Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground offers 115 RV sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups approximately 25 miles from Columbiana. The campground includes both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service ideal for larger motorhomes, with level gravel sites surrounded by grassy areas. RV Village Camping Resort and Austin Lake RV Park provide additional full-hookup options within 30 miles, with Austin Lake accommodating big rigs despite its challenging approach road. Kool Lakes Family RV Park features spacious sites with 50-amp service and operates seasonally from May through mid-October. "Level gravel sites with really great grassy areas. We stayed memorial weekend and it was quiet by 9 every night."

Several RV parks in the region require advance reservations, particularly during summer weekends and fall foliage season. Access roads to certain campgrounds may present challenges - Austin Lake's approach road descends steeply toward the entrance, potentially requiring lower gears for larger rigs. Cell phone reception varies significantly between parks, with Austin Lake notably having no service regardless of carrier. Most campgrounds welcome pets and provide sanitary dump stations. Amenities like showers and laundry facilities are inconsistent across locations, with some parks charging additional fees for certain services. A camper noted: "The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there. Take your time and all will be just fine. Our rig is 39' & 16K. 4wd low helps, not cause you need 4wd just for the lower gears."

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

      Bear Run Campground

      Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

      Atwood Lake Park Campground

      Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

      Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

      Mercer-Grove City KOA

      Really nice!

Very well maintained campground with lots of amenities, esp for kids (pool, playground). Generous sized sites, not too close together. Looks like quite a few long-term RVers here. Cute chickens wandering around. Hiking trail accessible from the campsite. Heavily wooded and quiet, but not too far off interstate.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

Beautiful campground, choose your site wisely

When we arrived, we checked in at the camp office. The ladies there were very kind. The roads through the campground are wide enough for two-way traffic and nicely paved.

This is a beautiful, heavily treed campground. Even on Memorial Day weekend with lots of people, the park was very peaceful. The sounds of birds permeate the air round the clock. Chipmunks run amok. They’re just so cute.

We booked site 56 for our 39’ fifth wheel. As soon as we pulled up, we knew there was no way we’d fit even though the reservation site said it would accommodate a 40’ rig. The camp hosts happened to be passing by as we were surveying the site. They were very helpful redirecting us to a nearby site that would be more suitable. FYI, sites 55 and 56 have deep culverts on either side. One wrong turn and you’re going to have a problem. The majority of sites along our road were just wide enough to keep the tires out of the dirt, but not wide enough for the stairs to land on asphalt. If you have a motorhome or other wide-bodied rig, like an Alliance Paradigm, I would recommend choosing one of the sites on the loop around the playground. Those are better suited for newer big rigs.

TIP…the line at the dump station is long on the holiday weekends. Plan accordingly.

    Guide to Columbiana

Ohio campgrounds near Columbiana offer diverse terrain for camping, with the area sitting at approximately 1,100 feet elevation in the Appalachian foothills region. Weather patterns can fluctuate significantly between early May and late October, with temperature swings of up to 30 degrees between morning and evening hours in spring and fall. Cell service varies widely throughout the region's campgrounds.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Guilford Lake State Park Campground provides access to a calm lake perfect for anglers. "Flat and quiet lake for paddlers. All sites are electric. Potable water on site. Dump station on site. Showers and restrooms open 24 hours," notes one camper. The park also offers kayak and paddleboard rentals at their camp store.

Water recreation: Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins features numerous water activities during summer months. "TONS of stuff to do here. Very big campground, all kinds of sites. Inflatable slides and such in the lake, hiking trials, playgrounds, all sorts of stuff," writes a visitor. The lake includes kayaking, paddle boarding, and inflatable water attractions.

Short hiking trails: Several campgrounds maintain walking paths connecting to local natural areas. At Countryside Campground, "There is a nice path through the woods down to the reservoir, where you can fish and kayak," according to a reviewer. These trails typically range from 0.25-1.5 miles in length and offer moderate difficulty levels.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground earns praise for its well-maintained grounds. "When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn't have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections," reports a satisfied camper.

Quiet atmosphere: Certain campgrounds enforce noise restrictions. A camper at Countryside Campground shares, "This is easily one of the most beautiful and well kept campgrounds we've stayed at. We spent a long weekend in a pull thru site. The bathrooms were clean, the showers were nice and the pool was well kept."

Swimming options: Multiple rv parks near Columbiana feature swimming areas. "Great campground with ample parking space. Rec hall, playground, dog park. Propane is on site," notes a visitor to Countryside Campground. Swimming facilities range from natural lake beaches to maintained pools with varying seasonal availability.

    What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most Columbiana area campgrounds operate from May through October. Kool Lakes Family RV Park runs from May 1 to October 15, while several others extend slightly longer into fall. A visitor to RV Village notes, "This by far the nicest family campground that we stayed in. They took us in at last minute on Memorial Day weekend and then we got the greatest spot available for a very reasonable price."

Challenging access roads: Some campgrounds have difficult approach routes. A visitor cautions about Austin Lake: "Be advised it will seem a little sketchy getting in. The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there." Another mentions, "As mentioned in other reviews, the road in can be a little sketchy, but I think it adds to the adventure and once you are there, wow."

Variable amenities: Roundup Lake RV Resort and similar facilities offer different amenities depending on season and site type. "Net/net, given the proximity to Cleveland and Cuyahoga National Park, and since we have no kids, we would stay here again, outside of the main summer season," notes one visitor. Always check which facilities are operating during your planned visit.

    Tips for camping with families

Choose campgrounds with playgrounds: Many Columbiana area rv parks maintain child-friendly facilities. "The kids were trick or treating to each camp spot," notes a visitor to Countryside Campground, highlighting the family-friendly atmosphere. Most playgrounds are centrally located within campgrounds, making them accessible from multiple camping loops.

Look for scheduled activities: Valley View Campground and other sites often organize weekend events. One camper at Roundup Lake reports, "The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!" These activities typically occur Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

Consider proximity to bathrooms: When tent camping with children, bathroom location matters. "We were camping in a tent and were really happy that the bathrooms were close to the tenting area," notes a visitor to Chestnut Ridge. Most campgrounds position restroom facilities within 150-300 feet of tent camping areas.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Many campgrounds provide gravel sites requiring adjustment. "We stayed in a 29'TT, 3 kids, 2 dogs. Well kept smaller campground. Sites are level side to side, lots are pretty tight in that area," notes a visitor to Countryside Campground. Bringing leveling blocks is recommended at most sites.

Electrical service variations: Different campgrounds offer varying amp service. A camper at Chestnut Ridge reports, "Unfortunately they didn't have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost." Always confirm electrical specifications when making reservations at rv parks near Columbiana, Ohio.

Arrival timing considerations: Several campgrounds have congested access during peak check-in hours. "Advice - get there early or you'll have many vehicles and campers to watch for as you back in!" recommends a Countryside Campground visitor. Friday afternoon arrivals between 3-6pm typically experience the highest congestion.
