Best RV Parks & Resorts near Colfax, NC

Several RV parks near Colfax provide full hookup options for motorhome travelers. Lake Myers RV Resort in Mocksville offers water, electric, and sewer hookups with both pull-through and back-in sites available from April through November. "Sites were gravel, not all level, but not too bad. Full hook-ups, picnic table and fire pit," noted one camper about a nearby facility. Thousand Trails Forest Lake in Advance maintains year-round operations with big-rig friendly sites and complete hookup infrastructure including 50-amp service. Salem Breeze RV Park in Winston-Salem features spacious pull-through RV pads that accommodate larger motorhomes, though some sites have limited shade and minimal separation between neighboring units.

Access to most RV parks requires navigating local highways, with many facilities located within 30 miles of Colfax. Cellular coverage varies significantly between parks, with stronger signals at facilities closer to Winston-Salem and spottier reception in more rural locations. Dump stations are available at Greystone RV Park and Thousand Trails, while Salem Breeze lacks this amenity but provides direct sewer connections at each site. Pet policies generally allow leashed animals throughout the parks, though some maintain designated pet areas. During peak travel seasons, particularly fall, advance reservations are strongly recommended as many parks reach capacity, especially those with premium pull-through sites that can accommodate larger motorhomes with multiple slideouts.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Clean,affordable, and friendly staff

Took a weekend trip to Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. Very well kept, level spots, pet friendly, big rig friendly with pull through and back-in sites available. Full hook-ups (50 & 30 amp). Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. About $40 a night, no deposit required. With weekly and monthly rates as well. 2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads. We were on lot 20, which is a double space designed for a larger rig, very private with lots of shade.

    Midway Campground Resort

    Family-Friendly

This is a small, family-friendly campground. There is a pond for fishing, a nice pool, a jump pad, playground, arcade, and mini-golf. Plenty for kids to do. The best feature is a haunted trail at Halloween (this gets very busy so be aware if you plan to camp around this time of year). Sites are not necessarily level and big rigs might have a hard time navigating the campground, but folks are friendly and it's a nice place to spend a few days. They do offer long-term sites if you need to stay in the area for a while.

    Mayberry Campground

    Big Rig Friendly

This campground is probably 90% big rigs. It’s a huge campground with 2 lakes, playground, RV store and shelter houses. There is only one shower house with one shower and two toilets on each side. Pet friendly on leash. Close to Mount Airy for those over 60 who want a trip down Memory Lane.

    Ararat River Campground

    Wonderful owners

The new owners have revamped this campground. From what I’ve heard, this wasn’t the place to go prior to the ownership change. The owners here care about everyone at the campground, and keep it nice and clean. They also expect their full time campers to keep their lots and campers in good condition. Both owners are very approachable and respectful. Campground is just a short hike to the Ararat River. Which is why the new name is Ararat River Campground. No tent camping, but 30 amp and 50 amp camper hookups are available with sewage. In the warm months the owner holds church services in the pavilion behind lot 12. Owners offer a flat monthly rate that includes water, electric, wifi, and campground maintenance.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Unlevel & messy

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.

When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would  have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.

Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.

A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.

    Greystone RV Park

    Amazing view of Pilot Mountain

Highly Recommended! We had the opportunity for an extended stay at Greystone in 2024 and had an exceptional experience. This is one of the best campgrounds we've found in all of our RV travels. The owners and camp host are some of the finest people you can meet and you can tell they really care about their customers. If you're looking for a small, quiet campground that checks all of the boxes then this is the one. And the unobstructed view of Pilot Mountain is the icing on the cake. If you can stay a night with Greystone, you will not be disappointed! We stayed in site 10 (end site) and it perfect for our 25 ft travel trailer. The gated campground has ten FHU sites for self contained RVs ( no pop ups or tents allowed), all sites have wifi and open sky for starlink, campground bathhouse and laundry are five stars. Camp host sells firewood for campfires.

    Fairy Stone State Park Campground

CCC Cabin - Couple's Weekend Away!

MY husband and I stayed two nights in a 1 bed efficiency CCC Cabin at Fairy Stone State Park for a short weekend away from the kids. We visited in December so it was pretty cold weather but the cabin was so cozy and comfortable! We loved having the fireplace! The cabins have a bathroom, shower, kitchen with sink, fridge, oven/stove, microwave, toaster, everything you need! They have heating and a/c as well. The cabin was built in the 1930s and is so charming! Loved everytihg about our experience here.

There is no cell service or internet/wifi at the cabins though so come prepared with something to do! We found it to be very relaxing to unplug!

    Mayberry Campground

    Mayberry, one of our favorites

Great family friendly, pet loving campground. Most sites are spacious, all rv sites have full hookups. There are a few tent sites close to office. We have been coming to this campground for 6 years now. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I like a campground that allows you to book a specific site, we're booked for 3 separate trips for 2022. So much to do in surrounding area, especially if you are a fan of Andy Griffith. The town of Mt. Airy has a variety of fast food places as well as many varied restaurants and BBQ's as well. A few of the bigger stores, walmart, lowes, all right in town. Visiting downtown 'mayberry' is a must if you remember the TV show. Book a ride in the police car. Over the years we have found and used veterinarian in town, as well as a great rv store. Might be small, but that store has helped us many times over the years. The Mayberry campground has so much going on, you really don't have to leave camp. Just sit back and relax. Bennie, his daughters and staff will make sure your stay is great. Camp is open year round. We have been there summer, fall and winter. We love this campground.

    Zooland Family Campground

Great spot, well placed with Zoo.

Great stay. Minutes from the zoo. We did a three day weekend here, with a day at the zoo, and the rest of the time playing at the campground.

    3 kids all loved it.

Sites were gravel, not all level, but not too bad. Full hook-ups, picnic table and fire pit. Extremely friendly staff.

What to do

Fishing at small lakes: Cane Creek Campground provides access to a small fishing pond where campers can catch sunfish. "I caught 2 sunfishes in 30 min & I'm no fisherman," reports one visitor to Thousand Trails Forest Lake, which maintains a stocked pond year-round.

Scenic hiking trails: Multiple hiking trails surround the Colfax area with options ranging from beginner to moderate difficulty. The campgrounds near Pilot Mountain offer particularly good access. Secluded farm camping: For a quieter experience away from busier parks, Ivory Clay Farm provides a more isolated setting. "Ivory Clay Farm is now bookable on The Dyrt and offers a nice quiet place to rest just outside of the Winston-Salem & Greensboro Area," notes one reviewer.

Small, well-maintained parks: Greystone RV Park offers a smaller, more controlled camping experience with just 10 sites. "This is one of the best campgrounds we've found in all of our RV travels. The owners and camp host are some of the finest people you can meet and you can tell they really care about their customers," explains a recent visitor.

What you should know

Wide variation in site quality: Site conditions vary significantly between parks. "Sites were level with plenty of room although not much shade in most spaces," notes a camper at Salem Breeze RV Park. Another visitor to Jones Station commented that spaces are "large, and many of them are shaded."

Seasonal factors: Several parks have limited operating seasons or reduced amenities in winter. "Unfortunately a lot of the activity type things (arcade, mini-golf, horseshoes, etc) weren't available because we visited in the off season," reports a Thousand Trails Forest Lake visitor.

There is a play ground and game room for older kids but nothing for the smaller children to do," notes a Lake Myers visitor with children under 5.

Spacing between sites: Family noise levels can be a concern with closely-spaced sites. "The campground is very cramped," notes one visitor to Cane Creek, while Jones Station receives praise for having "sites nicely spaced apart similar to state parks."
