    Moreau Lake State Park Campground

    Beautiful State Park

The road to our campsite was paved and in good shape but there were a few tight spots because of the trees that make it tricky for a big rig (Loop A seems to be the best for big-rigs). Great thing about this park is the hiking trails and lake so you don’t even have to leave to the park to enjoy great outdoor recreation. We found it enjoyable just to hang out in the park rather than trying to find things to do in the area. After hiking and paddling, we loved relaxing out at our campsite with a campfire.

Our campsite was spacious but required some maneuvering to avoid scraping trees with our RV. Campsites are spacious, shady, and had good separation between the neighboring sites which we enjoyed. Generators are allowed but not too many people were using them. The few other campers around that used them were mindful of quiet hours. Since it was still a little cool and our windows were closed and we never heard anyone’s generator. The park was not very crowded when we were there, but we can imagine it could get very busy and noisy in the busy summer season. The beach area seems to be a draw for people so the summer camping season is probably packed. The snack bar and gift/supplies shop at the sandy beach area were not open as we were there late in the season. There is also a nice playground for kids to enjoy.

This is dry camping so there are no hook-ups but there are restrooms and shower. Both were clean but the shower fluctuated between lukewarm, hot, and warm during my shower. Oh well, the shower felt good after our active days. There are two pavilions you can rent which are nice if big groups want to gather. Take note that only two pets are allowed per campsite, so plan accordingly if you are a pet owner.

Access is fairly easy, just off I-87, and there are plenty of signs directing you which way to go. Saratoga Springs and Lake George are nearby if you want to explore. We recommend visiting the National Horse Racing Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, if you have time. We would definitely stay here again.

    Caroga Lake Campground

Good facility, lacks much to do

We were there 4th of July weekend, and the park was fully booked. Very friendly rangers, electricity in bathrooms, hot showers, and a nice dishwashing and recycling center.

The campsite connects to the beach area and there is boat rental, but no pets allowed in the beach area.

For us, a drawback was a lack of any hikes connecting to the campsite.

    Moreau Lake State Park Campground

    Small quiet lake

Nice stopover or basecamp for this area. We used to go here when my brother was living in Albany. Stop by Saratoga Springs on your way north! It’s a small park but there is a lot to enjoy on site and even more nearby. Very wooded. Hiking trails become nice XC skiing trails. Nice sandy beach with lifeguard hours. Facilities are relatively modern but still basic, nice and clean. Most sites aren’t right along the lake but it’s still so close.

    Moreau Lake State Park Campground

Awesome Facilities, LOTS of Downstate Tourists

Moreau Lake has (in my opinion) superb facilities as far as state run campsites go. The beach is nice, large picnic facilities, and the campgrounds are well maintained with nice bathroom/shower buildings. The park has a large number of hiking trails for every level of outdoorsman and the staff is friendly and helpful. The main issue is the fact that due to it's proximity to I-87 and being conveniently located 20 minutes from both Lake George and Saratoga Springs the park draws large crowds of downstate tourists, not itself a wholey bad thing but during the summer season I wouldnt go here expecting to have the park to yourself,.

    Lake George Riverview Campground

    Great campsite!

We pulled in in the middle of memorial day weekend. The place was sold out. Staff was super friendly and had us check in on no time. The campground loses a start only because when it's at full capacity, it is very cramped. Some sites are much bigger than others and have more space though. The Schroon River run right through the campgrounds and you can rent kayaks and canoes or bring your own to go a ride. There is a little beach and just launch on site. The bathrooms are very nice and all individual with a toilet and shower in one. Another downside of you're more full-time is there is no laundry on site. You're 4 miles away from Lake George's downtown which is a great area. Plenty of nearby hikes. Each campsite had a BBQ-like fire pit. Campground has a very nice basketball court, pool and playground. Dog friendly and even we were there it looks like their looking to expand and make more sites. Only one cabin available at the moment.

    Moose Hillock Camping Resorts

    Nothing special

The good: large, spacious, private sites that are all fairly level and all about the same size. Beautiful pool with 2 water slides, arcade, and cafe that wasn’t opened during the week but will be starting July 1. Clean facilities. Store was fairly well stocked with things you might’ve forgot to pack. Staff was nice.
The not so good: lots of rules and charges for every little thing, our walkie talkies picked up on staff conversations and we heard they wanted to charge a family a guest fee for a delivery driver if he was on site more than 15 minutes, Showers cost money at $0.25 per 4 minutes, no wifi at all and poor cell reception, pool is NOT heated as they state all over their website, trash is not picked up, no activities or anything to do other than swim. Far from downtown Lake George and no trolley service, charges for early arrival regardless of whether sites is available or not and you can’t sit in their parking arrival area and wait. I would not choose this campground again. It wasn’t horrible. There is so much more they could offer for their resort prices that they charge. Drove through Lake George RV resort on Rt. 149 and I think I’d choose that campground next time. Check out the boats you ride on Lake George! The Adirondack is dog friendly! Get the coupon at the arcade for $3 off the $25 cost. Frontier Town gift shop on Rt 9 with the big teepee out front had great selection of stuff for good prices. Northway Brewing was fun with good beer!

    Caroga Lake Campground

    Overall, nice.

We spent a relatively quiet long weekend here on loop F 97, which is a bit removed from the main campground. It was a bit noisy on Saturday night but nothing disturbing.  This site also is bordered by a small stream so expect mosquitoes and the occasional visit from wildlife (we had raccoons at our site each night, so kept food in the car). Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table.

There is a store just outside the entrance that sells ice, wood, groceries.  There are quite a few roadside firewood sellers that are reasonably priced.  The fire pit does not have a narrow grilling grate so bringing something to ensure your food won't fall through the widely spaced bars is helpful.

As I said, our site was out of the main population, but it was a bit of a hike to the restroom which is something to keep in mind if you've really got to get to a bathroom first thing in the morning.

There is a Walmart about 10 miles away in Gloverville, so keep this in mind if you are planning on picking up essentials when you arrive.

There are no sites with electric.

    Woodford State Park Campground

    Beautiful for fall foliage

This campground was great. Quiet, great fire pits, clean bathrooms, firewood and starter for sale plus access to day use area. The lake next to the campground is beautiful and has plenty of picnic tables and grills for use. Close to hiking trails and the city of Bennington.

Guide to Saratoga Springs

Saratoga Springs campgrounds extend throughout the southeastern Adirondack foothills at elevations ranging from 300-1,500 feet. The area receives approximately 40 inches of annual precipitation with camping season typically running May through mid-October. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing while summer camping conditions average 75-85°F during peak season, with cooler evenings around 55-65°F.

What to do

Hiking trails with varying difficulty: At Moreau Lake State Park Campground, campers can access over 20 miles of trails. "The park has a large number of hiking trails for every level of outdoorsman and the staff is friendly and helpful," notes Robert L. The park serves as a convenient basecamp for both day hiking and overnight trips.

Biking paths to nearby towns: King Phillip's Campground provides direct access to paved cycling infrastructure. "We road the bike path each day to and from Lake George. It was downhill on the way there and a little bit of an uphill battle on the way back but totally worth it! Bring your bikes!!" suggests Stephanie H. The path extends approximately 9 miles one-way to Lake George.

Paddling opportunities: Campers at Lake George Riverview Campground enjoy direct water access. "My kids really enjoyed fishing & floating in the river," reports Happy Camper L. The Schroon River offers relatively calm waters suitable for beginners, with equipment rentals available on-site for those without their own watercraft.

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Moose Hillock Camping Resorts stands out for site size and separation. "The sites at this park are huge. You could have parked three RVs in our site. Added bonus is that there is nice separation between sites with trees and shrubs that block out your neighbors and provide lots of privacy," shares Nancy W. Most sites include custom fire pits and ample room for multiple tents or large RVs.

Clean, individual bathrooms: Many campers appreciate the private facilities at Lake George Riverview Campground. "The private bathrooms were an unexpected surprise. Each bathroom was large with toilet, sink and shower! With many campers in RVs the bathroom were never busy," writes Jim B. These individual units provide more privacy than traditional campground bathroom facilities.

Easy access to attractions: The location of Lake George RV Park receives consistent praise. "Stayed in May and August 2018. Absolutely beautiful and CLEAN campground... There is also another trolly to the village of Lake George, Great Escape and the outlet center," explains April L. Most major attractions are within a 5-20 minute drive from established campgrounds in the region.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Campgrounds near Saratoga Springs operate on limited schedules. "We had a site on the river and it was beautiful! The park does seem to be under some construction, they are building a new Pool Pavillion," mentions Happy Camper L. about Lake George Riverview Campground. Most facilities open in early May and close by mid-October, with limited services during shoulder seasons.

Road noise at some locations: Lake George Campsites sits near major transportation corridors. "The Northway was directly to the west, maybe 1000 ft through the woods, extremely loud traffic noise," warns Cat R. Traffic sounds can be particularly noticeable at night, especially for tent campers.

Varying site quality within campgrounds: Site assignments matter significantly. "Campsites in the park are pretty inconsistent – meaning some are long and wide with good privacy but others are not. With over 400 campsites there are a lot to chose from and hard to know which is best for you unless you have been there before," advises Nancy W. about Lake George Escape Campground. Requesting specific site areas based on maps can improve your experience.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly amenities: Alpine Lake RV Resort welcomes pets with suitable facilities. "We had a nice spot on the lake and were able to fish from our spot," notes Stacie. Many campgrounds permit dogs but limit them to two per site, so verify pet policies before booking.

Playground access: Ledgeview Village RV Park offers family-friendly recreation options. "Has a playground and pool. Kids enjoyed the area," mentions Lauren. Most family-oriented campgrounds in the region feature playground equipment suitable for children ages 5-12.

Swimming options beyond lakes: Pool facilities vary significantly between properties. "The beach is nice, large picnic facilities, and the campgrounds are well maintained with nice bathroom/shower buildings," states Robert L. about Moreau Lake State Park Campground. Public beaches typically have lifeguards from late June through Labor Day, while pool hours extend into evening at most private campgrounds.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Full-service sites can be limited during peak season. "We had full hookups. The site pad was packed gravel and slightly unlevel. We have a 27 foot camper and was slightly difficult to maneuver into the site. If your camper sits low, chances are it will hit the road on some of the inclines," cautions Cat R. about King Phillip's Campground. Book well in advance for sites with sewer, water, and 50-amp electrical service.

Navigation challenges: Several properties have complex internal road networks. "Roads in the park are confusing because none are parallel or perpendicular so we had to go slow just to make sure we didn't miss a turn in the RV. Luckily, the receptionist in the office highlighted the route we needed to take to get to our site which was very helpful," explains Nancy W. about Lake George Escape Campground. Arrive during daylight hours when possible for easier setup.

Seasonal rental options: For those considering glamping near Saratoga Springs, New York without their own equipment, several parks offer alternatives to traditional camping. "We've stayed here three times now and it never disappoints! Well maintained from the roads now to the gardens. They pay attention to every detail," raves Christine L. about Lake George RV Park, which offers premium rental accommodations. Advance booking is essential for these specialty units, particularly during summer weekends.
