resort serves as a convenient base camp for both casual and technical riding within a 30-minute drive from Tigard.

Water activities: Swimming options exist near many cabin locations during summer months. At Battle Ground Lake State Park, "There's a volcanic lake with a swimming area and great fishing. Its like a mini crater lake," according to Ashley Y. The swimming areas typically include roped sections for safer water recreation.

What campers like

Privacy between cabins: Battle Ground Lake State Park Campground offers secluded cabin settings with adequate space between structures. "Very peaceful. Love that it is close to town and you feel like you are out in the woods," explains Lauri R. The cabins here are situated away from the main campground areas, providing increased separation.

Heated accommodations: Winter camping becomes more comfortable in climate-controlled cabins. At Champoeg State Heritage Area Campground, "The yurts are heated, and a couple of them are pet friendly, which is great for us," says Lana N. These units maintain consistent interior temperatures regardless of outside weather conditions.

Proximity to water features: Many campers appreciate cabins with streamside locations. "We were in site T4. In my opinion it's the best site in the circle," recommends Tyson C. about Mt Hood Village Resort's cabin placement. Water access points provide both recreational opportunities and pleasant natural sounds during overnight stays.

What you should know

Limited bathroom facilities: Some cabin areas share communal restrooms rather than providing private facilities. At Dairy Creek West — L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park, "There are pit toilets available: aka, outhouses. The doors lock, there's hand sanitizer provided," explains Nathan R. Shower facilities may require walking several hundred feet from cabin locations.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some cabin locations more than others. "You do have to drive or walk a ways to the river which has a day use area with bbqs & picnic tables," mentions Fatima H. about Paradise Point State Park's layout. Traffic sounds can interfere with the outdoor experience at several locations.

Booking requirements: Reservation windows open 6-9 months in advance for most cabin facilities. "Most sites had reserved signs for the upcoming weekend," observes Stephanie Z. about Oxbow Regional Park's popularity. Last-minute cabin availability becomes extremely limited during summer weekends and holiday periods.

Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds and recreation: Silver Falls State Park Campground provides cabin access plus dedicated children's play areas. "We love hiking the trails and our kids love the playground and river swimming!" shares April F. The structured recreation spaces offer supervised activity options within walking distance from cabin accommodations.

Safety considerations: Life jackets and water safety equipment should accompany families planning water activities. "The day use area also provides life jackets if you forget yours," mentions Fatima H. about Paradise Point State Park. Most locations enforce strict swimming area boundaries during peak seasons.

Meal planning limitations: Cabin cooking facilities vary significantly between locations. "The yurts have a small table in each yurt. Theres a couch and a bunk bed for sleeping arrangements," explains Lana N. about Champoeg State Heritage Area. Many cabins lack indoor cooking capabilities, requiring outdoor meal preparation regardless of weather conditions.

Tips from RVers

Site accessibility: Cabin locations at some parks present challenges for larger vehicles. "The tent sites were a bit close to the other sites, but still large enough for a few tents if needed. There was only 1 parking lot for the tent/cabin spaces, so had to carry all my stuff about 100 feet," advises Ashley B. about Champoeg State Heritage Area Campground's layout.

Seasonal operations: Winter cabin options decrease significantly between November and March. "We stayed here for 3 weeks. RV park is clean and recently new. Very quiet at night," reports Ward B. about Dundee Hills Resort's year-round operation. Off-season cabin rates typically decrease by 30-40% compared to summer pricing, but fewer amenities remain available.
