Best RV Parks & Resorts near Camp Sherman, OR

Camp Sherman provides several RV camping options including Cold Springs Resort with full hookups open from March to November. Bend/Sisters Garden RV Resort offers paved sites with full hookups, fire rings, and a catch-and-release fishing pond year-round. Crooked River Ranch RV Park features sites that back up against canyon rims with full hookup sites and picnic tables. Lake Simtustus RV Park accommodates larger rigs with full hookups, offering both waterfront locations and sites with canyon views. Site spacing varies between parks, with some offering more privacy than others. According to one visitor, "Very well kept and popular RV park in-between Bend and Sisters. Asphalt pads for RVs, a little close together to my liking, but excellent bathrooms, showers, playground, putt putt golf course."

Most RV parks in the region require advance reservations, especially during summer months and fall foliage season. Many campgrounds offer on-site sanitary dump stations and propane services, with some even providing propane delivery to individual sites. Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with better coverage near Sisters and spottier reception in canyon locations. During peak summer months, fire restrictions may prohibit open flames at some locations, though propane grills are typically permitted. Pet policies differ between parks - several allow pets but have specific containment rules. A camper noted that at one location, "we were told in NO uncertain terms that dogs were NOT to be left in RV unattended, specifically, 'where you go, your dogs go', by the park host." Winter accessibility depends on elevation, with lower-elevation parks remaining open year-round while others close seasonally.

    Trout Creek

Quiet and Nice - Very Green

This campground in Willamette National Forest is operated by Linn County but is a forest service campground. It has narrow access road off hwy 20 but is paved.

The campground sits along Trout Creek and has semi private sites with picnic tables and fire pits. There are pits toilets and pump water and garbage cans throughout, no recycling.

Heavily shaded with sun peaking through throughout the day. Many sites available on Sunday morning when we were there and some pull throughs.

Reservations can be made but also there is first come first served. There is also a picnic and day use area as well.

    $20/night Open May 21st-Sept

    NO fires at this time

One bar ATT service but no TMobile or Verizon

    Pelton Park Campground

Great dog and family friendly campground

Pelton park was clean and well taken care of during our visit. The park is very family-friendly, with easy physical access to restrooms, the docks and playground equipment. Pet-friendly too, stocked poo bags, poles by restrooms to hold leashes and a small fenced-in area to let the dogs run and play. Docks were clean and safe. Rental boats were well-maintained. The yomes are small, 6 people and 2 dogs is tight and gear had to stay outside with that many people, but we all fit. The lake itself is beautiful, good fishing, and appreciate the 10mph speed limit throughout the majority of the lake.

    Allen Springs Campground

    Loved this spot!

Beautiful, peaceful campground open year round on the Metolius River, about 15 mins. from Camp Sherman store. Only a few sites are large enough for smaller trailers/RVs (7,11,12,9 &13). It’s mostly tent spots. No Verizon service but a 5 min drive back up the road to the view point gave me 2 bars to check in with family. Hiking trails start along the river from the campground. For a day hike I drove 40 mins from camp to Black Butte trailhead and hiked to the top. Amazing hike with epic views of the Cascade mountain range, although the trail was still pretty icy/snowy(bring yaks). I also drove to the Head of Metolius for a short stroll down to the river on the paved path. The camp ground water hadn’t been turned on yet and the vault toilets were well maintained. Fee was $19 per night.

Bend / Sisters Garden RV Resort

    Fantastic!

Beautiful, well-maintained park. Sites have paved, flat pads that are surrounded by grass and spacious. A park-like setting with a large pond, dog runs, frisbee golf, etc. lots of big rigs, but enough smaller ones so we felt comfortable. Ask for site away from main road.

    Deschute County Expo RV Park

    Good stopover spot

Very clean park. They were about half full when we were there and the noise level was very low. Not much of a long term spot, lots of movement in and out.

Showers and bathrooms were very clean and the sites we're very big. Lots of pull through spots. Good Verizon signal.

    Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver

    Beautiful location

Beautiful location with good sized camping spots for travel trailers and RVs. Almost all spots are wooded so shade is plentiful for hot Summer afternoons. Safe for bike rides in park with 5mph posted. Great location for easy access to Sunriver and Bend. Paulina Lake and East Lake are within a 30 minute drive for kayaking, fishing and hiking.

Electric (30 amp) and water at all spots. No sewer hookups. Internet works fairly well. Good cell phone reception for Verizon and ATT.

Facilities are decent, but need some care. Neither the pool nor laundry were available and no work is active to open either. Staff are friendly but management seems to be focused elsewhere.

    Smiling River Campground

    Right on the Metolius River

Smiling River campground is right on the Metolius River. There is a walking/fishing trail that runs along most of the river. The trail is walkable to the Camp Sherman Store. The road going through the campground is narrow for tow vehicles but if you go slow you will be fine. Sites have picnic table and fire pit with no water or electric hookups. Make sure and visit Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery that is north of the campground on the Metolius River. It is one of our favorites. We had no Verizon cell coverage.

    Whitcomb Creek County Park

Camping on a peninsula in the mist of Green Peter

Your in the woods at this location, bring your boats/canoe/kayak the reservoir is huge to explore.

The campground is only open in the summer and as of 2018 has some wonderful updates on Loop “A” and Loop “C” (new tables, and site pads, and fire rings). Loop “B” is still rustic and not a bad site to sit. There are a few Double site can hold two campers. There is not water or electricity, bring it in and pack it out. Can accommodate big rigs, or small tents. There are four pull through sites. Best to RSVP through ww.linnparks.com on popular weekends or take your change for any open sites, if no sites available head up Quartzville past mile marker 17 and park along the road for free, only where there are metal fire rings.

    Humbug Campground

    Love it here

Humbug is one of our favorite campgrounds. We love the easy access to the beach and the beautiful hikes.  Showers are hot and free, rangers are always friendly.

Cell service is pretty iffy here, but we manage to make it work with the cell booster.

There's a dump station and water fill, trash and recycling, water spigots throughout campground, and firewood for sale.

Tent sites in Oregon don't currently have the 25% non-resident surcharge (though I've heard that's changing soon) and there are plenty of non-hookup/tent sites that will fit RVs. There are also FHU and pull through sites.

Guide to Camp Sherman

Nestled along the pristine Metolius River at 3,000 feet elevation, Camp Sherman RV parks offer direct access to some of Central Oregon's most iconic fishing waters. The area sits within the ponderosa pine forests of the eastern Cascades, where summer temperatures typically range from 45-85°F. During peak season, most RV parks in Camp Sherman maintain noise curfews from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., ensuring peaceful camping experiences.

What to do

Trout fishing at stocked pond: Located at Cold Springs Resort, a convenient fishing spot for younger anglers. "This campground is a few minutes walking distance to a stocked pond that youth can fish in," notes Derek N. The resort also positions campers near the spring-fed Metolius River, creating "the perfect habitat for Trout, so bring your fishing gear."

Canyon exploration: Crooked River Ranch RV Park provides canyon-adjacent camping with accessible trails. "There's a nice walking trail (Matt's Trail) that takes you around the campground along the canyon edge (level: easy). There's also a BLM trail (Crooked River Trail) you can access from the campground that takes you down to the water (level: moderate to hard)," explains Kelsey G.

Putt-putt golf and recreation: Bend / Sisters Garden RV Resort includes family-friendly activities beyond standard camping. A visitor mentioned, "Great little mini golf course. The sites are updated, level and clean. Stayed an extra night since we liked it so much." The resort also features a "playground, putt putt golf course and, in the back, there's a very pretty lake."

What campers like

Bathing facilities: Many campers appreciate upgraded bathroom facilities at RV parks near Camp Sherman. At Bend / Sisters Garden RV Resort, one guest remarked, "Site 11 is perfect for those who prefer to be near a spa-like bath house in an RV park. Heated floors, huge showers. Fantastic." Another camper added, "The bathrooms are wonderful... The sites are updated, level and clean."

Waterfront options: Lake Simtustus RV Park offers waterside camping with various view options. "Stunning views from most sites (C and B groups are the best views). D is best for shade and A is down on the water," reports one visitor. For mobility assistance, they "provide golf carts at no extra charge to go up and down the hill!"

Spacious setups: Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver provides roomy campsites with natural settings. "The individual sites are pretty spacious and have a decent amount of trees," notes one camper. Another visitor mentioned, "Our 28 ft travel trailer easily fit with room to spare in our site."

What you should know

Propane services: Some RV parks offer convenient propane delivery directly to your campsite. A visitor to Bend-Sunriver noted, "One of my favorite perks was if you put out your propane tank in front of your spot, they'll pick it up, refill it and deliver back."

Seasonal closures: Cold Springs Resort operates from March through November 1, making it unavailable during winter months. The resort offers "spacious RV sites, cabins, bathrooms and showers" during operational months.

Pet policies: RV parks in the area maintain specific rules for pets. Crooked River Ranch RV Park allows pets but has designated areas. As one visitor mentions, "We walked Matt's Trail that goes around the park. CRR does not provide a map of Matt's trail... Be sure to keep your dogs on a leash due to the cliffs and possible critters."

Tips for camping with families

Bike-friendly areas: Some campgrounds provide bicycles for guest use. At Cold Springs Resort, "There are a handful of kids and adult bikes you can use," making it convenient for families who don't bring their own.

Swimming options: Look for RV parks with pools to keep children entertained. Lake Simtustus RV Park has "boat slips, pontoon boats and kayaks to rent," providing water recreation for families. Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver features "bunnies, bullfrogs, mini-golf, a great little river to float on or swim in, ladderball, bingo, movies outside, and some pretty great pools!"

Space for games: Crooked River Ranch RV Park offers "tent sites surround a nice green space with a covered gazebo patio," providing room for family activities. Another campground provides "amazingly soft parade grounds for for tons of outdoor games."

Tips from RVers

Camp positioning: At some RV parks, experienced campers recommend specific orientation for best views. At Crooked River Ranch, "a lot of campers pull-in the opposite direction so their back window faces the picturesque mountains."

Water and sewer connections: Hookup placement varies significantly between parks. One RVer at Lake Simtustus noted, "I will say that if the hookup was on the other side of the site I'd have had a much better view."

Shower requirements: Bring quarters if planning to use shower facilities. A visitor to Crooked River Ranch mentioned, "My only issue was the bathrooms were clean and great but you needed quarters to take a shower. I don't carry quarters and usually only use them for laundry but add the shower fee to that it was easily 6-8$ in quarters."
