Best RV Parks & Resorts near Kannapolis, NC

Several RV campgrounds surround Kannapolis, providing full-hookup sites with varying amenities. Glenwood Acres RV Park in Concord features year-round availability with 50-amp electric, sewer and water hookups. Cobble Hill RV Campground in Salisbury offers 84 sites with full hookups including 30/50-amp service, plus amenities like showers, toilets and a dump station. Lake Myers RV Resort in Mocksville operates seasonally from April through November with electric, water and sewer connections, though the campground layout can present challenges for larger vehicles. "Big Rigs Beware. This is a decent family-friendly campground but is quite difficult to navigate the roads and sites if you have a larger rig," noted one reviewer.

Seasonal considerations affect reservation availability throughout the region. Winter camping options remain limited, with only select parks like Glenwood Acres and Statesville RV Park I-77 operating year-round. Many campgrounds near Kannapolis feature gravel parking pads rather than concrete, which may require leveling equipment. Full hookup sites typically include 50-amp service, making them suitable for larger motorhomes with multiple air conditioning units. Most parks accommodate pets, though some enforce breed restrictions or designated pet areas. Proximity to Charlotte provides convenient access to urban amenities while still enjoying RV accommodations, with Elmore RV Park positioned closer to city attractions though offering fewer on-site amenities than more rural options.

    Midway Campground Resort

    Family-Friendly

This is a small, family-friendly campground. There is a pond for fishing, a nice pool, a jump pad, playground, arcade, and mini-golf. Plenty for kids to do. The best feature is a haunted trail at Halloween (this gets very busy so be aware if you plan to camp around this time of year). Sites are not necessarily level and big rigs might have a hard time navigating the campground, but folks are friendly and it's a nice place to spend a few days. They do offer long-term sites if you need to stay in the area for a while.

Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

    Overall a Good Experience

Took the new pop-up to Kings Mountain State Park this past weekend and had a great time. The sites are pretty close together, but we still had adequate room to spread out. Each site has water, 30 amp electric, a picnic table, and a fire pit ring. Our site was a pull-through, but the majority of them are back-in. Throughout the campground, AT&T had great cell coverage, but Verizon was non-existent. Our site was a stone's throw from the bath/shower house, which was clean and recently updated. When not in the side, a short walk takes you to the Trading Post, a small store selling firewood ($7), ice, souvenirs, and sundries. Next to that is a large playground connected to a pavilion. A short 2 minute drive (or longer hike if you are feeling ambitious) takes you to the Kings Mountain Military Museum where you can learn of all things historical to Kings Mountain. There's a small model village and numerous other attractions to view while at the park as well. Overall this was a great experience. It's close to home for us, and the price was fantastic ($30 nightly). Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort

    convenient to Carowinds, decent campground

Older campground lots of shade.  staff very friendly and helpful. We were really surprised with how much has been invested in Carowinds over the years by Cedar Fair that the campground has been untouched.  Bathrooms/bathhouses were very clean and seem to be the one part of the campground that has been updated.  One section of the campground has been turned into long term camping and many looked like they had been there for years.  campground was quiet other than noise from air traffic as airport is nearby but it was minor.   Campsites have decent space in between each other which is great bc the sites are small in length and you will be parking either beside the rig or sideways in front of it. We stayed in a back-in site and most back-in sites seemed rather level but pull throughs were hit or miss on that aspect.  If you are staying here to go to the park then it is very convenient and has an excellent shuttle that runs frequently and drops you off near the front gate.  Very small camp store that has most of the basics. Campground overall is clean, safe and secure but we expected a little more from theme park campground.  We live nearby and are pass holders at Carowinds so we will likely stay frequently due to the convenience.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Beautiful park, great facilities

Full hookups were all filled but site 29 was a primitive, deep, level 57 foot site right near water siphon and a beautiful modern bathhouse picnic table and fire grate/ring. Fair amount of space between sites, firewood sold by camphost or ranger. Made yummy hot dogs over fire, wonderful night, hot showers, clean facilities. You will be thrilled with this park, lake is beautiful, many hiking trails, biking, etc. Verizon cell service was excellent at our site and appeared good throughout park.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

    Nice quiet state park

This is a very nice state park. The sites are well spaced and wooded. (If you think they are too close together you haven’t been to many private campgrounds). Our site was level and spacious, although some were not as level. Our first site had an awkward incline. The guy at the trading post said they were working on them. We were there mid-week and the campground was very quiet. The only noise was from crows and other birds, and acorns falling in the woods. There is electric (some 50 amp) and water but no sewer. There are 2 dump stations. Several bathrooms/showers are available. There is a nice playground, hiking trails, a lake, canoe rental, and a trading post with some food, ice, camping supplies, firewood and souvenirs. There is also a separate Equestrian campground! The stare park is adjacent to Kings Mountain National Battlefield Park, with Revolutionary War history and more hiking.

    Crown Cove RV Park

    Keep Driving!

Subpar; seems to cater to long term residents. For the 3 pages of rules and regulations I was expecting a pristine campground; what we found was a half paved parking lot and our lot was on a hill side which made using our full hookups going up hill. No fire pit! Must provide ur own, rules state belongings must be 3ft away from away from neighboring sites which is almost impossible with how close sites are. Pass it up! Keep Driving! Would have given less than one star if possible

    Zooland Family Campground

Great spot, well placed with Zoo.

Great stay. Minutes from the zoo. We did a three day weekend here, with a day at the zoo, and the rest of the time playing at the campground.

    3 kids all loved it.

Sites were gravel, not all level, but not too bad. Full hook-ups, picnic table and fire pit. Extremely friendly staff.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Myers RV Resort features a well-stocked lake where campers can catch various fish species. "Many activities offered for family with 2 large pools etc," notes one camper at Lake Myers RV Resort.

Mini golf and games: Carolina Rose Campground (formerly Cobble Hill) provides family recreation options including mini golf. "Such a great little campground, nice wooded sites, lake, playground, pool and bonefires and djs on holidays. trails and fresh eggs in camp store from chickens on site," shares a visitor.

Hiking and nature trails: Ivory Clay Farm offers secluded spots with nature viewing. "This is a great relaxing get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! As the owners, we love relaxing & enjoying the bonfires, sunsets, wildlife & star gazing," states an Ivory Clay Farm review.

What campers like

Accessibility to cities: RV campgrounds near Kannapolis, North Carolina provide convenient access to urban areas. "Not really the campgrounds fault I don't think, but there were SO MANY FLIES. I spent the weeks killing the ones that snuck in. So annoying," notes one camper about Lake Myers, despite appreciating that "Mocksville. There are a lot of cute restaurants near by."

Pool facilities: Multiple swimming options appeal to summer campers at Thousand Trails Forest Lake. "This campground has so many sites and they are well laid out and spacious. They have 30 amp and 50 amp sites to suit your needs. There is a nice restaurant to eat at, a small convenience store, arcade games, 3 pools and a ton of activities."

Farm animals: Carolina Rose Campground offers unique farm animal interactions. "Goats and a horse also live here," mentions a reviewer, while another appreciates getting "fresh eggs from the check-in store each morning... And I mean... Fresh Eggs."

What you should know

Site conditions: Many RV campgrounds near Kannapolis feature uneven terrain requiring leveling equipment. "Site was not even close to level. Recent blacktop not properly compressed. Had to use Anderson leveling buckets only on front of motorhome to level," reports a visitor to Statesville RV Park I-77.

Highway noise: Campgrounds with interstate access often experience traffic noise. "My only issue was the highway was close and the noise did make it hard to sleep," notes another Statesville RV Park visitor.

Reservation policies: Some campgrounds have strict policies about check-in times. "There is no late check in, and we were not warned of that at all, so when we got in at 10pm no key was left for us to get into our cabin. We had to spend the night in my dad's RV on one of the foldouts."

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Seek campgrounds with structured events for different age groups. "The campground hosts, Tom and Jan were absolutely amazing! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. We were only there Fri-Sun but there were activities planned to include an outdoor movie (with free popcorn), arts & crafts for the kids, candy bar bingo, and a DJ," shares a visitor to Thousand Trails Forest Lake.

Age-appropriate facilities: Consider the age of your children when selecting a campground. "We took our three boys (all under 5) for the weekend. There was not much at all for them to do other than play in the pool, which was a tad bit dirty. BUT there were storms that weekend so I don't think that was their fault. There is a play ground and game room for older kids but nothing for the smaller children to do," notes a Lake Myers RV Resort visitor.

Space considerations: Look for campgrounds with adequate site spacing. "The camping sites are close together, but, that seems standard in these types of campgrounds," mentions a Forest Lake reviewer.

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Some campgrounds present difficulties for larger vehicles. "We stayed here with family and reserved a cabin. Our two family members reserved two RV sites... I do not really recommend the RV sites, I didn't like the way they had the waste lines set up, and I kept smelling raw sewage," reports a Carolina Rose Campground visitor.

Connectivity options: RVers requiring internet should note varying connectivity at different sites. "Starlink was great for connectivity in most sites. Some sites are shaded around the edges and would be tough for starlink," explains a Statesville visitor.

Seasonal operation: Several RV parks in the Kannapolis area operate seasonally with reduced services in winter. "This KOA is RIGHT off of the interstate. If you are in midtravel and need a place to overnight this is a nice KOA for that," suggests a visitor seeking year-round options.
