    Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages

    Great Place to Stay

My thoughts and experience of Fayetteville RV Resort. This was our 2nd time staying here, this time we stayed for a long weekend, Thursday - Sunday during the month of April 2021. It is located a short distance from Interstate 95, making it a great place to spend the night if you are traveling on to another destination. Or stay for a nice relaxing vacation like us.

Our site #27 located across from the office, pool, mini golf and bathhouse is a back-in site, gravel pad, nice, level, average length and width, fire pit and picnic table. Full hook up’s, water, sewer and electric. Also cable tv and internet with average campground WiFi speed.

Things we liked about this campground:

    • All sites seem to be gravel pads, nice, level, average length and width. Full hook up’s. I would guess half of the sites are pull though. They have sites that can handle long rigs. Also depending on your site nice shade trees.

    • The staff and the couple managing the place are very friendly and it shows that they care about the guest. The campground is clean and well maintained. Seen staff making rounds all day.

    • So much to do for the kiddos and adults. Two pools, hot tub, mini golf, basketball court, horseshoes and playground all included in your price.

    • For the adults they have a nice workout center with lots of equipment.

    • During our stay they had scheduled kid activities and movie night with popcorn.

    • On Friday evening they had a food truck scheduled for dinner.

    • We really liked the “Meet Your Neighbors Happy Hour”, they really wowed us with this event. It ends early enough that you can still have a quiet evening around your camp site. Check their activities list for schedule.

    • Saturday morning they had a Waffle breakfast.

    • Two large fenced dog parks, one located at each in of the campground.

    • Two fishing ponds and dirt walking trail though the woods and around ponds.

    • Two newly remodeled bathhouses and laundry rooms. Staff keeps them clean though out the day, we never had an issue with dirty or un-stocked bathrooms.

Verizon cell phone service was great.

Local Eating Places: Nothing special, Waffle House, Subway, Foxes Pizza and a corner grill all within 10 minutes away.

Attractions or things to do in the area: Averasboro Civil War Battlefield and Museum is only 9.6 miles. There is around 10 historical sites along the route that is connected to the history museum. In Fayetteville about 15-20 minutes there is a lot to do and see.

Four Oaks Lodging & RV Resort

    Non-Descript Roadside RV Parking Lot

If you find yourself passing up or down the I-95 corridor and simply need a patch of land to layover for the night and you’ve got one of those incredibly large mobile homes on wheels, then this non-descript RV location near Four Oaks (look for the cross-roads of where Hwy 301 intersects Hwy 701(exit 90 on I-95) may just be the perfect spot for you. But to be perfectly clear, Four Oaks is more of a layover than a destination - I would really only consider this on the way to somewhere else where I am getting in late and leaving early.

With a couple dozen or so RV parking lanes for your parking pleasure, all of the sites come equipped with the typical 20 / 30 / 50 amp electrical hook-ups, waste disposal and water connections. There’s the standard picnic table, fire ring / BBQ, garbage receptacles, propane refilling stations, covered pavilions and even a community BBQ. The hosts are somewhat grumpy and offer pricing by the night, week and month. Overall, the community is inviting and friendly and there were a few that invited us over to chat with them and share a beer. While there’s not a ton of amenities to pick and choose from, this location does come with BBQ, doggie park, free WiFi & high-speed internet, store and vending machines. Near this RV parking lot, you do have access to Wilmington, Emerald Isle and lovely (but crowded) Myrtle Beach. One of the best perks though is that this campground serves up a nice continental breakfast on the weekends for campground guests, plus there's also free ice and cable for any overnight guests.

Insider’s tip? Here's a few: (1) Take advantage of the close proximity to 30 acre Tucker Lake (conveniently located where Interstate 40 intersects 95), where some decent fishing can be had – we caught (and released) several smallmouth bass, brook trout and black bullheads. Here, you’ll find white sandy beaches, paddle boats, kayaks and canoes for rent, rope swings, 165 foot waterslide for the kids to jump into the water and scattered open pavilions with BBQ’s and grills. There’s also a handful of ill-maintained trails to hike on; (2) If you'd like to hit the links then nearby Johnston County Country Club has some really nice fairways that you'll want to explore; (3) Should you grow weary of trying to conjure up that next meal from the depths of your onboard mini-fridge and want to try out some local fare, then head on over to nearby JP's Country BBQ where they serve up smoked chicken, ribs as well as mac-n-cheese along with some good 'ol Southern cole slaw; (4) Should you find yourself in need of anything there's Ronnie's Country Store just down the road (you wouldn't even need to drive there from Four Oaks), where you can get basic groceries, ice and just about anything for your journey; (5) My favorite site on the property is #8 or #10 as they are furthest from the nearby highway and offer decent shade; and (6) If you come bearing kayak or canoe and are looking for a nice wet piece of paradise to launch into, then check out Holts Lake located just due north of this campground where there's also some pretty decent fishing to be had.

    Happy Camping!

    Spacious Skies Sandy Run

    Phenomenal Stay — very peaceful!

Phenomenal stay at Lazy Acres. Very peaceful, despite being within a mile from Fayetteville Regional Airport.

Great service. Allowed my 38 Trailer to maneuver against traffic and park in the newer section that is Big Rig friendly. Full Hooks Ups, Pool, Peaceful Nature trail (about .5 mile), Laundry and Bath house. Concrete pad for outside area, bricked fire ring, and pretty level sites.

We had our 3 kiddos there and they had a blast at the pool, but the setting is perfect for adults who just want to enjoy a quiet evening.

    We will stay there again.

Crosswinds Campground — Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

    Awesome State Park

This was our very first full-time RV park. We loved being in the park and it easily accommodated our 39ft. Class A. Back-in site but with plenty of room to do so. Each site has water and electric hook-up. Sewer however is a dump station. The sites are big with a picnic table, fire pit and lantern hook. Plenty to do here with the lake at your fingertips. Great first experience.

Laurel Lakes Campground and Music Park

    Needs updating

On a positive note, they were able to get us in and we checked in 7 o’clock in the evening. They were easy-going for coming and going. the owner was very kind.

the cost is $40 a night for full hook up. We have a big rig and when we got there, a long term resident helped back us in. It seems that most of the people there are long-term residence. Unfortunately, the lakes were dried up, so no fishing was available. The bathrooms reeked of smoke and were filthy. The laundry room was available and we did three loads of small amount of laundry. It took two runs through the dryer each. The main building was not open while we were there. I think they are working on things, but as of right now if you need a place to park, they likely have availability.

    RVacation Campground

    Great for long term!

We stayed for several months while waiting for a house to be built...in freeeezing cold weather!  We were impressed that the water lines are heated, so we didn't have to disconnect our water for the unusually cold 2 degree weather. (I believe the campground used to be an KOA)  Really nice little laundry room and dog park.  Everyone was very friendly..we had a nice large pull through site that allowed enough room for our truck and a car.  Even though was right on 95, didn't really notice the traffic noise.  We weren't there in warm enough weather for the pool, but it looked nice!  They did a great job of snow removal as well.  Very clean campground!

    Herring RV and Mobile Village

    Nice owners

More of a long term place, kind of a middle of nowhere location, but it was at our stopping point. 50 amp service, we needed a reducer to 30 amp, the owners took care of us though and we had a good stay.

    Spacious Skies Sandy Run

    Not as described via website.

We were so excited to find a campground for the weekend, close to our son’s wrestling tournament location. Unfortunately the pictures definitely depict a campground way nicer with more amenities than we seen or were available for use to us. Although we picked a pull through site with a concrete patio, picnic table and nice blocked fire pit (on the website), it had no fire pit at all, not even a fire ring. When brought to the attention of the front office we were told “we don’t run the website” & “if you would have let us know we would have found you a fire ring”. We assumed since check in was 3pm the campsites were checked to make sure they were left clean and had everything mentioned. There was tons of other spots open with the blocked fire pit and other with fire rings only. When you pick and pay for a nicer site that’s what you expect to get. We checked in within the last hour they were open due to the tournament and the next morning we left again for the tournament so we really had no time to bring it to their attention until the day we checked out. There was no dog park that we seen, whatsoever and our “nice view by the wood line” was literally a few scattered trees with a view of “keep out” signs and equipment for upkeep behind it. I will mention this is January so everything is dead but I can’t imagine even in summer with the small amount of trees, fully bloomed, it would hide the equipment back there and make for a nice view. I seen no signs for a walking trail nor a catch and release pond. Maybe there was such but I didn’t notice anything on our walk to or from the jump pillow/camp store. The camp store hardly had any supplies.. again this could have been due to the time of year. This campground is riddled with obvious long timers/year round campers, which is cool but at least put them in separate areas from your short timers. Although they have a small book worth of rules/terms to abide by while there,, the quiet hours are not abided by at least not in the area we were in,, it was football games, drinking and pot smoking until well after quiet hours. We’ll search elsewhere next month/time.

Guide to Spring Lake

RV camping near Spring Lake, North Carolina offers travelers several options beyond traditional hook-up sites. The area sits in the Sandhills region at approximately 200 feet elevation with sandy soil providing good drainage during coastal storms. Water recreation options expand significantly during summer months when temperatures average 85-90°F, and most campgrounds remain accessible year-round with mild winters rarely dropping below freezing.

What to do

Hiking trails access: Smith Lake Army RV Park offers nature trails through preserved wetlands. "The hiking trails are great and easy to get to. Reminds me of Sgt time training Thursday's, lol. Great swampy and peidmont preservation area," notes one visitor.

Fishing spots: Several lakes near Spring Lake provide fishing opportunities with proper licensing. "You can fish inside the rec area, just not from the Campground," mentions a Smith Lake camper about their December stay.

Water recreation: During warmer months, lakefront facilities expand their offerings. "Staff was very receptive and the facilities were new right on the Smith Lake Beach. Beautiful. You can rent kayaks and paddle boats right on the water front, but the beach is only open on Weekends until Labor Day," according to one military family.

Farm animal experiences: Double L Farms Campground in Lumberton offers a unique experience with livestock. "Not everyone's idea of a great camping experience involves being completely surrounded by farm animals on an actual working ranch. For my entire family, we absolutely loved the cows, horses, donkeys, chickens, guinea hens, ducks, turkey, cats, dogs and other animals we came across during our stay."

What campers like

Clean shower facilities: Campers consistently note the quality of bathhouses at area campgrounds. At Double L Farms, "The campground restroom was really nice, has air conditioning, heating, and a clean private shower. There is also a washer, a microwave and even wifi in there."

Convenient camping locations: Raleigh Oaks RV Resort & Cottages provides strategic access to major routes. "Great stop on 95 corridor. Can't hear any noise at all. Fuel on way in or out. Bathrooms immaculately kept. Even the trash disposal is out of site and super clean."

Family-friendly activities: Multiple campgrounds offer recreational options for children. "This is our first RV spot. We wanted the amenities for our four year old. Playground, mini golf, horseshoe, 3 dog parks, 2 pools, lots of bathrooms, 2 launderettes," shares a Raleigh Oaks visitor.

Military connections: For service members, Smith Lake Army RV Park provides a familiar environment. "Clean and level site (6). Fire pit, picnic table and cement pad with full hookup. Many AD soldiers and their families fulltime. They have been great. Next to Simmons Army Air Field so, expect whirlybirds at all hours buzzing the CG. All the sounds of freedom are to be expected and enjoyed."

What you should know

Site access constraints: Some campgrounds have limitations for larger vehicles. At Pine Lake RV Resort, "The only down side is it can be hard to get larger trailers in and out of the park and into and out of some of the sits."

Noise considerations: Military installations create unique soundscapes. "This campground is near a military runway so be prepared for loud aircraft noise as well as other military installation noise," reports a Smith Lake Army RV Park reviewer.

Weather preparedness: Spring Lake area campsites generally offer good drainage, but summer insects require planning. At Double L Farms, visitors note "Bugs so don't forget bug spray. Rooster alarm. Great place! Will definitely stay again."

Site availability: Military training schedules can affect campground access. "Availability required us to move during our stay but that wasn't a big deal. We loved the sounds of freedom and enjoyed seeing our service members practicing flight maneuvers," shares one Smith Lake visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Animal interactions: Farms near camping areas provide educational opportunities. At Double L Farms Campground, "If you have a family with small children, they will love the horses, chickens, guinea hens, and the couple of friendly cats and dogs that they own."

Playground options: Several campgrounds feature facilities specifically for children. "Playgrounds were phenomenal for kids. Bike and Hiking trails all through out the site. Fishing as well - with respective fishing license," notes one Smith Lake visitor.

Beach activities: Seasonal beach access provides water recreation options. "Camp Ground is quiet and well laid out. Facilitaies are clean and maintained. Lake was open and fun to play in," reports a summer visitor to Smith Lake.

Morning routines: Farm settings create natural wake-up calls. "The best amenity though? The free rooster alarm clock you'll hear around 5:30am every morning!" warns a Double L Farms reviewer.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Spring Valley RV Campground in Hope Mills offers specific site recommendations. "I would select a spot that is halfway through the loop (it's lower and further removed meaning you'll hear less traffic from nearby HWY 95)."

Local dining discoveries: RVers recommend exploring nearby food options. Near Spring Valley, visitors suggest "We had a great fried chicken, fried pork chops, fried whiting fish, fried shrimp dinner at Grandsons Buffet (they have more sides on their menu that most menus have food!), which was great before heading over to Dirtbag Ales to wash it all down!"

Extended stay arrangements: Some campgrounds accommodate longer-term needs. At Double L Farms, "Large, level, FHU sites. Some permanent trailers and seasonal campers, mostly occupied by traveling healthcare professionals. Well maintained. Campground is surrounded by the owners farmland."

Parking pad variations: Site surfaces differ between campgrounds. At Pine Lake RV Resort, "The road to is dirt with sand mix, they good a good job of keeping it graded. The ownership and management are very nice people and are super responsive to everything."
