Best RV Parks & Resorts near Rockville Centre, NY

Several RV parks operate within 30 miles of Rockville Centre, offering varying levels of amenities and access. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides 90 sites with electric hookups, water, and a dump station, though no sewer connections at individual sites. Nickerson Beach Park Campground in Lido Beach accommodates both large rigs and standard RVs with full hookup sites available from April through November. Closer to Rockville Centre, Skyline RV Camp offers two locations—a waterfront option with 40 sites and a non-waterfront section with 18 sites, both featuring 30/50-amp electrical connections but no water hookups or dump stations. "Sites had zero privacy and were all pull through. There was water, electric and sewer hookups at each site, but this was an expensive place to 'camp'."

Navigation to these parks requires careful planning, particularly for larger motorhomes. The parkways throughout Long Island have height restrictions that prohibit RVs, forcing drivers to take alternate routes that can add significant travel time. One visitor noted: "I drove down from Connecticut to Long Island to find the main routes to the campsite all went through New York's parkways. There are height restrictions on the parkways so RVs cannot travel on them without a high risk of crashing into the bridges." Most parks require reservations, especially during summer months when beach access is a primary draw. While Liberty Harbor offers proximity to Manhattan with ferry access, Nickerson Beach and Heckscher State Park provide more traditional camping experiences with beach access. Pet policies vary significantly between parks, with some welcoming pets and others prohibiting them entirely.

    Blydenburgh County Park

    Big Rig Camping in Blydenburgh

We have a 42 ft 5th wheel toy hauler. A few Big Rig spots are available, but this is a Suffock Co Campground that is not well maintained. 2 miles of the Road have many areas of missing blacktop making a very rough ride with low branches. The dump station is basically not accessible to a big rig. Most of the longer sites were very difficult to level.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

    large wooded sites

This campground has all pull-through sites. Nicely wooded with water and electric. Be sure to bring extra hose because the water spigot is a distance from the electric. sites are level and well maintained. They also allowed us to put the car tent on the same site as a friend's camper. There's a nice lake to kayak or paddle boat on. each site has a fire pit, picnic table and garbage can

    Heckscher State Park Campground

    Great Late Fall Weekend Cabin

This was a last-minute booking for us and we were delighted with the beachside cottage, with enough amenities that mom and dad did not worry we had their cutie with us for "camping". She's too little for backpacking into the woods but finally got to stay overnight and help with the campfire!

    Pros

    • Modern facility with full kitchen accessories (coffee maker, plates, wine opener, can opener, silverware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, toaster, oven), sponge/dish liquid. Microwave.1
    • Clean interior, clean campground
    • modern cottage with propane fireplace, WiFi access, bathroom with shower, large screened in porch with bar height table and 4 chairs, deck with chaise lounges, two bedrooms (1 with 2 twin beds, 1 with full), coach, chairs, plenty of clean storage places and hooks. You have everything but bedding, food, drinks, and personal items.
    • cottages far enough away from each other
    • fire ring with Adirondack chairs
    • dumpster and recycling within walking distance
    • lots of bone dry firewood around for campfire
    • walkable beach
    • beautiful
    • wildlife: deer, rabbits, turtles

    Cons

    • a bit pricey
    • playground is driving distance not walking

Beaver Pond Campground — Harriman State Park

    Quiet, off-season, mid-week retreat

We stayed here on a Thursday night in September prior to taking off backpacking. The campground was clean and quiet. RV hook-ups, tent platforms, and rustic tent sites were available. Our rustic tent site had a few good options for pitching a tent, as well as picnic table and fire ring.

Ranger said that during summer weekends the grounds fill up and can be quite noisy, but mid-week during the off-season it was great. Expect to purchase firewood, although scrounging for kindling was possible. Facilities were clean and what you'd expect from a campground.

    Would definitely return!!

    Pine Cone Resort

DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER STAYING HERE

If I could review this with a negative star, I would... We spoke to personnel when we made reservations, and were promised a pull through, full hook up that would fit my truck and 34' trailer. Far from that, we could not open our awnings, and site was far from level. Let alone we can not pull through fully. Worst site we have ever been on. Dirty, holes in road, mud everywhere, tree limbs falling on my new truck and new trailer. Garbage in fire pit that they would not clean and dog poop on our site. To make it worse I am disabled with lung disease, and I had truck squeezed on our site, hanging over on empty site next door. Owner called threatening to have me arrested, charge me for 2nd site and demanded we leave campground immediately. What a joke! I would never ever stay here again. BTW, WiFi and cable don't work at all. $62.50 a night is ridiculous.

    Wildwood State Park Campground

    Camper side review

Stayed here for two nights with my popup and was surrounded by large motor homes/RVs. sites had zero privacy and were all pull through. There was water, electric and sewer hookups at each site, but this was an expensive place to ‘camp’. Bathrooms and showers were not really clean, which was surprising because most people used their personal bathroom/shower in their RV. It is close to the beach, but a very small and rocky beach. Overall, I don’t think this was the best place for us.

Close to the beach and clean facility

This is a popular site in the peak season. The beach is in a walking distance. You can swim or fish there. This camp site has a relatively new and clean facility.

There are many farms near by where you can get fresh veggies and fruits.

Guide to Rockville Centre

Camping near Rockville Centre offers a mix of coastal and inland experiences within Nassau County and neighboring areas. The terrain consists mainly of flat to gently rolling coastal plains, with elevations rarely exceeding 200 feet above sea level. Most campgrounds in the region are operational from April through November, with July and August temperatures averaging 75-85°F during the day and 65-70°F at night.

What to do

Beach access and swimming: Nickerson Beach Park Campground features direct beach access where campers can enjoy Atlantic Ocean swimming with lifeguard protection during summer months. "Right on the beach! Great spot to camp at if the waves are pumping at Lido Beach on Long Island," notes Michael K.

Hiking trails: Heckscher State Park Campground offers several short hiking trails with the longest being 2.5 miles. A camper mentions, "There are several short hiking trails that are fairly well-marked but can be a bit confusing at times. Some sections of the trails were muddy due to swamps and bogs but passable."

Water recreation: Turkey Swamp Park provides lake activities including fishing, kayaking and canoeing. According to Dan W., "Boat rental rates are acceptable and there are four different styles to choose from. Plenty to do over a 2 night stay. Archery, boating, fishing, and hiking."

City exploration: Manhattan access is available from Liberty Harbor RV Park via ferry and train connections. Keith and Tia S. share, "This is all about location. The closest RV park to NYC. Pick one of the larger end row sites to get a little extra elbow room. Two blocks away from NJ Path train into Manhattan or take the ferry to Wall Street!"

What campers like

Spacious campsites: Turkey Swamp Park features generously sized wooded sites that provide privacy. Jean T. explains, "This campground has all pull-through sites. Nicely wooded with water and electric. Be sure to bring extra hose because the water spigot is a distance from the electric. Sites are level and well maintained."

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain their restrooms and shower facilities regularly. At Beaver Pond Campground, campers appreciate the public amenities. "Full bathrooms and slop sinks throughout the campsite. The campsites are a bit close to one another but if you have a big group you can book several sites near each other," notes Kelvin.

Proximity to beaches: Coastal locations are a major draw for campers in the region. At Nickerson Beach Park Campground, "They recently installed a path that goes all the way down to the beach area so you don't have to walk on the sand for so long. There is also fantastic food in the area as well," says Ethan K.

Waterfront views: Some sites offer premium views of the water and city skyline. One camper at Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites shares, "We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds near Rockville Centre require advance bookings, especially during summer months. Turkey Swamp Park sites fill quickly, and a camper notes, "The campground was only about 20% occupied when we were there at the end of April, so our stay was a quiet one."

Wildlife awareness: Several campgrounds have active wildlife populations including ticks and bears. At Battle Row Campground, campers report, "There are tons of feral cats wandering and sometimes even begging for food." Another camper at Turkey Swamp Park warns, "By the 2nd day I had 3 ticks on me. My dog had one and by the end my husband had 2."

Fire pit regulations: Policies on fires vary significantly between parks. At Heckscher State Park, "There are no fire pits on any of the sites, although I learned afterwards that they do allow you to bring your own metal fire pit as long as it is elevated off the ground."

Site selection strategy: At Liberty Harbor RV Park, proximity to other campers is a consideration. Joe R. advises, "Sites kind of level and very close. Power and water, and convenient dump station if staying and needing to dump. Having a view of Lady Liberty out your window is priceless."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds include dedicated play areas for children. Thorin J. notes about Heckscher State Park Campground, "The restroom building is in the middle of the campground and was clean and had plenty of stalls. Potable water is available at regular intervals, about at the corners of each group of four campsites."

Beach proximity planning: Families should consider distances between campsites and beaches. At Nickerson Beach Park Campground, one reviewer explains, "Campsite allows dogs, however, the beach does not. They have a small dog run on the other side of the large beach parking lot. Very clean, friendly employees."

Weather considerations: Summer camping near Rockville Centre often means high humidity and temperatures. A camper at Turkey Swamp Park reports, "We went camping with our 2- and 3-year-old kids. We were worried about bugs, but we didn't even use mosquito repellent and didn't get a single bite! The campground was super clean too."

Tips from RVers

Road restrictions: RV drivers must navigate parkway limitations when traveling to Long Island rv parks. Skyline RV Camp has specific access challenges, with John T. reporting, "Skyline RV Camp has moved to: 50 Noble St, Brooklyn, NY 11222. The original property location at 2 Oak St was sold and is now private property. There no longer is a waterfront view of the NYC skyline when camping at Skyline RV."

Hookup considerations: Most rv parks near Rockville Centre, New York offer varied hookup options. Jeffrey from NWS Earle RV Park advises, "Small campground W/ 8 spaces in the main area and 7 in an adjacent area. All spaces are level concrete With fill hookups and attached concrete patio. Power is at the far back & sewage is in the middle (left to right). A longer camper will be parked over the sewage connection."

Site leveling needs: Many campsites require minimal leveling. Jessica D. from Military Park NJ notes, "Sites are level and well maintained. They also allowed us to put the car tent on the same site as a friend's camper. There's a nice lake to kayak or paddle boat on. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table and garbage can."
