    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Several RV campgrounds operate within 30 miles of Youngstown, offering varied site options for motorhomes and travel trailers. Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground in Hubbard provides 115 sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups from May through October. RV Village Camping Resort in Mercer, Pennsylvania accommodates big rigs with 50-amp service and full hookups on sites open April through October. At Kenisee's Grand River Campground in Geneva, RVers find 50-amp electric service and sewer connections, though some sites require leveling blocks on gravel pads. Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake in Jefferson features both back-in and pull-through sites with water and electric hookups. "Most sites are 30 amp with a few 50 amp. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded," noted one camper.

Dump stations are available at most parks, though wait times can extend during peak checkout periods. Cell service varies significantly across the region, with reviews indicating stronger coverage at RV Village but weaker signals at more rural parks. Many campgrounds close for winter, typically operating from April or May through October. Navigation to Shenango Campground requires attention to routing, as GPS directions sometimes lead through challenging turns. Pet-friendly sites exist at all reviewed parks, though specific pet areas vary. Propane refill stations are limited, with none identified at the parks within the data. During summer weekends, advance reservations become essential as parks report higher occupancy rates, particularly for sites with full hookups or lake views.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

      Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

      Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

      Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake

Great spacious park with 2 lakes!

Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is a another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use. They have all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Kenisee Lake has 30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites. The only downside is the internet which is lacking in this area. We have really enjoyed our stay here and will be returning! 👍🏻😬

      Bear Run Campground

      Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

      Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

      Mercer-Grove City KOA

      Really nice!

Very well maintained campground with lots of amenities, esp for kids (pool, playground). Generous sized sites, not too close together. Looks like quite a few long-term RVers here. Cute chickens wandering around. Hiking trail accessible from the campsite. Heavily wooded and quiet, but not too far off interstate.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

Beautiful campground, choose your site wisely

When we arrived, we checked in at the camp office. The ladies there were very kind. The roads through the campground are wide enough for two-way traffic and nicely paved.

This is a beautiful, heavily treed campground. Even on Memorial Day weekend with lots of people, the park was very peaceful. The sounds of birds permeate the air round the clock. Chipmunks run amok. They’re just so cute.

We booked site 56 for our 39’ fifth wheel. As soon as we pulled up, we knew there was no way we’d fit even though the reservation site said it would accommodate a 40’ rig. The camp hosts happened to be passing by as we were surveying the site. They were very helpful redirecting us to a nearby site that would be more suitable. FYI, sites 55 and 56 have deep culverts on either side. One wrong turn and you’re going to have a problem. The majority of sites along our road were just wide enough to keep the tires out of the dirt, but not wide enough for the stairs to land on asphalt. If you have a motorhome or other wide-bodied rig, like an Alliance Paradigm, I would recommend choosing one of the sites on the loop around the playground. Those are better suited for newer big rigs.

TIP…the line at the dump station is long on the holiday weekends. Plan accordingly.

    Guide to Youngstown

Campgrounds near Youngstown, Ohio operate on seasonal schedules, with most facilities closing between late October and early May due to northeastern Ohio's winter conditions. The region sits at approximately 1,060 feet above sea level with rolling terrain and numerous lakes and reservoirs. Cellular reception varies widely throughout these rv parks near Youngstown, particularly in locations surrounded by hills or dense forest cover.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Kool Lakes Family RV Park offers access to multiple fishing spots. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," shared one camper at Kool Lakes Family RV Park.

Hiking trails: Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park features geological formations and varied terrain. "This place is a great place to take your kids and pets. There is a decent amount parking that is available, a large field to participate in numerous activities; flying kites, football, fetch, picnics. There are numerous trails for different skill levels and tons of caves to explore," reports one visitor.

Water activities: Austin Lake RV Park offers inflatable water attractions and paddling options. "Tons of stuff to do here. Very big campground, all kinds of sites. Inflatable slides and such in the lake, hiking trials, playgrounds, all sorts of stuff," notes a reviewer.

    What campers like

Swimming amenities: At Roundup Lake RV Resort, families appreciate the water features. "We arrived mid-September 2020, so Covid has had its impact and it's past Labor Day so pools/lakes are likely closed to swimming most years anyway, but given the size and amenities this campground boasts, I feel it must be a real attractive campground for families during the summer. Campsites surround a sizable lake which boasts inflatables as well as enough room for self-propelled water crafts."

Community atmosphere: Many campers value the welcoming environment at Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground. "When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn't have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections. They keep the area pristine and welcome everyone as if they are family."

Affordability: Campers note reasonable rates at several parks. "We've stayed here twice, and both times have been great. Level gravel sites with really great grassy areas. We stayed memorial weekend and it was quiet by 9 every night. They do a great job keeping the park looking beautiful. Reasonable rates."

    What you should know

Site leveling requirements: Some campgrounds require additional equipment. "This met our needs very well. Despite the fact that it's not our normal kind of camping, in the woods, it was very comfortable. It does not feel crowded, sites were grassy and all utilities worked well."

GPS navigation issues: Several campgrounds report problems with mapping services. "I think the above description written by Katie was a very authentic and eloquent way to describe the ledges quarry park separated from the actual state park. To me the ledges quarry is heaven on earth, anyone is family and all are welcome."

Off-season amenities: Countryside Campground and other facilities have limited services outside summer months. "We stayed here in a 29'TT, 3 kids, 2 dogs. Due to cooler temps pool was closed. The small putt putt course was still open for kids to play. Playground was a hit for our 8yr and under kids."

Noise levels: Some campgrounds maintain strict quiet hours while others permit evening activities. "The tent area was small (this is mostly an RV Park), but it was a good spot to stay! Showers and bathrooms available as well as electric hookups."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Look for sites near play areas to keep kids engaged. At Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park, "Very large campgrounds with a large number of sites! If you're looking to stay off the grid, I stayed in M62, the woods directly behind me, no cell service. From what I've seen, section JJ has the best cell service, sections N, P, and O overlook or are near overlooking the quarry."

Activity planning: Many campgrounds offer scheduled events, especially on weekends. "The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!"

Site selection: Reserve spots away from main roads for safety with children. "Lots of long term stays which makes this feel more like a community. Gated entry with provided code after payment given. We had site 12, which was upfront near the office, showers etc. Great location if your staying more than a few hours."

Swimming areas: Check if the campground has designated children's water sections. "A little out of the way but worth the drive. Has a playground in every section, well equipped cabins, a swimming area with inflatables, kayak, pontoon, and paddle boarding rentals, a bumper boat area, small lake where you can fish and boat."

    Tips from RVers

Power requirements: At Youngstown area rv campgrounds, know your amperage needs. "This by far the nicest family campground that we stayed in. They took us in at last minute on Memorial Day weekend and then we got the greatest spot available for a very reasonable price."

Site spacing: Some parks have tighter arrangements than others. "Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use."

Digital nomad considerations: For those working remotely, check connectivity. "Kenisee Lake RV Campground is a wonderful place to work from remotely if you have an external antenna to cellular internet. The campground is clean with plenty of open space and trails."
