    Rujada Campground

    Excellent Vintage Camp

    I had a great experience here The campground was clean, the leave no trace policy is followed here. Quiet hours are 10pm - 6am, it was quiet even during the non-quit hours. Very private. There are running water spigots strategically placed throughout the camp, each water station has a waste water dump, and trash can. There are flush toilets with running, a sink and trash can. The garbage was picked up daily. Each site was a tent pad, fire pit and large table. Each site was very private, I couldn't see the other campers unless they were passing by our site. There is no internet, no electricity, and no showers, bring your own. The only negative was the mosquitos - easily resolved with a netted day tent or pop-up with mesh. Laying Creek sounds heavenly all throughout the camp, the trails are great to walk, and you will eventually wander to a swimming hole. Beautiful campground, with a great history going back to 1933. Highly recommend!

    Loon Lake Lodge and RV Resort

    3.5/5 - not bad for a quick getaway

    The website was not kidding about not following the directions through Google Maps. The last 9 miles to the resort was really trying - the roads were narrow, twisty and winding. If you are probe to car-sickness, go slow. I took extra precaution and dabbed essential oils on myself and my children.

    Our pull-through site was in the Upper Marina, #22. If you have an extra canopy for camping, I'd suggest you bring it. It got really HOT when we were there. The good news is once the sun sets behind the trees, around 6pm, it makes eating dinner at the picnic table so comfortable and cooling.

    My husband and children perused the bathroom/shower facilities which was just across from our campsite. He said it was spacious - a shower + private bathroom + sink setup and wide enough for a family.

    Access to the swimming beach/boat launch is just a short 3 minutes walk. You just have to exercise caution because you will be crossing a main road (cars and big logging trucks rumble along often enough during the week).

    The swimming (sandy) beach is cosy (read: tiny). There are no lifeguards on duty but enough trees offering shade for parents/families to sit back and keep watch.

    You would have to drive back 5 minutes down the road to visit the Lodge for supplies or ice. The Lodge also provides some light refreshments* (deli sandwiches and ice-cream).

    Our site offered full hook-ups including cable (limited channels). WIFI* was a disappointment though - we had to create an account for a complimentary hour of WIFI usage every day. Together with the zero cell reception, it renders us completely off the grid. It's great really to totally relax your mind and body but it is worrisome for that what-if's scenarios.

    *Ice-cream was very pricey for the single not-generous scoop in a plastic cup that we bought for each of us. Because of the steep prices and WIFI availability (you have to pay if you want to get connected), I could only give a rating of 3.5/5 stars.

    Otherwise, we had a great time at the RV resort. The sites are appealing for huge family reunion (we witnessed such a reunion during our trip). We will be back! 😊

    We are a family of 4 (2 young boys with no pets). We traveled with a travel trailer.

    Umpqua's Last Resort & Oregon Mountain Guides

    An adventure and accommodation for everyone!

    General: Located just across the street from the North Umpqua River, there is a mix of:•

    * petite RV sites (RVs up to 20’ with FHU 20-30 amp- 3)

    * deluxe RV sites (RVs up to 29’ with FHU 30-50 amp- 5)

    * Super RV sites (RVs up to 60’ with FHU 50 amp- 7)

    * glamping tents (7)

    * cabins with heat and A/C(4)

    * a cottage

    * a tiny home

    * camper

    * retro bunkhouse

    * retro RV

    Site Quality: We were in a deluxe RV site that had a level gravel camper pad, electric hookup, fire ring, and picnic table. Unlike most RV parks, there was a decent amount of foliage between most sites to provide a measure of privacy.

    Bath/Shower House: Two toilets, two sinks, and two showers. Clean but limited privacy for the toilets with just a curtain. Bench and hooks are outside of showers with no other separation so there is a lack of privacy there as well (did not use the shower so I cannot comment on how well it worked, although they looked nice).

    Activities/Amenities:

    * Guided and Self-guided hiking tours

    * Guided and self-guided mountain bike tours

    * a full-day waterfall tour ($75 pp, with 24-hour advance notice)

    * whitewater rafting tours

    * Stream and river fishing holes

    * Fly fishing and hunting

    * Kayak rentals on Toketee Lake (We had hoped to do this, but the weather had other plans)

    * Wi-Fi is available for $2.99 per 24-hour period per device but it was flaky at best

    * There is a store with ice, firewood, food, beer, and wine, apparel, propane, diesel, and gasoline, rafts, and sleds.

    We arrived later than planned (just before dark) and it was cold and rainy the next day so we were not able to take advantage of the many nearby recreation activities but the staff recommended a nearby waterfall hike that we could do in inclement weather. We would definitely consider returning during better weather.

    Whistlers Bend County Park

    Pretty, popular campground near Roseburg, OR

    This lovely county park campground near Roseburg offers trees, shade from the summer heat, and scenery, but I'm giving it 3 stars for being crowded and somewhat noisy. I admit I was there during peak season, and spent only 1 night, but found that my tent site lacked privacy, and the structure of the gravel road and pull-ins was such that almost every site (except for 1 perimeter drive) was subject to regular vehicle and foot traffic. There is a large yurt for rent on one end of the campground, constructed on a spacious deck overlooking the creek. It appeared to be handicapped-accessible, but as I stood admiring it, I could hear traffic noise from the highway. In between my campsite and the Campground Host's was a camper full of kids in their tweens, who started roaming the small campground after 10pm, making loud, obnoxious noises and laughing hysterically at themselves. When this went on for nearly half an hour with no intervention from adults, I did shout "SHUT UP!" at them after they passed my site and seemed to direct a shout at my tent. They stopped after that, but I hated to be That Person. There were flush toilets, running water, and showers. Bathrooms had neither soap nor paper towels or a working blow-dryer for your hands, so be a good scout and go prepared!

    Osprey Point RV Resort

    Beautiful Setting

    Spent three days here and had a great time. Staff was helpful and let us change sites when we arrived to a better location. Nicely stocked store and restaurant on site. Fishing and boating at your door. Our site was a little unlevel, but ok. Appears to be alot of long termers at the rear of the park. Very close to the town of Lakeside, which has a grocery store for supplies. Bathrooms were clean and well kept. We'll going going back.

    COE Dorena Reservoir Schwarz Campground

    Quiet campground, but watch for Algae

    One option when looking for a campground last minute during the summer close to Eugene, Oregon. This one is not usually very busy during peak season in my opinion.

    This is a primitive campground so no hook ups for your rv. Bring the generator if your needing a power source during the day.

    There are restrooms/ showers on site along with drinking water, a playground, and an rv dump station. Picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Trails are nearby along with a beach/ swimming area at Dorena Lake. Watch for signs of Algae or Swimmers Itch as it has been present the past few years at Dorena Lake.

    Overall its a great last minute campground not far from town ( Cottage Grove- Eugene), but doesn't make my list of top 5 if I can make reservations a head of time.

    Umpqua Lighthouse State Park Campground

    Dog Friendly Deluxe Yurt

    For a small campground the deluxe yurts were huge. Much larger than the rustic yurts available in other Oregon State parks, the deluxe yurt had acres of space. The kitchen had an almost full sized fridge, a microwave, and a sink. The shower in the bathroom was not as nice as in the deluxe cabins elsewhere, but there was plenty of towel bars to dry all of your gear on. The small heater had a hard time heating all of the space. The large skylight had lovely star viewing when the clouds cleared. Since it was the middle of the week in February there was no noise from the surrounding ATV area, indeed, no ATVs around at all. The trail around tiny Lake Marie was well drained and not soggy, with several connections to the campground. Our yurt had views of the other yurts, try 19 for a view of the lake yet still dog friendly. The front porch did not offer any shelter from the rain.

    Secluded and Quiet

    Hike and bike area is down a short trail near the RV spots, but still quiet. Lots of trails taking you down to a river for canoeing and kayaking. Also within walking distance of the lighthouse. Tent spot has fire pit and table. Firewood, showers and restrooms available.

Guide to Oakland

This area features elevations ranging from 400-2,000 feet with Douglas fir forests dominating the landscape. Winter temperatures typically range from 35-55°F while summer months see 70-90°F with minimal rainfall between June and September.

What to do

Disc golf course adventures: Whistlers Bend County Park offers a championship-level disc golf course rated second in the nation. "Disc golf rated number 2 in nation. child play area and free parking for campers. You can apply for a veterans card and camp free," notes Tim W. The course features both long shots and technical wooded areas.

River swimming access: Susan Creek Campground provides direct river access for cooling off during summer months. "Fish or swim in the river, lots of recreational activities nearby. Clean and well kept with spacious campgrounds," explains Brittney G. The river access points often include small sandy beaches suitable for children.

Lake trail explorations: William M. Tugman State Park features a lakeside trail system for hiking. "There is a pretty lake trail and lots of recreation in the area," shares Amber B. These trails range from 1-3 miles and connect various parts of the campground to lake viewpoints.

Fishing opportunities: Whistlers Bend County Park offers prime fishing spots along the North Umpqua River. "The fishing is great and they have a boat ramp," reports Tim W. Anglers can target steelhead, trout, and salmon depending on seasonal runs.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Susan Creek Campground maintains exceptionally clean bathrooms and showers. "Maybe the best showers ever... extra nice campground along the North Umpqua. Many sites riverside, but from all the sounds of the river can be heard," notes Pam B. The bathrooms are regularly cleaned and stocked with supplies.

Spacious campsites: Loon Lake Lodge and RV Resort offers roomier glamping sites than typically found near Oakland, Oregon. "Bathrooms were close, also water between every two camp sites. Showers were pretty nice. The lake is absolutely amazing," shares Ashly P. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table.

Riverside camping: Susan Creek Campground features sites with river views and sounds. "When we first arrived we picked site 6 u have a good view of the river but its a small site.. the next day we moved campsites to #30 it was huge and as private as it came," explains Lanie G. These riverside sites fill quickly during summer months.

Family-friendly amenities: Tugman State Park provides facilities that appeal to families. "Have 16 yurts, 8 yurts pet friendly. Have a hiker/biker camp. Shower and restrooms, very clean," notes Cindy U. The playgrounds and open areas allow children to play safely away from roads.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most glamping options near Oakland require advance booking. "Book early because it fills up fast," advises Elsie H. regarding Whistlers Bend County Park. Reservations can typically be made up to 6 months in advance for peak summer weekends.

Site privacy considerations: Tugman State Park offers varying levels of site privacy. "The sites are kind of small for tent camping, and a few are a little too open for my taste, but our site had some lovely privacy hedges around it," shares Kendra L. Loops B and C generally offer more privacy than loop A.

Road access challenges: Some lakeside glamping options have difficult access roads. Regarding Loon Lake Lodge, Badariyah O. warns, "The website was not kidding about not following the directions through Google Maps. The last 9 miles to the resort was really trying - the roads were narrow, twisty and winding." Larger RVs may struggle on these narrow forest roads.

Highway noise factors: Some campgrounds have road noise despite natural settings. "The only drawback is that it is near enough to the highway that you can hear trucks and sometimes ATVs going by at night," notes Kendra L. about William M. Tugman State Park. Sites furthest from highways provide quieter experiences.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Whistlers Bend Park offers play structures near camping areas. "Large park with tent spaces, rv hookups, and yurts! Oak grassland doesnt provide very many bushes to hide behind, so absolute privacy is hard to achieve when the park is busy. Play structure for the little ones, boat ramp, waterfront sites," shares Brant T. The playground is centrally located within walking distance of most sites.

Bike-friendly loops: On The River Golf & RV Resort features paved paths ideal for younger cyclists. "Great location off the 5 and 42 if you're looking to get to the coast. Also right outside the city of Roseburg. They have a 6 hole 3 par golf course. The course and grounds are kept with fountains and beautiful flowers," explains Brose' Family V. These paths loop through the property without encountering vehicle traffic.

Swimming safety: Loon Lake Lodge provides designated swimming areas with gradual entry points. "The swim beach is small and the water is muddy, but the kids loved it. We rented a boat from the marina and spent most of one day on the water," notes Katie O. The swimming areas are marked and separated from boat traffic.

Yurt options: Many local parks offer yurt glamping near Oakland as alternatives to traditional tent camping. "We stayed in a yurt there. It was a nice mix of tent and rv camping. Nice and shady spots. The yurts were awesome," shares Robena M. about William M. Tugman State Park. Yurts typically sleep 5-6 people with futon beds and limited electricity.

Tips from RVers

Dump station availability: Understand which glamping sites provide sanitary facilities. "Have a nice night's sleep almost no noise. They now have 3 hurts, one overlooks the river in the newer camp area and the other 2 overlook the old camp area. They have a boat ramp and the fishing is good here," notes Tim W. about Whistlers Bend Park. The dump station is located near the campground entrance.

Site leveling requirements: Baker Bay Campgrounds & Marina requires preparation for uneven sites. "Dry Camping. Upside - Right on the lake and lots of spots with shade which would be good for summer heat," explains Mark W. Many sites require leveling blocks to properly position RVs.

Pull-through availability: On The River Golf & RV Resort offers convenient pull-through sites. "Stayed for an overnight. Host is very friendly. A small park but easy access for large RV's," shares Marina C. These sites accommodate rigs up to 40 feet without disconnecting tow vehicles.

Hookup variations: Millsite RV Park provides full-service hookups for extended glamping stays near Oakland. "Small city owned park and campground beautifully run by long time, full time hosts!
