Cozy cabin cured my camping craving!

The adorable cabin fulfilled my tiny home dreams and camping craving! The cozy cabin had a queen bed, twin bunks and a sofa that made out to a full size sleeper. Kitchen included a fridge, sink and single cup coffee maker. Coffee k cups were provided in a few different varieties as well as sugar and creamer packs. Bathroom had tub/shower, clothesline to dry swim suits or hand-washed clothes, toilet, sand sink vanity. Bedding and towels were provided and were crisp, clean white. WiFi was a bonus and although it wasn’t the fastest it was very useful when looking up nearby activities. Our cabin had a grill, an outdoor table with four chairs, a swing and a fire pit which we enjoyed our last night there. Staff was friendly and helpful. There were laundry facilities within the park and lots of activities but we didn’t take advantage of any of that during our brief stay. Overall, we were very pleased and would gladly stay again!

Roughing it by a creek and a pioneer village

Basic car tent camping at several spots along a creek wIth picnic tables and fire rings (no hookups, portolet toilets, no showers.) There is a rustic scout cabin/group lodge reservable for scout, etc. groups. The park features a pioneer village with log cabins, including a blacksmith forge, etc. that have been moved to the site.

    Winton Woods Campground

Love this campground for a weekend rendezvous!

Winton Woods campground has spacious paved RV spaces with full hook-ups, fire ring, and picnic table. They also have cabin and tent camping. The location is located on the lake with access to put in a kayak or canoe. The bathrooms are clean, with private combined shower/dressing stalls. There is a playground for children, and a camp store that sells firewood and supplies. I love the tall pines on the property. They made me feel like I was out west. The campground is also near paved and unpaved trails in the park that surround more of the lake which allows for walking/running/hiking and bicycling, fishing, small craft boating, with small craft boat rentals available at the marina. The park also allows for horseback riding, and a small water park for children in the summer.

    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

    Cowan Lake State Park Campground

    Just plain nice

Although it’s quite a bit off the main road, it was a nice place to stay. Gate was manned when we arrived just before 8:00 pm. Clerk told us to book online once we picked our spot, as she had just closed the register. We just chose an open spot that was level as we could see in the dark. Weary from a day of travel, we put our heads on the pillow and were fast asleep. Shortly after 9 we heard several rounds of gun shots; that was alarming because it was well after sunset. All in all it was a nice spot with electric only. Several gray water dumps were situated throughout the campground. Dumpsters were full from I’m sure what was a busy weekend of fall camping. The lake was beautiful with ability to rent kayaks. Frisbee golf was onsite too. Commissary for ice and basic sundries, with playground nearby. We didn’t visit the bathhouse, so I’m unsure of it’s condition. Tenant sites with no electricity were down by the lake. Cabin rentals were in a separate spot, off the lake. All in all, in was a nice place with lots of things to do. More of a destination park, for sure.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

Beautiful setting, lots of trees and a steam that runs through it.

We stayed in a small cabin with a swing on the porch but there are many lodging choices. A stream ran behind the cabin. It has a pool and lots of kids activities. Gravel roads aren’t great for small kids learning to ride bikes but ok for older kids and adults.

    Kiser Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet Park

This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly since it doesn’t allow any kind of boat with a motor. It also features a beach , 2 playgrounds and several hiking trails. Just be careful if you hike with dogs since some trails intersect with a nature preserve which doesn’t allow pets.

The campground itself has 20 electric sites , 56 primitive sites and 4 camper cabins. All the electric sites are pull through and all sites have a fire pit but only the electric sites come with picnic tables.

Due to off season and COVID the camp store is closed and there is no camper host or park office staff around.

We did notice lots of downed trees on the poorly marked hiking trails. Some trails just started but no maps were around and no trails were blazed. It was hard to tell where we were headed or how long a trail was. I tried using the new Detour app and it wasn’t very accurate for this park.

We did have good Verizon cell coverage.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

    Nice KOA

A nice KOA, with fire pit areas and picnic areas. Each state has a picnic table and the gravel site that we had was level. There is a group yurt for rent a nice little store, and quite a few cabins as well as gazebos and other gathering areas. Wi-fi is horrible even with a booster and sketchy over the air channels.

    Really Well Done

There are cabins, campsites in trees, campsites that aren’t. There’s a nice Mixture of available sites. All the employees are very nice and helpful. They really work hard to maintain the site. The pool is nice. There is a nice play area for kids. They have a short path in the woods which is a nice little loop. Great location with lots to do!

Guide to Miamisburg

Cabins near Miamisburg, Ohio provide access to numerous outdoor recreation opportunities along the Little Miami River and nearby lakes. Within a 30-minute drive, visitors find cabin accommodations ranging from simple one-room structures to fully furnished units with kitchenettes. Seasonal availability varies, with most locations operating from April through October, though several campgrounds offer year-round cabin options.

What to do

Kayaking on the Little Miami River: Morgan's Riverside Campground & Cabins in Morrow allows guests to launch directly from the property. "We stayed in early May, which is usually when they do their Triathlon. The Army Corps of Engineers decided to let water out of the dam up river, so it was flooded for a couple days but the campsites are sooo large and spread out from each other," one visitor reports.

Hiking at Cowan Lake: Guests staying at Cowan Lake State Park Campground have access to multiple trail systems with educational components. "The trails here are easy and short. I loved the informational boxes and tags that they had on the trees or plants. This is helpful if you have little ones with you or if you are like me and just like to learn about the animals/plants on the trail," notes a camper.

Fishing near cabins: Olive Branch Campground features a stocked pond on property. "The fishing Lake is nice and all of the fish bite on hotdogs," one visitor mentioned, making it an easy activity for beginners or families with children.

What campers like

Private bath facilities: Luxury cabin options at Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA offer enhanced comfort. "The bathroom had tub/shower, clothesline to dry swim suits or hand-washed clothes, toilet, and sink vanity. Bedding and towels were provided and were crisp, clean white," explains a visitor who appreciated these amenities.

Scenic cabin locations: Many cabins offer water views or wooded settings. "The cabins here have both a fire ring and grill. This isn't the case at all Ohio State parks so it was a nice surprise. They also have a porch that is screened in with a view of the lake," reports a camper who stayed at Cowan Lake.

Variety of cabin sizes: Dayton KOA Holiday offers multiple cabin configurations to accommodate different group sizes. "We stayed in a small cabin with a swing on the porch but there are many lodging choices. A stream ran behind the cabin. It has a pool and lots of kids activities," notes a visitor who found the setting ideal.

What you should know

Advance reservations required: Cabin accommodations fill quickly, particularly at Thousand Trails Wilmington. "The staff were friendly and the pool is heated! My family and I had a good time at Wilmington. It is close enough to Kings Island that we made a trip over," reports a visitor who secured their reservation early.

Bedding requirements: Most standard cabins require guests to bring their own bedding, pillows, and towels. Premium cabins may include these items. "Please remember to bring your own linens, Morgan's does not supply sheets for the cabins. There are 2 twin mattresses and 1 full size mattress," notes a camper about Morgan's Riverside Campground & Cabins.

Cleaning standards vary: Cabin cleanliness can differ significantly between locations. "The bathrooms are a quick walk and very clean. The showers and park are a small walk but also super nice," reports a visitor to Stonelick State Park Campground, indicating well-maintained facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Winton Woods Campground provides recreation areas specifically for children. "There is a playground for children, and a camp store that sells firewood and supplies. The campground is also near paved and unpaved trails in the park that surround more of the lake which allows for walking/running/hiking and bicycling," states a visitor.

Swimming options: Many cabin locations feature swimming areas. "This KOA sets the bar for the Ohio locations we have visited. The bathrooms are amazing and private. The tent site we had was huge and there were actually trees for our suspended tent and hammocks," explains a Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA visitor who enjoyed the pool.

Safety considerations: Families should select cabins based on proximity to water features. "We were a little nervous as the cabin is so close the river. This is part of the charm but when you have a 3 year old in your group then it is smart to keep an extra sharp eye on the kiddo as the river is a huge draw," advises a family who stayed at Morgan's.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabin stays, consider the surrounding landscape. "Sites are spacious and ours backed up to a wooded area. There is a nice walking trail through the woods, a small pool, playground, and a pond for fishing," reports a visitor to Olive Branch Campground, highlighting the benefits of researching specific site locations.

Proximity to attractions: Cabins near Miamisburg provide good base locations for regional attractions. "There are a number of good sites, but some with a significant slope that leveling would be an issue. There are a few site close to the water but are more compact," notes a Stonelick State Park Campground visitor, suggesting research before booking.

Wi-Fi availability: Digital connectivity varies between cabin locations. "WiFi was a bonus and although it wasn't the fastest it was very useful when looking up nearby activities," reports a Lebanon-Cincinnati NE KOA guest who found this amenity helpful for planning daily excursions.
