    Shade!

This place is awesome. The super nice lady gave me a tent site for my 19ft van in complete shade with a private grass area and picnic table. It was perfect. Everything is clean, laundry, quiet.

Juniper Campground — Theodore Roosevelt National Park

    Well kept

Beautiful, well maintained campground. Lots of different site to include pull thru, back in, walk in tent sites and a group site. New bathroom on site. Walking distance to the cannonball creations. There is also a dump station here unlike Cottonwood Camp in the South unit.

    Little Missouri State Park Campground

    Cool spot

It's more RV and equestrian focused but you can tent camp as well. Large grassy areas to set up camp. Fire pits, showers, bathrooms. Seems popular as well. Making reservations would be a good idea. I stayed at spot 31. It's at the end of the road that goes downhill. There are lots of flies because it has horse corrals and the mosquitos are vicious. They may be different at other spots. Nice spot for views and hiking. I would come back here.

    North Park Campground

Very nice, clean, friendly, and convenient t!

On a motorcycle camping vacation I reserved a tent site at North Park campground. The person I spoke with was fun and knowledgeable! I rode in after hours to find my reservation paperwork duly taped to the office door. The campsite was pleasantly private with fencing and plenty of space. The bathroom and laundry facilities were spotless with all the expected amenities. Campground staff visited to ensure all was well and to give me useful pointers about the local area. Totally quiet during the night! The campground is isolated from the city yet plenty close enough to shopping and fuel. There is no campground store (who cares?). I’ll stay here again for sure!

    Little Missouri State Park Campground

    Off the beaten path

We stayed at this park because the Theodore Roosevelt Nat'l Park North Unit campgrounds were closed for renovations. I mistakenly thought this park was close to the park, but it is actually a 90 minute drive. We had a reservation for 2 nights but only stayed one and moved to the CCC Campground to be closer to the park. The only real sites with a view are those that back-up to the Little Missouri River. All others are just looking at a prairie. This is also primarily a campground for horse people, which we are not. You do need to pay the additional North Dakota State Park fee if camping here.

Juniper Campground — Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Now I know why Teddy Roosevelt loved North Dakota! Check out Juniper to camp!

I have already posted my review for the Theodore Roosevelt South campground - Cottonwood. I won't repeat myself too much. Believe it or not, but I would put the North unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park even ahead of Yosemite.

The trees and the canopy in the Juniper campground is really cool. Especially against the terrain that surrounds it. The campground is low on amenities but high on scenery, and it is very clean.

The hiking in the North unit is amazing. There is so much wildlife. Never have I been so close to so many animals in the wild. I saw a lot of wildlife in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, but not as much as I did here.

I never thought I would ever want to visit North Dakota. Honestly, I cant wait to go back. This place will blow your expectations, especially if you take an adventure on a hike or two. In the North unit, I highly suggest stopping at the River Bend Overlook and hiking down to the CCC shelter for some amazing views. Then drive to the end of the road and take a quick hike to Sperati Point.

Juniper Campground — Theodore Roosevelt National Park

    Buffalo!

This campground sits on the riverbank of the Little Missouri River. There is a resident bison herd that is very comfortable in the area. We woke up one morning to see one grazing 20 feet from our tent. No showers but makes up for it by having space available for a drop in on the 4 th of July weekend! Warning: mature cottonwood trees can drop a branch without warning. The unit next to us had a large limb come down on a windless night. Luckily it was a pull through and dropped on the opposite side of the tree from the tent trailer. Try for a unit with small cottonwood trees!

This site has a water pump, fire rings, and tables. In the day time the temperature gets really hot and the restroom has a smell come out. This site was very big and could hols a couple tents. It costed 20 dollars to make reservations but was total worth it. There is a lot of buffalo out hear ad there is a lot of dung

    Watford City Tourist Park

    Passed on this one

This park was clean and would work well if attending the adjacent fair. Right on a main road. We passed on staying as it had little character or appeal for a 2 night stay and at $35 a night electric only, a $5 dollar dump fee and no potable water was not worth the cost. Separate RV and tenting area.

    Riverside Park - Beulah

    Overnight

There are 8 electric RV sites according to the map but it looks like there's a few more here. The sites are grass. We found sites pretty level on the way but on the south side they are steep, better for tents. There are bathrooms and a shower but they were in terrible shape, I wouldn't use them. Otherwise it's nice and quiet. Disc golf, playground and a ball field are here.

    Elkhorn Campground

    Isolated and secluded campsite

Traveled about 35 miles on unpaved road in RAV4 AWD. Campsite was empty, so we had different sites to choose from. We were in a spot with some shade for our tent. Close to clean pit toilet. Hand pump was hard to pump which produced light brown water which wasn't something we wanted to drink, so bring in your own water. Site had large picnic table and fire ring. Nice view of landscape and Trailhead nearby. Nearby is Elkhorn Ranch Unit trail leading to Theodore Roosevelt Ranch site. No buildings but interpretive signage.

Juniper Campground — Theodore Roosevelt National Park

    Teddy Roosevelt National Park camping

Really beautiful site here with lots of easy and moderate trails to explore with lovely sunrise/sunset and wildlife! Similar feel to Badlands with some fewer crowds. You can’t choose a bad place to camp but be sure to drive through both the north and south areas. Pretty simple campground. Plan to stay at least two nights.

Yay: some of the sites are first come/first serve so if you don’t have a reservation you might get a spot (yay spontaneous adventures). Lots of different campsite configurations so you don’t have to be next to an RV in your tent.

Nay: pretty much guaranteed to fill up on summer/holiday weekends, trails were muddy when we were there in July.

Surprise: BISON EVERYWHERE!! If you have kids don’t let them wander around, the bison are close and plentiful!!

    Absolutely incredible!

This place is a steal for the price they charge! I watched the sun rise over the ND badlands! The Campground was immaculate, the ranger on duty was super helpful, and I had the whole grounds to myself (it was on a Tuesday). 100% reccommend!!

    LOTS of hiking!

We were surrounded by miles of hiking in which we enjoyed about 13 miles of, but so much more we could’ve hiked! The views were gorgeous, but there are oil drillers within view from our site and the hikes. At night the sky was lit from ND oil drilling gas release. The campground and trails are VERY accommodating to horse back riding, with many corrals and hay available. Toilets were a little bit dirty, however the showers (available through inserted quarters) were very clean and it was nice to use a full pressure and sized shower after a long day in the heat.

    Nice little park

We really enjoyed this site. The views were great. Park will be even better in the future with all the new trees they have growing. Bathrooms and pay showers were in great shape. Kids loved the horses that people brought to ride.

A slightly off the beaten path hidden gem.

This is a beautiful little park that features trail riding. Great hiking through the Badlands and views that can't be beat. Although this park is in the middle of the oil fields it does not interfere with the horseback riding, hiking, or other experiences. A little over an hour away is Medora and the Medora musical. There is also another amazing park near Medora where we saw wild horses, bison, deer, prairie dogs, and countless birds. All in all, Little Missouri State Park was a great experience for us.

    Little Missouri State Park

This park is outstanding. There are many amenities including electrical hookups, water, horse corrals vault toilets and pay showers. But the amenities aren't why you stay at this park. You stay for the views. The horse and hiking trails are unbelievable. The campgrounds themselves are quiet. You'll experience starry skies and the howls of coyotes. The roads aren't paved and there aren't many trees in the campgrounds themselves.

    McKenzie Bay Rec Area

    RV campsite no tents

This area is beautiful and a nice place if you have an RV or a boat to launch. I didn't stay here but I gave it three stars because the app says I have to give it a rating. It has some sort of clubhouse/store, showers, and bathrooms. Popular campsite as most spots were full when I pulled in. I would come back here.

    What a GEM!

This is a beautiful spot to land for a night or more. Quiet, we're the only people here and the host said that's usually the case. $15 a night with 110 extension cord power - can't beat that! The water here tastes good, there are several frost free hydrants for use. Beautiful playground if you have kids. And the store the host owns has basic necessities. The park is beautifully kept. We explored the area - close to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park North Unit and National Grasslands. Lots of trees for shade. The little store is open and has and diesel are actually priced competitively.

    Great Fishing

We camped here once, everything was booked online. Once arrived we used the map from the website to navigate the campground and find our spot. Never did see a camp host to check in with, nor did one check in with us the 3 days we were there. Camping was pretty basic, there are RV spots with electric hook ups but not a ton of trees shade your campsite....that is unless you have been there and know which campsites do have some trees and shade! Once we spent some time here we discovered that most are camping here to fish, there is a really good landing and a bait shop on the campground so it is very accommodating for that, and the fishing is excellent on sakakawea. If you are looking for a campground that has extras like playgrounds and other activities for kids this may not be your spot. But if you just need a spot to hook up your camper and you plan on fishing most of the time this campground is excellent!
