    Spacious Skies Sandy Run

    Great Campground for a Stopover

While this is a Spacious Skies Campground with all of the SS stuff (playground, bounce pad, pool, dog run, etc) it doesn't quite have the SS vibe.  Felt a little more like a long term campground.  There are 55 sites. While we were there, I counted 38 campers that I'm almost sure were long term and 5 that seemed short term like us.  The only thing that put me off about this though was a couple of sites seem to keep their dogs mostly outside in dog fences.

The campground is appropriately named (Sandy Run) because is it mostly sand.  There is at least a half mile sand road to get back to the campground.  All of the roads in it are sand, though you can tell the base is gravel.  The campsites themselves are mostly sand, with thick gravel to park on, nice concrete pads with picnic tables to sit at and a fire ring at each site.  There was a very nice short hiking trail that went around a small lake.

All of the staff was super friendly and helpful.  The campground and sites are clean and well maintained.  The bath and laundry house are also clean.

We had the only non-FHU site, so I had to use the dump station, which was easy access and well maintained.

The campground is close to I95 with easy access, but far enough away that you can't hear the highway noise.  It is right next to the Fayetteville airport, but being a regional, it is not very busy.

Bottom line, I would definitely stay here again, but we have family in the area.

    Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages

    Great Place to Stay

My thoughts and experience of Fayetteville RV Resort. This was our 2nd time staying here, this time we stayed for a long weekend, Thursday - Sunday during the month of April 2021. It is located a short distance from Interstate 95, making it a great place to spend the night if you are traveling on to another destination. Or stay for a nice relaxing vacation like us.

Our site #27 located across from the office, pool, mini golf and bathhouse is a back-in site, gravel pad, nice, level, average length and width, fire pit and picnic table. Full hook up’s, water, sewer and electric. Also cable tv and internet with average campground WiFi speed.

Things we liked about this campground:

    • All sites seem to be gravel pads, nice, level, average length and width. Full hook up’s. I would guess half of the sites are pull though. They have sites that can handle long rigs. Also depending on your site nice shade trees.

    • The staff and the couple managing the place are very friendly and it shows that they care about the guest. The campground is clean and well maintained. Seen staff making rounds all day.

    • So much to do for the kiddos and adults. Two pools, hot tub, mini golf, basketball court, horseshoes and playground all included in your price.

    • For the adults they have a nice workout center with lots of equipment.

    • During our stay they had scheduled kid activities and movie night with popcorn.

    • On Friday evening they had a food truck scheduled for dinner.

    • We really liked the “Meet Your Neighbors Happy Hour”, they really wowed us with this event. It ends early enough that you can still have a quiet evening around your camp site. Check their activities list for schedule.

    • Saturday morning they had a Waffle breakfast.

    • Two large fenced dog parks, one located at each in of the campground.

    • Two fishing ponds and dirt walking trail though the woods and around ponds.

    • Two newly remodeled bathhouses and laundry rooms. Staff keeps them clean though out the day, we never had an issue with dirty or un-stocked bathrooms.

Verizon cell phone service was great.

Local Eating Places: Nothing special, Waffle House, Subway, Foxes Pizza and a corner grill all within 10 minutes away.

Attractions or things to do in the area: Averasboro Civil War Battlefield and Museum is only 9.6 miles. There is around 10 historical sites along the route that is connected to the history museum. In Fayetteville about 15-20 minutes there is a lot to do and see.

Four Oaks Lodging & RV Resort

    Non-Descript Roadside RV Parking Lot

If you find yourself passing up or down the I-95 corridor and simply need a patch of land to layover for the night and you’ve got one of those incredibly large mobile homes on wheels, then this non-descript RV location near Four Oaks (look for the cross-roads of where Hwy 301 intersects Hwy 701(exit 90 on I-95) may just be the perfect spot for you. But to be perfectly clear, Four Oaks is more of a layover than a destination - I would really only consider this on the way to somewhere else where I am getting in late and leaving early.

With a couple dozen or so RV parking lanes for your parking pleasure, all of the sites come equipped with the typical 20 / 30 / 50 amp electrical hook-ups, waste disposal and water connections. There’s the standard picnic table, fire ring / BBQ, garbage receptacles, propane refilling stations, covered pavilions and even a community BBQ. The hosts are somewhat grumpy and offer pricing by the night, week and month. Overall, the community is inviting and friendly and there were a few that invited us over to chat with them and share a beer. While there’s not a ton of amenities to pick and choose from, this location does come with BBQ, doggie park, free WiFi & high-speed internet, store and vending machines. Near this RV parking lot, you do have access to Wilmington, Emerald Isle and lovely (but crowded) Myrtle Beach. One of the best perks though is that this campground serves up a nice continental breakfast on the weekends for campground guests, plus there's also free ice and cable for any overnight guests.

Insider’s tip? Here's a few: (1) Take advantage of the close proximity to 30 acre Tucker Lake (conveniently located where Interstate 40 intersects 95), where some decent fishing can be had – we caught (and released) several smallmouth bass, brook trout and black bullheads. Here, you’ll find white sandy beaches, paddle boats, kayaks and canoes for rent, rope swings, 165 foot waterslide for the kids to jump into the water and scattered open pavilions with BBQ’s and grills. There’s also a handful of ill-maintained trails to hike on; (2) If you'd like to hit the links then nearby Johnston County Country Club has some really nice fairways that you'll want to explore; (3) Should you grow weary of trying to conjure up that next meal from the depths of your onboard mini-fridge and want to try out some local fare, then head on over to nearby JP's Country BBQ where they serve up smoked chicken, ribs as well as mac-n-cheese along with some good 'ol Southern cole slaw; (4) Should you find yourself in need of anything there's Ronnie's Country Store just down the road (you wouldn't even need to drive there from Four Oaks), where you can get basic groceries, ice and just about anything for your journey; (5) My favorite site on the property is #8 or #10 as they are furthest from the nearby highway and offer decent shade; and (6) If you come bearing kayak or canoe and are looking for a nice wet piece of paradise to launch into, then check out Holts Lake located just due north of this campground where there's also some pretty decent fishing to be had.

    Happy Camping!

    Spacious Skies Sandy Run

    Phenomenal Stay — very peaceful!

Phenomenal stay at Lazy Acres. Very peaceful, despite being within a mile from Fayetteville Regional Airport.

Great service. Allowed my 38 Trailer to maneuver against traffic and park in the newer section that is Big Rig friendly. Full Hooks Ups, Pool, Peaceful Nature trail (about .5 mile), Laundry and Bath house. Concrete pad for outside area, bricked fire ring, and pretty level sites.

We had our 3 kiddos there and they had a blast at the pool, but the setting is perfect for adults who just want to enjoy a quiet evening.

    We will stay there again.

Laurel Lakes Campground and Music Park

    Needs updating

On a positive note, they were able to get us in and we checked in 7 o’clock in the evening. They were easy-going for coming and going. the owner was very kind.

the cost is $40 a night for full hook up. We have a big rig and when we got there, a long term resident helped back us in. It seems that most of the people there are long-term residence. Unfortunately, the lakes were dried up, so no fishing was available. The bathrooms reeked of smoke and were filthy. The laundry room was available and we did three loads of small amount of laundry. It took two runs through the dryer each. The main building was not open while we were there. I think they are working on things, but as of right now if you need a place to park, they likely have availability.

    Spacious Skies Sandy Run

    Not as described via website.

We were so excited to find a campground for the weekend, close to our son’s wrestling tournament location. Unfortunately the pictures definitely depict a campground way nicer with more amenities than we seen or were available for use to us. Although we picked a pull through site with a concrete patio, picnic table and nice blocked fire pit (on the website), it had no fire pit at all, not even a fire ring. When brought to the attention of the front office we were told “we don’t run the website” & “if you would have let us know we would have found you a fire ring”. We assumed since check in was 3pm the campsites were checked to make sure they were left clean and had everything mentioned. There was tons of other spots open with the blocked fire pit and other with fire rings only. When you pick and pay for a nicer site that’s what you expect to get. We checked in within the last hour they were open due to the tournament and the next morning we left again for the tournament so we really had no time to bring it to their attention until the day we checked out. There was no dog park that we seen, whatsoever and our “nice view by the wood line” was literally a few scattered trees with a view of “keep out” signs and equipment for upkeep behind it. I will mention this is January so everything is dead but I can’t imagine even in summer with the small amount of trees, fully bloomed, it would hide the equipment back there and make for a nice view. I seen no signs for a walking trail nor a catch and release pond. Maybe there was such but I didn’t notice anything on our walk to or from the jump pillow/camp store. The camp store hardly had any supplies.. again this could have been due to the time of year. This campground is riddled with obvious long timers/year round campers, which is cool but at least put them in separate areas from your short timers. Although they have a small book worth of rules/terms to abide by while there,, the quiet hours are not abided by at least not in the area we were in,, it was football games, drinking and pot smoking until well after quiet hours. We’ll search elsewhere next month/time.

    Jordan Dam RV Park

    Great no frills campground.

We stayed at Jordan Dam RV Park for a year while waiting for our house to be built.  The campground is a great, quiet place.  There are not a lot of recreational amenities, but there is pond for fishing.  The site maintenance man, Earl, will direct you into your site, which was a bit tricky in the site we were in.

The RV Park has on-site propane filling, and if you leave your tank on your picnic table, Earl will come and fill it.  This was extremely convenient during the winter months, when we were filling one of our tanks every few days.

If you are looking for someplace close to Jordan Dam boat launch, or are looking for a long term site, this is for you.

    Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages

Friendly and helpful in a time of need

We came here the day we sold our house in Fayettville. Covit19 had just hit so the campground we had reserved fell through and couldn’t get tenants to leave because they were scared. We were in for a surprise, Fayetteville RV resorts welcomed us with open arms and put us under a long term clause so we couldn’t get thrown out if they shut everything down. 600 a month is more than reasonable for the area. The staff is super and they keep the camp ground top notch.

The bathrooms were immaculate. The Landry rooms were great, little expensive but I get it, they are high maintenance with all the visitors. The hiking trail had all kinds of wildlife and a small damn on it. We walked it every day for 2 months and it was great. All the neighbors in the long term area were like family. I loved this place! They will not disappoint!

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Smith Lake Army RV Park features lake access where military families can enjoy shoreline fishing. "Fishing as well - with respective fishing license," notes one visitor about the available activities at this DOD-restricted campground.

Walking trails: The natural surroundings provide multiple hiking options for campers. "The hiking trails are great and easy to get to. Reminds me of Sgt time training Thursday's, lol. Great swampy and peidmont preservation area," shares a reviewer about Smith Lake's trails.

Farm animal interactions: At Double L Farms Campground, visitors can experience a working farm. "Not everyone's idea of a great camping experience involves being completely surrounded by farm animals on an actual working ranch... our daughters thought the farm animals were the best part of our camping trip," mentions one camper about this unique setting.

Miniature golf: Multiple rv sites near Hope Mills, North Carolina feature family-friendly activities on-site. "So much to do for the kiddos and adults. Two pools, hot tub, mini golf, basketball court, horseshoes and playground all included in your price," according to a visitor at Fayetteville RV Resort.

What campers like

Military connections: The proximity to Fort Bragg creates a unique camping atmosphere at certain locations. "We loved the sounds of freedom and enjoyed seeing our service members practicing flight maneuvers. Being retired aviation, we peacefully slept thru it all," explains one reviewer about their stay at Smith Lake Army RV Park.

Clean bathhouse facilities: Many campgrounds maintain exceptional facilities. "The campground restroom was really nice, has air conditioning, heating, and a clean private shower. There is also a washer, a microwave and even wifi in there," notes a visitor at Double L Farms.

Community activities: Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages creates social opportunities for guests. "We really liked the 'Meet Your Neighbors Happy Hour', they really wowed us with this event. It ends early enough that you can still have a quiet evening around your camp site," shares a camper about the resort's organized activities.

Family-owned atmosphere: The personal touch makes a difference at smaller campgrounds. "Lisa and Brian are some of the nicest people I've ever met, Lisa is the epitome of Southern charm and hospitality," explains a reviewer about the owners at Double L Farms.

What you should know

Military installation noise: Campgrounds near Fort Bragg experience regular aircraft activity. "Camp Ground is next to airfield, you might get Helicopter nosies from time to time," notes one Smith Lake visitor, while another mentions "All the sounds of freedom are to be expected and enjoyed."

Farm animal alarm clocks: Rural camping locations come with unique morning routines. "The best amenity though? The free rooster alarm clock you'll hear around 5:30am every morning!" advises a camper at Double L Farms.

Seasonal water activities: Lake access varies throughout the year at some locations. "Staff was very receptive and the facilities were new right on the Smith Lake Beach. Beautiful. You can rent kayaks and paddle boats right on the water front, but the beach is only open on Weekends until Labor Day," shares a visitor about seasonal limitations.

Weather considerations: The climate affects camping conditions. "It rained most of that week, and during the day I was there. They offered alternative sites for my tent, one of which had a protective overhang," explains a tent camper at Double L Farms about how the owners accommodated unexpected weather.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Children have dedicated recreation areas at several campgrounds. "Playgrounds were phenomenal for kids. Bike and Hiking trails all through out the site," mentions a military family about Smith Lake Army RV Park.

Educational farm experiences: Double L Farms Campground offers unique opportunities for children. "In the morning Brian took our two year old on a tour of their amazing farm — horses, cows, ducks, chickens, and all the tractors of our toddlers' dreams," shares a family about their experience.

Weekend activities: Many campgrounds coordinate special events. "During our stay they had scheduled kid activities and movie night with popcorn," explains a camper about Fayetteville RV Resort's family programming.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Experienced RVers recommend specific locations within campgrounds. "I think the best sites are those located furthest back on the property near the field, where you can gaze up at the stars at night with an unobstructed view," suggests a Double L Farms visitor.

Meal planning options: Food trucks provide alternatives to camp cooking at some locations. "On Friday evening they had a food truck scheduled for dinner," notes a reviewer about Fayetteville RV Resort's dining options.

Laundry facilities: Extended-stay campers appreciate practical amenities. "Two large fenced dog parks, one located at each in of the campground... Two newly remodeled bathhouses and laundry rooms. Staff keeps them clean though out the day," shares a visitor at Fayetteville RV Resort.

Propane service: Some campgrounds offer convenient refilling options. "The RV Park has on-site propane filling, and if you leave your tank on your picnic table, Earl will come and fill it. This was extremely convenient during the winter months," explains a long-term resident at Jordan Dam RV Park.
