Camping cabins near Earlville, New York offer rustic to modern lodging options throughout the region. Situated at approximately 1,200 feet elevation in central New York's rolling hills, this area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures typically ranging from 60-80°F. Winter cabin rentals require additional planning as many facilities close between mid-October and mid-May.
What to do
Fishing opportunities: Bowman Lake State Park Campground provides access to a regularly stocked fishing lake. "We loved that the rangers told us that the lake was regularly stocked with trout and other game fish. For the boaters there is an ample ramp to launch as well as boat rentals on the marina," notes Brian O.
Baseball activities: Cooperstown Beaver Valley Campground maintains baseball fields on the property for team use. "There is a large baseball field that could be rented and used... There are 2 pools, one for the little children and a larger one older people. There is a large pond for fishing and paddling around in," according to Louise R.
Hiking trails: Chenango Valley State Park offers diverse trail systems around its lakes. "There are miles of trails to hike and roads to bike," Fred C. explains. Another visitor adds, "There are nice trails for hiking that go all the way around the lake. I had my 5 year old grandson with me and he loved it."
What campers like
Private wooded sites: Bowman Lake State Park Campground receives praise for its secluded setting. "This campsite was beautiful. It was very secluded and in the woods, right next to the lake as well. I enjoyed how spread out this campground is compared to most and the location is beautiful," shares Katarina M.
Swimming areas: Chenango Valley State Park Campground features designated swimming beaches with staff supervision. "The beach area is well staffed and clean. Changing areas are available as well as a splash pad for the little kids," notes Fred C. Another visitor mentions, "You can rent kayaks and paddle boards and the park is well maintained and monitored by park police, very safe!"
Water recreation: Green Lakes State Park Campground provides various water activities. "This park is beautiful and very clean. The water is Crystal clear and very blue, you will think you are in the Caribbean Islands. We visit this park very frequently to rent a boat or to hike the trails," Kenneth S. writes.
What you should know
Variable site quality: Site conditions vary significantly between parks and within individual campgrounds. "Campground is a maze of campsites through densely wooded forests so it's pretty private and shady even though it's full no matter what season we visited," notes Kim B. about Bowman Lake.
Off-grid options: Composting toilets with no electricity or running water are available at some locations. Off Grid Sunset View Sleeping Cabin offers a true wilderness experience with basic amenities.
Seasonal closures: Most state park facilities operate from mid-May through early October. Glimmerglass State Park Campground and other nearby parks typically list their season as "May 13 to October 9," requiring advance planning for those seeking cabins during peak summer months.
Tips for camping with families
Splash pad features: Verona Beach State Park Campground offers water play areas designed for younger children. "The kids love to hang out at the splash pad and the state recently revamped some of the playgrounds," Joe D. reports.
Cabin size selection: Larger cabins accommodate multiple families or team gatherings. "Cooperstown Beaver Valley has camper and tent sites, and even cabins that fit 2-20 plus people," explains Louise R.
Beach swimming: Green Lakes State Park Campground provides family-friendly swimming. "Swimming is available at the large beach. You can rent a kayak and enjoy the beautiful lake. There are miles of trails to explore. There is a camp store, laundry room, recreation room, playgrounds and much more," Cindy H. mentions.
Tips from RVers
Limited hookup locations: Lake Chalet Motel and Campground offers full-service sites, but availability may be limited. "This campground is located right on the edge of the road but is a nice well maintained little place. Most sites are rented already as seasonal so getting a site can be tough," Rob L. notes.
Site selection strategy: Chenango Valley offers various camping loops with different amenities. "Parking pads in the electric loops (30 amps and 50 amps) have a good amount of gravel. We usually prefer sites on the outer part of a loop, and this was no exception. The sites have more trees," according to Mary S.
Leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require additional equipment for RV leveling. "We booked this as our first real camping trip with our new trailer, can't recommend that for everyone lol, but we had a lovely time. We had a back in site with a fire pit, picnic table, and no hook ups. It was gravel and not super level, but we made it work," writes Oleńka S. about Bowman Lake.
