Best RV Parks & Resorts near Carrollton, OH

Atwood Lake County Campground near Carrollton provides electric hookups, water connections, and sanitary dump facilities for RV travelers. The campground features concrete pads that accommodate larger rigs, with sites open from May through mid-October. "The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio with FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring," noted one visitor. Petersburg Marina Muskingum Conservancy District offers year-round RV camping with electric, sewer, and water hookups in designated areas. Pride Valley Campground in Malvern, approximately 15 miles from Carrollton, provides electric sites with 50-amp service, though several reviews mention the sites are tightly spaced with limited privacy between neighboring RVs.

Throughout the region, most RV parks require advance reservations during peak summer months and fall foliage season. Dump stations are available at most parks, though some like Pride Valley have received mixed reviews regarding their maintenance. Cell service varies significantly—Atwood Lake area generally maintains adequate coverage for basic needs, while more remote locations may have limited connectivity. Many parks accommodate pets with designated walking areas, though leash requirements are strictly enforced. Winter camping options are limited, with Petersburg Marina being one of the few year-round facilities. RV travelers should note that some parks have steep entrance roads requiring careful navigation, particularly for longer motorhomes or fifth wheels towing additional vehicles.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

    Amish Country Campsites

    Amish campsite

Very small campgrounds literally next to if not part of a corn field extremely cramped back if our camper was 2ft from the camper behind us and 15 ft from the campers left to right. When we left we had to knock on camper doors to ask folks to move their cars so we could pull out of out parking spot. The other campers were very nice lots of local folks they were fun to talk to. The camp site did have clean showers. Hot water. And. Clean restroom facilities. The dump station isn’t the best it is on a hill so dumping ones waste tanks completely could be a challenge The owners were polite but short The sites aren’t the best the electric is only 30 amp. And very dated they did have water hookups at each site. I didn’t take any pictures as there wasn’t anything to see at the campground other than campers packed in like sardines It is close to town and the shops. Everything closed at 5:00 including gas stations As they say any port in a storm. So as a last resort I guess it’s is okay. Just don’t plan to leave after 5:00 pm unless you have a full tank of gas. No ada camp sites. They are pet friendly

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

    Salt Fork State Park Campground

    Great fall camping

Dated, but pretty clean bath\shower building with clothes washer and dryer ($2). Sites in C-loop are far enough apart to not feel too crammed together. Power pedestal has 20, 30 and 50 amp service. 30 amp worked fine. Lots of trails, allowing dogs on leash. True, other amenities are a drive of at least a couple miles to get to. ATT service was fine for streaming using ROKU and my phone as a hotspot. Paved, level pads, but not long enough for largest trailers. Check size if you have one. Sites at South end of loop get the most shade

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Love the Lake!

This state park has a lot to offer with the highlight being a large 2,650-lake that appeals to fishermen, boaters, and swimmers. The park is over 5,000 acres and not only has camping but hiking, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, and more.

The campground is divided into three loops with nearly 200 sites. Campsites include those with full hook-up (50 amp), electric only (50 amp), and some with no electric. This campground is suitable for everything from large RVs to tents. Sites and roads are paved and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In loops where there is no water directly at the site, water spigots are scattered throughout. The restroom/bathhouses in our loop were really nice, modern, clean, and had laundry facilities which is a real plus at a state park campground. Campsites can be reserved online up to six months in advance. Since we were here in April, the campground was practically empty and getting a site was no problem. But, if you want one of the 29 full hook-up sites in the summer, you better book early.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and being able to leave our campsite and be right on the trails. There are approximately 12 miles of hiking trails and an additional 20 miles that are open to horses and snowmobiles. (Be aware that hunting is permitted in certain areas.)

The park is about 15 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is a fantastic place to explore with a lot going on for the whole family! If you are interested in football, the National Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton. The town of Hudson has a pretty, historic downtown with a fun old soda fountain.

We would definitely stay at this campground again. It was a perfect place to stay while visiting family in the nearby town of Hudson. Loved having a paved site with full hook-ups especially since there was a lot of rain while we were there. The lake was perfect for kayaking and had we been able to stay longer we would have spent more time on the water.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

Guide to Carrollton

Camping options near Carrollton, Ohio center around the Atwood Lake region at elevations between 900-1100 feet, with typical summer temperatures reaching the mid-80s. The area's campgrounds remain open primarily from May through mid-October, with fall foliage season bringing significant crowds to the eastern Ohio landscapes. Wooded campsites dominate the terrain, particularly along the lake shores and in nearby Amish Country.

What to do

Fishing access: Easy shore fishing at Countryside Campground with a short walk to Mogadore Reservoir. "A nice short walk takes you to Mogadore reservoir, no luck for us fishing from shore," notes one camper, highlighting the convenient water access for anglers.

Amish Country exploration: Multiple campgrounds position travelers within short drives of Ohio's Amish communities. "The campground is right in the middle of Ohio's Amish country with easy access to shopping and food and other great experiences like the large cuckoo clock in Sugar Creek," shared a visitor to Berlin RV Park & Campground.

Swimming and water recreation: Several campgrounds offer water activities on private lakes. "TONS of stuff to do here. Inflatable slides and such in the lake, hiking trials, playgrounds, all sorts of stuff," explains a visitor about Austin Lake RV Park, mentioning the family-friendly water attractions that distinguish it from basic swimming areas.

What campers like

Clean, private shower facilities: Campgrounds in the Carrollton area often feature individual bathroom setups. "SPOTLESS bathrooms and I mean SPOTLESS," reports a camper at Berlin RV Park & Campground, while another notes, "Each shower has a locking door and a sink. Everything was very clean."

Level, concrete camping pads: Many rv campgrounds near Carrollton, Ohio provide stable, permanent pads. A visitor to Evergreen Park RV Resort shared, "Beautiful, and I mean beautiful park. It rained and rained most of our visit. No mud puddles, not even at water hook up."

Off-season camping opportunities: Winter camping options exist at select locations. "We camped here the second weekend in December and had the park mostly to ourselves. There were only 3 other campers there," notes a winter visitor to Evergreen Park RV Resort, adding that "The game room was nice as well as the indoor pool."

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Many campgrounds have minimal connectivity. "No phone service at all, no matter the carrier," warns a visitor to Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins, an important consideration for travelers needing to stay connected.

Campground access challenges: Several locations have steep approaches. "Make sure you have a good tow vehicle as there is a steep hill at the entrance/exit of the camp ground," advises a visitor to Zion Retreat RV Park, while another camper noted, "Be advised it will seem a little sketchy getting in. The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there."

Extra costs for amenities: Budget-conscious campers should check for additional fees. "Austin lake offers plenty of fun with the lake. Kayaking, inflatables, beach, but almost anything you want to do will cost you an additional charge. Need to use the bathhouse? Better take quarters...bc the showers are coin operated," warns one visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: Multiple playgrounds provide entertainment options for children at several campgrounds. "There are several ponds around the campground for fishing and bird watching," notes a visitor to Zion Retreat RV Park, adding "The views are amazing! If you love peace and quiet this is the place for you."

Family-oriented campground selection: Some locations better suit families than others. A visitor to Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground shared, "Our family really enjoyed staying here, and our kids especially loved swimming and fishing in the lake," highlighting the family-friendly amenities.

Event planning: Many rv campgrounds in the Carrollton area host seasonal activities. "Staff had crafts and pumpkin decorating for kids also and were helpful and friendly," noted a fall visitor to Countryside Campground, demonstrating how campground staff organize activities for children during seasonal weekends.

Tips from RVers

Hookup configurations: RVers should prepare for varying utility layouts. "The one and only issue is that water and electricity is located in the rear area of RV, while sewer connections are toward the front. I personally used 50' of water line and 30' of sewer line," advises an RVer at Scenic Hills RV Park.

Site privacy considerations: Many campgrounds feature close site spacing. "The sites are a bit close, think KOA close. This might be a turnoff if the campground was full," warns a visitor to Zion Retreat RV Park about typical spacing at rv parks near Carrollton, Ohio.

Seasonal availability: Most campgrounds operate on limited schedules. "Office staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about local attractions and dining," reports a visitor to Scenic Hills RV Park, where sites are described as "gravel site but level side to side," making leveling less challenging for larger rigs.
