Fillmore Glen State Park Campground similarly features cabin rentals with electricity, allowing guests comfortable overnight options. Cabins typically include basic furniture and beds but minimal kitchen facilities. "The cabins are nice, new and clean. You might find a wait because they don't have a lot of them. The lakes and beach are beautiful and there's a nice wide trail that would be good for handicapped people as well," noted a visitor about Green Lakes.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Oneida Shores County Park maintains cabin rentals with water and electric hookups, while Verona Beach State Park Campground provides cabin accommodations that are reservable through the New York State Parks system. Lebanon Reservoir Campground stocks firewood for purchase and maintains a small market for basic provisions, while other locations may require bringing all supplies. Bath facilities are generally communal rather than in-cabin, with most parks maintaining shower buildings within walking distance of cabin areas. Gilbert Lake State Park Campground

    Fantastic Cabin Getaway

Spacious cabin was clean and comfortable. Two bedrooms, one with bunk beds and another with a full. There were dressers in each room. Also in the main room with a fireplace, futon, and table with benches. Screened-in porch that had a toilet area. Full kitchen with fridge, oven and sink.

Two entrances, one to the kitchen and the other to the porch. Outside was a fire ring.

An easy hike to a nearby lake was very pretty. Lots of wildlife, coyotes howling in the distance at night and plenty of deer. Perfect time of year to go, barely any mosquitoes and it was warm during the day but cool at night to enjoy a roaring fire inside.

Large park with nice playground and picnic area for day use.

We had better than average cell phone service near/in the cabin with AT&T.

    Chenango Valley State Park Campground

    Family Oriented

Campsites are in the woods with picnic tables and fire ring, plenty of shade and a good amount of space between camps. They have so many birds, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and insects that it was a veritable wonderland Playground and shallow swimming area for children with life guards and a sandy beach and new bath house. They have fishing and boat rentals, however the lake is pretty small and a lot of trees still in the water since a flood. There are nice trails for hiking that go all the way around the lake. I had my 5 year old grandson with me and he loved it but I did have to cut it short when we got rained out.

Shady Pines Camp at CBG Farm - CLOSED

    Rustic and beautiful

After meeting up with the owner we went down to the parking area. A dirt trail and park on the side in the grass. You have to walk in about 2 minutes on a trail. The owner has a golf cart with a small wagon and transported our stuff to the campsite and back when we left…he was really nice and very helpful.the trail opened to open grassy areas with surrounding trees where we pitched our tent…a small table and fire ring w grate provided. Also firewood.you get water back up at the barn but the owner was nice and brought us a 5 gal. Jug. Pond stocked with fish…catch and release. We caught some nice bass and bullhead…kids had a blast. Past the pond is the cabin with sitting spots and an open cement fire stove and oven also a fire pit. Theres an outhouse behind the cabin w a seat over a bucket w chemicals…papertowels tp hand sanitizer and disenfectant wipes nicely provided. We did have cellphone signals. Overall a really nice spot to relax and commune w nature.

    Pinecreek Campground

Beautiful Park, beautiful area could be so much more with a little effort!

Pinecreek is a beautiful park in a great area 10 minutes from downtown Ithica New York and Lake Cayuga. The area has everything you could possibly want or need. Fabulous State Parks with spectacular waterfalls, a farmers market right on the lake front, Cornell University and so much more. That being said it may be the reason the campground doesn't offer any planned activities. They do have a swimming pool and what appears to be a large clubhouse/meeting area that is not or was not used while we were there, nor were any activities publicized. They do have a small arcade but it did not stay open past 8 pm and did not appear to be air-conditioned.

Our campsite was a full hookup with a large grassy area for setting up our outside chairs and picnic table. Although we enjoyed our stay we felt it was a bit overpriced for not having much to offer. They also have a very long list of rules & while they do allow pets there is a list of breed restrictions you need to be aware of before booking a reservation. They also charge for electricity on any stays one week or longer which we had not encountered previously at campgrounds where we have stayed.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but not sure we would stay again.

Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

Campground with easy access to swimming, hiking, and waterfalls!

We spent two nights camping at Robert H. Treman State Park. The campground has an area with wooded sites, an area with sites in a large field (with hookups for RVs), and an area for the cabins (which looked very cool). All sites have fire rings and a picnic table. There are also flush toilets and free showers; these facilities were well-maintained and clean. We stayed in site 35 which is a wooded site located at the end of a loop. It was one of the larger, more private sites; reserve it if it is available.

The park contains nine miles of hiking trails. We hiked the Gorge Trail (2.12 miles) with a return on the Rim Trail (2.09 miles) to create a loop from the campground. The hike took us alongside the gorge of Enfield Glen and past twelve waterfalls. The route was a lot of up and down with terrain through wooded areas as well as on rocks next to the water. However, the stunning views and its variety did not disappoint. Unfortunately the swimming area was closed due to flooding but it would be a perfect ending to this hike on a warm summer day.

Overall, this park was great. The size was just right with on-site access to hiking and swimming. The nearby amenities of downtown Ithaca was a bonus!

    Green Lakes State Park Campground

Green Lakes is a model state park

This is a great example of what a state park should be. It not only preserves a place of unique biological diversity and geologic interest, it is also well set up and well maintained to maximize low impact outdoor recreation and environmental education. A new state of the art regional environmental education center is being built now that will open in spring, as well as new handicapped access kayaking docks that complement Accessible trails and campsites throughout the park. This is a great destination for families, handicapped campers, and natural history enthusiasts. There are several campgrounds, one is large and open and meant for large RVs, others are drive-in forested tent sites or trailer sites with hookups, and several walkin sites. There is also a colony of rustic camper cabins. The campgrounds have brand new restroom facilities and playgrounds, and the main lake has a new beach house. The lake is a fascinating meromictic lake with clear calcium-rich waters that are not only pristine and beautiful to look at, but also great for swimming and snorkeling as the waters are crystal clear and very deep. There are hiking trails, paved bike trails, a nature preserve for bird watching at Round Lake, a golf course, and great kayaking or canoeing. It is also located right next door to the Erie Canal State Park for those who want to hike or bike the historic Erie Canal. Though you might expect a park like this to be in a remote location, it is actually just a short distance east of the suburbs of the Syracuse metro area, so it is an easy park to get to, plus staying there also provides easy access to stores for supplies, or access to local cultural activities or restaurants for those who want that. One of my favorite state parks in New York!

Guide to Fabius

Cabin accommodations near Fabius, New York provide easy access to the Finger Lakes region at elevations ranging from 1,000-1,300 feet. Most cabin rental areas sit within state parks featuring glacial terrain, with summer temperatures averaging 75-80°F during peak camping months. Rustic cabin facilities typically require visitors to bring their own bedding and cooking equipment while offering proximity to swimming areas and hiking trails.

What to do

Swimming in waterfall pools: Buttermilk Falls State Park has a natural swimming area below the cascades, giving visitors a refreshing experience. "The falls are amazing—pretty busy so I would recommend going early or later near dusk if you want a more solitary experience," notes Sara S., who appreciated the opportunity to "listen to the water at night as well."

Gorge hiking: Robert H. Treman State Park offers multiple trails along its gorge with varying difficulties. "There are endless waterfalls, hiking trails, fishing holes and bird watching opportunities," explains Carlyne F., highlighting the diversity of terrain. The trail system connects to create loops with scenic water views.

Kayaking on Oneida Lake: Oneida Shores County Park provides lake access where cabin renters can spend time on the water. "Nice wooded setting on the lake," observes Shawn, whose review emphasizes the paved campground and reasonable pricing. Boat rentals are available seasonally for visitors without their own watercraft.

What campers like

Natural swimming spots: Taughannock Falls State Park maintains a swimming area that extends to 12 feet deep with a dock for jumping. "The swimming area goes to 12 feet deep and has a dock to jump off of," Barbara S. comments, noting that the area is "very walkable to the swimming area."

Playground facilities: Fillmore Glen State Park provides play areas that complement its cabin accommodations. "Bathrooms are very clean and close to all campsites. Kids loved the park and swimming in the waterfall beach," reports Charyssa G., highlighting the family-friendly atmosphere maintained at this location.

Proximity to wineries: The cabins serve as convenient base camps for exploring regional attractions. "Location in the Finger Lakes region makes it a good base camp for winery tours," points out Chris D. about Buttermilk Falls State Park, highlighting how cabin accommodations provide comfortable access to the Finger Lakes wine country.

What you should know

Limited privacy: Many cabin and camping areas feature open layouts with minimal separation. "The sites in the middle section of the campground don't really have designated boundaries, while those around the edges are more traditionally divided. There is literally no privacy between any of the sites," reports Shari G. about Fillmore Glen State Park.

Shower locations: Several parks position shower facilities at central locations rather than near individual cabins. "Showers could be closer and seem more accommodating to day users," notes Kristie M. about Oneida Shores, indicating the need to plan accordingly when staying overnight.

Bathroom maintenance varies: Facility upkeep differs significantly between parks. "As clean as the bathrooms are, the showers still suck. I'll never understand why parks use the misting shower heads," reports Chelsea B. about Green Lakes State Park, suggesting bringing shower shoes or considering alternative arrangements.

Tips for camping with families

Natural water features: Green Lakes State Park offers unique swimming opportunities with its distinctive water color. "This park is beautiful and very clean. The water is Crystal clear and very blue, you will think you are in the Caribbean Islands," remarks Kenneth S., highlighting the visual appeal for children.

Playground locations: Verona Beach State Park recently improved its recreation areas. "The kids love to hang out at the splash pad and the state recently revamped some of the playgrounds," Joe D. explains, noting the park's proximity to Utica and Rome for additional family activities.

Swimming depth considerations: Each park maintains different water access points with varying depths. "The beach area is wide and shallow in most areas. In close proximity to the store and snack shop (ICE CREAM)," Sheri S. describes about Green Lakes, making it suitable for families with younger children.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Bowman Lake State Park requires preparation for uneven terrain. "It was gravel and not super level, but we made it work," notes Oleńka S., who adds that "there was a potable water spigot a few sites over and a bathroom with showers a short walk away."

Hookup positioning: Taughannock Falls State Park requires planning for electrical connections. "Check out which side the hookups are on. Some not situated on the right side so you'll need extra long cords," advises Beth, who stayed in a hybrid camper at the park.

Tree coverage considerations: For those seeking shade while in cabins or RVs, certain sites offer better protection. "We had a lot of tree cover so we didn't even need our air conditioning on during an 85 degree day," explains Oleńka S. about Bowman Lake, which proves advantageous during summer months when temperatures peak.
