We camped here and didn't even leave. It has so much to do and see. We camped at RV site 40 and I think it's the best. There's a roaring large creek that flows behind the site and a grassy field full of deer beside it," shares Charli R.
Waterfall hiking: Spacious Skies Bear Den features multiple waterfall trails within walking distance of glamping accommodations. "The campground is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains...so beautiful! Quiet campground with hiking trails, small fishing lake, playgrounds, an arcade room, and camp store. One of the hiking trails leads to a waterfall," explains Emily B.

Privacy between sites: While glamping in Conover, North Carolina, many visitors appreciate campgrounds with good site separation. "Very clean and quite and very close to Charlotte. Nice, moderate hiking trails. Swimming and kayaking. You'll probably see deer but have never seen a bear," reports Fletcher S. about Lake Norman State Park.

It's beautiful and peaceful, at least Monday through Friday. Weekends tend to get filled up fast and often with large groups stretching the limits of a campsite," advises Roberta K.
Reservation requirements: Most glamping accommodations require advance booking, especially during peak seasons from May through October. "I stayed at this location for 10 days. The campground is well kept and clean. The staff and the camp host were very courteous. It was a very quiet stay. The bathhouse was new and well maintained," reports Robert D. about Lake Norman State Park.
Limited connectivity: Cell service varies dramatically across Conover area campgrounds. Some glamping sites offer WiFi for an additional fee. "Starlink was great for connectivity in most sites. Some sites are shaded around the edges and would be tough for starlink," notes Zachary H. about camping connectivity.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: McDowell Nature Preserve offers family-friendly amenities near glamping sites. "This campground is just minutes from Charlotte, but secluded from the city noise. Nice open spaces with shade. No views to speak of but several short trails and nice areas around Lake Wylie. Clean facilities and secured gate with easy access after hours for paid campers," explains Nora C.
Kid-friendly water features: Several glamping options near Conover provide safe swimming areas with gradual entry points for children. "My wife and our four kids have had a great time. Plenty of shade and plenty to do. We fished, rode bikes, hiked and saw plenty of wildlife. Not too close to the neighbors, and the camp host were nice," shares Caleb S. about Lake Norman State Park.
Shorter trail options: Look for campgrounds with loop trails under 1 mile for younger children. "I absolutely LOVED this campground! The campsites are at the base of a mountain with tons of great hiking trails within the park. They even had a food truck most days, so you really don't have to leave the campground unless you want to," recommends Kristen W.
Tips for RVers
Site levelness concerns: Midway Campground Resort provides concrete pads for easier leveling. "Very nice KOA Journey! Extremely well maintained and clean. We stayed here for 4 nights. You will hear the road 24/7 due to proximity of the interstate but its convenient to run chores or pull during your travel. The sites were fairly spacious for this type of place," observes Zachary H.
Hookup availability: Check water and electrical hookup ratings before booking glamping sites around Conover. "The park is lovely, with lots of trails and nature. Beautiful wooded setting. So awesome to have hiking trails that lead right out of the campground. That said, there aren't many sites for RVs and some are not level - hard to get trailer level even with max leveling blocks," warns Kathy L.
Access road conditions: Some luxury camping locations have challenging approach roads. "Based on the previous reviews, this campground has come a long way. The road are freshly paved and the pull through sites are level. Some of the smaller sites appear to not be as well maintained but I'm sure this is on the list of the new owners," notes Ralph C.
